WATCH: Kay Burley Skewers Hodge the Dodge

Margaret Hodge got the full Kay Burley treatment this afternoon. After a day of grandstanding at her committee, she was left spluttering about her 0.01% tax bill. Hodge had the nerve to bring up the newspapers who retracted their own stories about Hodge and tax. She has never asked for a retraction from Guido for the stories that appeared on this blog, nor has she answered our questions about her family’s use of trusts…

Read Guido’s stories and unanswered questions here.

  1. 1
    Darling Hodge says:

The BBC love her. She was their profile on 4 this week. Having said that they profiled Guido a few years ago.

  2. 2
    Itchy Scrote says:

I’d quite like to skewer Kay Burley.

Not Hodge though. Oh, no, no, no.

  3. 3
    JabbaTheCat says:

Five Pinocchios for Hodge the Dodge…

  4. 4
Axe The Telly Tax & Religion & Kill All Ecoloons says:

Burley couldn’t skewer a lamb joint.

  5. 5
    Breaking nooze says:

David Beckham has announced he will be retiring at the end of this season. More to follow

  6. 6
    tanzanite aka nell says:

When any politician , especially margarethodge says ‘ please believe me what I’m saying is the truth’ you can be absolutely positively certain it’s most likely a lie .

As in her recent statement about the value of her £multimillion shares being ‘a little little little amount’ !!!

  7. 7
    Good thinking says:

    Time Hodge proved her claim..

  8. 8
    tanzanite aka nell says:

Funnier than labour’s hodge though is poor old militwit.

This morning some tory mp called him ‘ a wishy washy wally’

Now labour’s very own journalist danhodges says ‘ he has the political nous of a whelk’ !!

  9. 9
    Dodgy Hodgey says:

Kay makes a very valid point. If Hodge is so certain that they pay every penny of tax due (as do google by the way) how come she does not know how much profit and tax passes through their books. She’s either certain or she’s not certain.

  10. 10
  11. 11
And other hand we also have the Islington child abuse cover up says:

Any thruth in the Rumour that Hodge the Dodge is to be the new presenter of ‘Grandstand’ ?

  12. 12
    this hallowed ground says:

of course you could say that the brightest and most able packed their bags and settled the Americas and the nere do wells and criminals were shipped off to Australia which just left the mediocre people running the show.

  13. 13
    Hypocrisy of the Left says:

  14. 14
    so what says:

  15. 15
    so there says:

She should put up or shut up.

  16. 16
    tanzanite aka nell says:

‘proved her claim?’ That isn’t mshodges approach at all , she says she’s innocent until someone proves her guilty and then instantly rushes about to hide any evidence that would shows she’s not telling the truth.

When asked how much the company earns or any financial details, which she had previously said she had researched in depth, she responds she doesn’t know she’s only a shareholder.

So does she or doesn’t she know the answer?. Either she has researched it but doesn’t want to tell us or she hasn’t bothered to research it and is just bluffing her way through. Either way she’s in the wrong!

  17. 17
    eh? says:

Burley did a great job of skewering Hodge.

  18. 18
Labour is off its ED says:

I never really liked Kay Burley, but she has gone up in my estimation. She certainly wiped the smug look off ‘Hodge the Dodge’ face.

Keep on this one please Guido, as it’s got legs. :)

  19. 19
    pay yer taxes says:

Hodge made absolutely no sense at all in that interview.

  20. 20
    Constance Briscoe says:

As Guido well knows there is nonce a scandal waiting to break that will bring down not only this spiv government, but all of parliament and a few of the royal houses of Europe, remember what they did to Mountbatten?

  21. 21
    Viv Dean says:

Quite. Give us the figures, Hodge.

Incidentally, ‘Hodge’ used to be equated with an honest English countryman.
    And now?

  22. 22
    a whelk says:

    Do you mind.
I’m far more politically adept than that twat.

  23. 23
And other hand we also have the Islington child abuse cover up says:

Yes fair play to her she got Hodge rattled all right. About time this grandstanding hypocrite was exposed.

  24. 24
    tanzanite aka nell says:

  25. 25
Capt. Shadow (Retd.) - Former MI5 Wet Ops. Team (currently on secondment to HMRC)) says:

So when are HMRC going to investigate whether or not the correct amount of Tax is being paid by the company of which she is a Shareholder? Or will Hodge call them to appear before her?…

  26. 26
    Lord Stansted says:

The whole tax morality trip is total crap. Google, Amazon, etc. obey UK tax laws. If Hodge and her MP pals don’t like it then f****ing change the law.

  27. 27
Capt. Shadow (Retd.) - Former MI5 Wet Ops. Team (currently on secondment to HMRC)) says:

    I thought he’d Retired years ago?…

  28. 28
    Steve Miliband says:

Thought she was coming on for a pat on the back a la BBC. Instead got a kick

  29. 29
    Twozin Portside says:

    I agree, entirely.

  30. 30
    Burley's bangers says:

The only upside of being unemployed for a spell in the late 1990s was masturbating to watching her on the news during the day. She was a right fit piece of cock bait back then.

  31. 31
    Liar.Politicians says:

Full interview here for context.. makes Margaret Hodge look an even bigger idiot.

  32. 32
    Burley's bangers says:

The establishment are being very careful to firewall every investigation and every lead to stop the main players from ever facing justice. Sacrificing a few ageing c list celebs is not going to worry them too much. The BBC, parliament, the Met Police, the CPS and the Judiciary will carry on helping to cover it all up.

  33. 33
    Eleanor Jackson says:

Sex should be banned so as not to offend muslims.

  34. 34
    Gonk III says:

The behaviour of these grandstanding committees and their almost criminally rude attitudes to those witnesses appearing before them is disgraceful.
As far as I’m aware they’re not courts of law and unless compelled I simply wouldn’t attend. Perfectly obvious most committee members are pathetically ambitious with skewed patterns of decency and conduct.

  35. 35
    Janan Ganesh Fan says:

    G.O.T.C.H.A. !!!

I love the way the smile vanishes from her face!

  36. 36
    Owen Jones says:

    Retired? You mean retarded

  37. 37
    Ron Barras says:

    Another scummer MP exposed.

  38. 38
    Lord Duckhouse of Pondlife says:

I’d vote for her to shut up – for ever.

  39. 39
    dustybloke says:

    Hodge is God.

She is the arbiter of mortal morals.

Stemcor pays a fair share and everyone else does not.

She doesn’t have the figures but She has spoken and it is so.

Not so much a Fat Cat as a Podge Hodge.

  40. 40
    Hodge the hog says:

    Hypocritical Cow!

  41. 41
    Andrew Efiong says:

So it’s fine for a company to pay next to no tax when she’s a shareholder but it’s not acceptable when she doesn’t?

She’s been flushed out now, what a hypocrit!

  42. 42
    Well done Kay says:

  43. 43
The Labour Party and it's supporters says:

    Do as we say.
    Not as we do.

  44. 44
    Lord Duckhouse of Pondlife says:

Hodge: “I’ve made absolutely sure they pay a fair share.”

    Burley: “0.01% doesn’t sound like a lot.”

    Hodge: “I think would suggest to you I’m not, I’m not, I told you I’m not, I don’t, I haven’t, you know I don’t have any dealings……”

She says she’s looked into it and is confident the company pays its fair share but when asked what that is as a percentage…….”I can’t give you that answer.”

Funny how she can effortlessly trot out figures for the companies she’s gunning for.

  45. 45
    ancientpopeye says:

She could make an excellent belly dancer, the way she wriggles.
She knows, because she told us, that they pay every penny in tax but then claims she knows nothing of the day to day running of her company.
Why is she still chair of the committee?

  46. 46
    Fat Jacques says:

Because the relevant law is EU tax treaty. Can’t change it.

  47. 47
    Pearl Neclesse says:

A mate of mine may have shagged Draper’s missus ( when she was roughly legal but with huge shakers) over the bonnet of his Triumph Spitfire…

  48. 48
    Umbongo says:

Pity Burley both doesn’t understand that corporation tax is paid on profits not turnover and that Lady Hodge’s hypocrisy concerns not the tax affairs of her family company Stemcor but her father’s setting up a trust so that she and her siblings could retain control of Stemcor and avoid inheritance tax. As far as I am aware, Lady Hodge has not offered to repay her bit of the avoided IHT on her interest in her father’s trust. That said, and as Lord Stansted wrote further up this thread, Google (and Stemcor) arrange their tax affairs according to the law. If the politicians don’t like the effects of that law they have the power to change it.

  49. 49
Labour is off its ED says:

E-mail the ugly bitch (Eleanor Jackson …..

I’ve given her both barrels, and await her reply (won’t hold my breath though).

  50. 50
    Remotely Controlled says:

Does La Hodge have a bumper sticker on her car saying “My other company is Google”?

  51. 51
  52. 52
Labour is off its ED says:

Thank you for the explanation Lord Hodge!

  53. 53
    PC Dixon says:

In other words she’s bare faced lying – Well done to Kay Burley – How Hodge can say she dosnt know how much the company pays when she’s a major shareholder AND MUST HAVE CHECKED IT OUT after all the publicity she’s had.

Note how the BBC have said NOTHING – they are so BLATANTLY biased to the left its mind boggling. – No doubt with an ex Guardian Lefty taking over Newsnight it will get even more left wing also.

  54. 54
    busie says:

never seen burley tackle a tory

she’s a cnunt, an illiterate and fungicidal cnunt

  55. 55
    green ink says:

Hodge does the head on one side routine and paddles like fury as per usual for a labour apologist …. just a complete hypocrite

if a story changes within a few sentences then its a lie. She was quite simply a rabbit caught in a spotlight.

Why this odious woman has not taken a fall before now I have no idea. She has fucked up everything she has ever done including in the councils

  59. 59
Guy Martin to win TT2013 says:

0:40 “many many billions, well over 4 billion”

    no that many then.

1:30 “I don’t think the law is black and white, there has to be an interpretation and judgment made”

I thought that the point of law is that it is black and white, the alternative (interpretation and judgment) is generally called dictatorship.

9:04 “that every company who is hassled and bullied by HMRC that is UK based”

so a government department is openly involved in bullying then, oh dear.

“Bullying is the use of force or coercion to abuse or intimidate others.”

  60. 60
    Tuscan Tony says:

“Unemployed”? I thought you were Chancellor of the Exchequer in the late 90s, Gordon.

  61. 61
    Gonk III says:

  62. 62

Great fun Missus Dodge. I er am er a er er shareholder in er the company and er I er don’t er tell porkies not er even baby ones. Itsagame innit?

  63. 63

  64. 64
    johnboy says:

OF 41%. Comopanies don’t pay on their TURNOVER which appear to be how burley got her figure. but when did facts to SKY?

  65. 65
    Quantrill says:

Or my real name is Oppenheimer ?

  66. 66
I thought this site was about free speech says:

nice one, Hodge is one evil mutha. And pretty dim of her to come on tv to discuss tax morality given that anyone who follows the real news knows she’s full of siht.
She’ll be coming on next week to talk about how terrible child abuse is. String her up from the nearest tree and I’ll flick the switch

  67. 67
    Saddle sore says:

Cyclists cannot dodge the Hodge. Car doors and mobile phones are a dangerous mix in the hands of this woman.

  68. 68
    Why is this trending? says:

What’s new? The blokes at Qwik-Fit retyre every day.

  69. 69

any chance of humphrys “ripping her a new entwhistle”

  70. 70
    lojolondon says:

Full marks to Kay Burley. Hodge the Dodge – love to see the smile slip away at 10 sec. and never reappear.

  71. 71
    lojolondon says:

Kay tackles everyone. Unlike the Biased BBC, which takes taxpayers’ money to act as the propaganda wing of the Liebour party!

  72. 72
    dustybloke says:

I have been wondering if Kay got into a lesbian relationship with a famous actress would the offspring be a Hurley Burley?

Anyroadup, I hope Burley is quoting tax/turnover rather than tax/profits because that is the method Hodge Podge uses when attacking Amazon, Starbucks et al.

  73. 73
    Anonymous says:

I really hate listening to Margaret Hodge and co questioning people before her committee, are they really allowed to be so offensive ? i heard them talking to the man from Google at lunchtime, she was awful as usual but a conservative MP (didnt catch his name ) was almost hysterical ! shouting in a really mad way. I would complain if i had been treated like that.

Even if Burley was quoting tax/turnover rather than tax/profits Hodge should have been able to correct her – as an “informed” shareholder but didn’t.

  79. 79
    Jimmy says:

In Kay Burley the right has finally found Guido’s intellectual equal.

Will this turnover tax idea catch on?

  80. 80
    Lord John Burns says:

Margaret Hodge is a lying tax dodging count (silent “o”).

That lying pile of shit makes me feel sorry for multi nationals.

If I had my way I would treat her to the “pottery man” treatment in the film “The Naked Prey” (1966)

  81. 81
    Frank Words says:

    fuck off you lefty Hunt

  82. 82
    Judge Ye Not says:

Margaret Hodge’s use of Trusts to shelter millions of pounds from the taxman is within the rules and perfectly legal, just like Google’s, Amazon’s and Starbucks’.

  83. 83
    Lord John Burns says:

No. cover her in clay and roast the bitch over a fire.

  84. 84
    Judge Ye Not says:

I just saw her interviewed on C4 by Guru Murthy.
She told him that her family Trusts do not provide any shelter from IHT.
I think she should sue her lawyer!

  85. 85
    john@loggerheads says:

Didn’t offend those Oxford rapists, or the earlier Lancashire lot.
    They were all Muslims.

  86. 86
    Long John Silver's parrot says:

I have seen tax to turnover ratios quoted in quite a few places in the last few weeks.

Seems to be flavor of the month.

Champagne Socialists are generally the nastiest breed of the species.

  87. 87
    John says:

You have to admit it’s been a bad day at the office when Kay Burley manages to corner you. That’s only one step up from being skewered by (say) Helen Skelton or Nicki Minaj…

  88. 88
    Pundit Too. says:

At last they are catching up with the largest hypocrite in Westminster.
Google and Starbucks should investigate HER company and trust, and give the results at their next Hodge the Dodge meeting.
Bet they never get called if they come up with the goods on this charlatan tax dodge hodge podge.
Birley should have asked why Hodge threatened legal action on any investigation. Hiding behind being a “simple” shareholder is ridiculous in her case.

  89. 89
    Just Saying. says:

They certainly have the means and resources to fight back, but I suspect they will take their revenge cold.
Can’t wait for Hodge the Dodge’s downfall.
Will be even better than Hitler’s.

  90. 90
    Bookie's runner says:

Hodge the Dodge is running in the 4-20 at Chepstow on Friday but is at 5 million to 1 against ever telling the truth about her finances and tax avoidance.

  91. 91
    Bookie's runner says:

She says tax is paid on the profits in “this country” which implies that like Google money is shifted out of the country overseas like to the Netherlands, and taxed at a much lower rate.
Getting the facts from Stemcor could be a major task as they will have used Hodge’s pals in PWC to hide the facts.
We need a few Stemcor whistleblowers.

  92. 92
    Great Granddad says:

The greatest compliment I can pay her (Kay that is, not Hodgepodge) is that I would vote for her in my constituency, whichever party she stood for. Like most of us, Dodgeypodgie pays that amount of tax that the law demands. “Not a Penny More, not a Penny Less”. Sadly, the law is designed for the likes of Hodgepuddle and not for the needs of Great Granddad.

  93. 93
    Normanscottsdog says:

A Wally, or a Whelk? Maybe a Willy?

  94. 94
    Jorge Orwell says:

We paid more than that for a business with a turn over a little under a thousandth of hodge’s

  95. 95
    PaulAyer says:

Mr Fawkes we need your help.

I live in Barking and like other constituents I have serious concerns about our MP Margaret Hodge however we are too scared to raise them; every news clip we have seen she has threatened to take legal action against anyone who dares to oppose or challenge her. Is it normal to feel that way about your MP? Surely a MP is someone whom we can confide in and someone that we respect?

  96. 96

Just when you think politics can’t get any worse, it does. Primarily, it seems, because someone had the brilliant idea of importing the US system of senatorial scrutiny of public figures. Remember that senator who tried to put the screws on George Galloway? Didn’t work out quite so well for him. I can only hope that Hodge’s comeuppance isn’t too far away.

Hodge *is* a hopeless hypocrite. If it were someone else holding shares in a company behaving in a shady manner, she would say they should sell their shares once they know the score. The fact that it’s her family’s firm means she can’t do that, but it also means she has their ear at least, even if she’s ‘not involved in the day to day business’. Stemcor is the clanking chain this faux lefty drags with her wherever she goes.

  97. 97
    Bloke says:

“£160,000 tax on £2 billion doesnt sound right, does it ?”

No. Because nobody should pay any tax. It’s only Lefty Theft after all.

  98. 98
    Frightened Inmate #2 says:

Not that simple m’Lord. Tax laws were drafted in simpler times and Google and Amazon can afford very clever tax avoidance specialists. Now you have Starbucks selling you a cup of over-priced mud and claiming they made no profit in the UK because the beans were off-shored from Belgium via Switzerland. Of course the profit is made in the same jurisdiction as the purchaser but the laws need tightening up to reflect this.

Boris on British Jihadis. Apparently based on MI5 intel:

“If you look at all the psychological profiling about bombers, they typically will look at porn. They are literally w***ers. Severe onanists. They are tortured. They will be very badly adjusted in their relations with women, and that is a symptom of their feeling of being failures and that the world is against them. They are not making it with girls, and so they turn to other forms of spiritual comfort — which of course is no comfort.”
