Ding Dong the Cash is Going to Corporations

The hard-left campaign to get “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” from the Wizard of Oz to the top of the charts has seen the track downloaded a mere 20,000 times. Or in other words, by less than 0.031 % of the population. Those sad lefties that are buying it will be pleased to hear their cash is lining the pockets of shareholders in the multi-national corporations EMI Feist, and their owner, Sony who bought it from Citi, the world’s largest bank, in a £2.5 billion deal…

The BBC have displayed their usual spectacular editorial judgement and declared that they will play the song in the charts, explaining it with a news package explaining to children that hate-filled socialists have bought the song to celebrate the death of a grandmother. This should not be a complicated editorial decision-making process, even for the Beeb: “It would not be appropriate for a publicly funded organisation to play a song in celebration of the death of an 87 year-old woman.” If Guido had a TV licence, he would burn it…

    Tory Boy's gaping ass says:

The trouble with Thatcherism is you eventually run out of North Sea oil.

  2. 2

Something you can’t accuse the left of, is understanding much about the world financial or other around them. Kinnock still think everyone was worse off under thatcher. Had he got in candle prices would have rocketed?

  3. 3
    Jimmy says:

Remember righties, the best response to lefties trying to wind you up is to rise to the bait. Works every time.

  4. 4
    TotallyPissedOff says:

Margaret Thatchers death seems to be even more divisive than her life.

I have finally decided that I actually hate left wing people now. If they ever get control in the UK again I will leave as I cannot bear the sort of nation we have become. A society of bleating victims, beset by ‘issues’, and nannied by government agencies. People like me just don’t fit in here any more.

  5. 5
    nellnewman says:

I gave up listening to the beeb years ago,

Its ‘news’ programmes are nothing more than leftwing propaganda – hateful, biased , unjournalistic. Very similiar to the sort of stuff you find on nkorean brainwashing ‘news’ channels.

They are a mouthpiece for the labour party , not a serious professional news programme.

The beeb is past its sell by date and will eventually get sold off in bits.

  6. 6
    Kebab Time says:

The market decide what songs make it into charts ( people like it they buy it), The BBC play the charts, are you really saying they should not play something in the charts because you find it distasteful?

Its bad enough some on the right calling for teachers to have freedom of speech and expression removed, but to object to a song that they market ( people) have decided is popular should be not played?

    What would Brian say? ;)

“I may disagree with what you say but i will defend to the death your right to say it”

Free speech and expression is also for idiot lefties/morons and teachers

  7. 7
    Paul says:

The BBC will be crossing a line if they broadcast this song on Sunday.

My direct debit will be cancelled and I will see them in court.

  8. 8
    BBC Red Bottom says:

If Guido had a TV licence, he would burn it…

If you just renewing your annual TV licence why not avail yourself of the paperless option? That way you can’t burn it in the streets…

  9. 9
    Greedo is murdochs poodle says:

Ahhhhh, so the need for freedom of speech only applies when the rights of greedos paymaster Murdoch are threatened.

  10. 10
    Precarious Prole says:

And your utility companies end up in the ownership of the French, the Germans and the Spanish.

  11. 11
    Paul says:

Oh come on. This isn’t about freedom of speech. Noone is suggesting that people shouldn’t be able to buy the record.

The decision about whether or not to broadcast it is a matter of taste and not freedom of speech. The BBC is perfectly entitled to decided not to play a song which is gratuitously offensive in this particular context.

  12. 12
    Precarious Prole says:

I don’t think they’ve realised it yet, Jimmy.

  13. 13
    Paul says:

How is this a freedom of speech issue?

  14. 14
Council tennant with a spare room says:

socialist/bbc hypocrisy is enough to make you want to vomit
have already told one bbc street interviewer where to stick her microphone when she asked me “why did you dislike Margaret Thatcher?”

  15. 15
    Panem.et.circenses says:

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of somebody elses money.

  16. 16
    Precarious Prole says:

It’s because the hatred is compressed into a week and a half instead of ten years.

  17. 17

On LBC just now was a lefty who denounced Thatcher for Chile’s past and blamed her for death’s against ‘left wingers’ in that country.

JHB – asked if he had ever heard of the millions and millions who died under Stalin and Mao.

    He denied it ever happened.
Naturally he was a former teacher.

    Former teacher-current tosspot.

You can’t not play something in the charts unless it’s actually offensive, but they are right to package that with an explanation.

It’s what she would have wanted.

  24. 24
    mraemiller says:

Why do we have to be nice about her because she is a grandmother. Do you automatically become immune to satire because you’ve popped one out?

Also I kind of think she’d have got the joke.

Many people independently told me that “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” was the first thing that came into their heads…

Compared with what Spitting Image said about her when she was alive it is all pretty tame.

I think she’d have enjoyed it.
Or she’d have said “this proves I am great” – which isn’t true but that was her…

She loved being hated – almost as much as people loved hating her.
It was a hate hate relationship.

Your own reaction – that the occasion is of such solemnity your entire website had to be shut down for an entire day with a photograph of her in its place is pretty much beyond parody too… you might have thought she was a great lady but this isn’t the soviet union – we are capable of both having a laugh and mourning the dead ……. surely?

  25. 25
    Precarious Prole says:

Don’t watch it then. You’ll feel much better. Switch to shITV instead.

Apple, Amazon and the copyright holders will be raising a toast to Margaret Thatcher for boosting their sales, profits and profiles.

Glenda Jackass’s speech should be rerun on TV to remind children why their parents, and grandparents voted for Mrs Thatcher in very, very large numbers.

  29. 29
    Tessa Tickles says:

The other problem with socialism is it’s shít.

Oh, and the bodycount. 100 million dead in the 20th Century. But (altogether now..) “it’s the Tories who are nasty..”

  30. 30
    Thatchers Ghost says:

Well i am dead and i don’t give a f***k about the lefties any more.
up here in heaven, i am going to marshal the angels to picket the gates.
so when that ginger welsh T**T Kinnock rocks up he will be barded.

As in life i beat him to it every time

  31. 31
    Tony Blackburn says:

    Hello Pop Pickers …….

Maybe we need to get a tune into the charts which highlights BBC bias. Any ideas????

  32. 32
    Dr Stanz says:

And yet the BBC do not want to acknowledge (At least from what I have seen so far), that another campaign among Pro Wrestling fans to get this wrestler’s entrance theme – http://youtu.be/5K8f3f3GMaI – high in the download charts has so far managed to get it in the Top 20 region of UK downloads on iTunes.

  33. 33
    Metrosexual Tony says:

They are just downloading this song because they are friends of Dorothy.

  34. 34
    Anonymous says:

    spot on.

if they had censored it, perhaps we should say we’re buying One Direction’s latest offering in the name of satan and get that banned too

  35. 35
    Precarious Prole says:

But we haven’t had socialism in this country since 1979.

  36. 36
    tigerowl says:

Hard lefties. Now there is term most normal people have left behind. Most of those promoting demonstrations against Thatch at her send off and downloading the song are not left, right or centre. Most have no alliance to politics. You do not have to be any side to hate what Thatch did. just need to see through your eyes. Sooner have some of these downloading people than some who will be at the funeral. Society – yes Thatch fans there is such a thing – is made up of all sorts. Even hard righties.

  37. 37
    MFHsoCaCoS says:

Do nowt Dave should now start the ball rolling and dismantle this broadcasting dinosaur propaganda wing of the looney left

  38. 38
    nellnewman says:

hmm I’m not sure about this freedom of speech for teachers KT.

If that teacher ,that has been arranging death parties this week, was teaching at YoungNells school I’d be calling for her to be sacked. I wouldn’t want my children to be taught to behave like her ot to think following her loathsome example was acceptable social behaviour, because it isn’t!!.

  39. 39
It is perfectly acceptable to have a skanky student to run your life for you. says:

That’s exactly what I was thinking last night that this is all about money & greed. Plus this is a propaganda war too. These thick socialist are coming across as the neanderthals that we all know they are. Bring it on! Show these socialist idiots up for what they truly are! Scrounging hooligans with no respect for anyone rights!

  40. 40
    Lighten up says:

You may not like lefties buying it but to say it shouldn’t be played on BBC radio or TV is just fascistic censorship. How is that a stance for a libertarian? The BBC play the top 40 songs. It’s simply the results of consumer choices. If consumers choose to buy it and it gets to No1, they’ll play it. Big deal.

  41. 41
    Dr Kramer says:

The utility companies were allowed to fall into the hands of foreign owners AFTER 1997. Blair and Brown did nothing to stop this. They could have followed the French example – they won’t allow any of their utilities companies to be owned by foreigners. Blair and Brown probably allowed French and German companies to take over our utilities to show Brussels what good Europeans they are.

What’s Fatty Pang doing about it. Wasn’t he a Tory at some point?

  57. 57
    Potillo's peccadillo says:

    We didn’t he it then.

It was a Labour government (drafted by ‘lefty legend’, Barbara Castle) which drafted the document on trade union reform which formed the blueprint for Thatcher’s attack on organised labour in the 80s.

And let’s not forget that Attlees government cracked down hard on strikes, even using the army to do so, something a Tory government of that time would almost certainly avoided.

Oh, and Labour never even supported the General Strike in its radical hayday of the 1920s!

We’ve been ruled by capitalists (Keynsians or otherwise) forever.

  58. 58
    dr steve brule says:

Agree with lighten up. if it’s in the charts then it’s in the charts. not to pleased about Margaret Thatcher being championed as some sort of libertarian hero – she was nothing of the sort. This wailing about the song being played by the BBC is akin to the worst of the guardian hand-wringing.

  59. 59

I agree with you. Until two weeks ago I’d have said Labour would win in 2015, and I wasn’t that fussed as there wasn’t much difference between them and Cameron’s Conservatives – but how everything has suddenly changed. Labour are veering off to the Left, into that barren wasteland of unelectability, whilst the Cons are (at last) starting to show some backbone by breaking the grasping fingers of parasites. And we’re seeing the terrified bedwetters píss themselves publicly over ‘bedroom taxes’, and rejoicing that an 87 year old grandmother – and very successful former politician – has died.

The course is set within ten years the EU will have all but gone and the world will run along commercial rules as it always has been and as Lady Thatcher wanted. It mentioned Coca Cola which Ray Davies went back to London to record a version with Cherry Cola which I presume was banned when Coca Cola launched Cherry Cola. The other key point which no-one seems to have mentioned is: whenever the BBC ban a song (God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols, Relax by FGTH), it goes straight to Number 1. Sadly, they’ll go the easy route and probably come up with The Lion Sleeps Tonight (Mbube), as it is by a black South African who was cheated out of his royalties during the “evil” apartheid regime (actually, he wrote it years before– and it’s by a Zulu, not a Xhosa like Mandela, the two of which nations got along about as well in past centuries as the British and Germans in the 20th). Although it is literally a song about hunting lions, and the “lion sleeping” refers to the fact that it has been hunted down and killed by the young men protecting their herds of cattle, some people saw it as some sort of allegory of Mandela during his time on Robben Island:

According to the Official Charts Company, the track, credited to the ‘Wizard of Oz Film Cast’, has sold more than 10,600 copies, leaving it around 5000 copies shy of a top three placing.

Other versions of the song, one credited to July Garland and another cover version sung by Ella Fitzgerald, are also appearing in the official chart, at number 54 and 146 respectively.

It is already one of the shortest songs ever to chart, coming in at 51 seconds long.

It’s not clear yet whether the BBC will play the song on the Official Chart Show on Sunday. In a statement quoted by the Daily Mail, the BBC said: “The Official Chart Show on Sunday is a historical and factual account of what the British public has been buying and we will make a decision about playing it when the final chart positions are clear.”

The campaign began on Wednesday on Facebook and has since been gathering pace, with the page boasting 7,383 members at the time of writing.

The chart closes at midnight on Saturday, after which the placings will be announced on Radio 1’s Official Chart Update show on Sunday.

The news follows director Ken Loach suggesting that Thatcher’s funeral be privatised, rather be paid for from the public purse, as it would be ‘what she would have wanted’.

what saddens me is that labour in 1997 had a great opportunity to build this country given the amount of cash it had and the economy.

It could have built thousands of houses across the country to sort out over crowding and in London, on the Chelsea barracks site (it could have asked the MOD to give it to a community organisation). With the batterseas power station it could have compulsory purchased the land and built loads of social housing on that site for Londoners (but it did not as it was in a tory borough).

In the north it could have cut business rates to encourage firms to relocate from expensive London. It did not.

The years from 1997 to 2010 will be regarded as a wasted opportunity which may be remembered for the invasion of Iraq and banning foxhunting.

Labour was more concerned about media management and staying in power than creating a real legacy for the people of this country.

Confirming what most people have already known for a long time – he’s just a tory party lacky

  285. 285

  287. 287

It’s just a nice example of how out of touch the tory media is.

Reminiscent of Mitt Romney in the USA – I have a highly funded conservative media blogging operation supporting everything I do. How can I lose!

Lots of people hated Thatcher, her policies, and her affect on their lives. Most Northern, Scottish, Welsh cities. Plenty of London.

Sorry Guido – to be campaigning for censorship, as it personally offends you, degrades your site

  288. 288

Loads of people at my company downloaded it. As they grew up in grotty towns, went to grotty schools, and had to put up with their leader calling Nelson Mandela a terrorist, having tea with Pinochet, and diverting aid funds to Pol Pot.

Claiming everyone who disagrees with you is a “hard left activist” is just the sort of trick North Korea or China play.

To call yourself a libertarian, is just offensive to actual libertarians.

  289. 289

You know, The Sun hack a dead girls phone and Guido’s on the Levenson news campaigning for “free speech” and attacking the “thought police”.

People use their own money, to democratically compile a singles chart, and Guido’s calling for it to be censored as it offends him personally.

  290. 290
    Ryan says:

So just how much money did it cost UNITE to download this track 20,000 times? About 7000 quid?

Perhaps Guido should ask Lord Cashcroft to push this track further down the list. We could get someone to do a Maggie version of “Jesus Christ Superstar” and then Lord Cashcroft could set up a little direct debit to ensure it stays top of the charts for the next 100 years…..

That’s the problem with Guardian reading left-wingers – they can only look one step ahead.

  291. 291
    Jim says:

It is hilarious how the right-wing loons respond to a little criticism bearing in mind that the press particularly is dominated by tax evaders, criminal hackers, ex KGB agents, and the sons of Nazi appeasers all involved in publishing their daily torrent of abuse, lies, misrepresentation and supporting ‘Ding Dong’s poisonous message.

Boris on British Jihadis. Apparently based on MI5 intel:

“If you look at all the psychological profiling about bombers, they typically will look at porn. They are literally w***ers. Severe onanists. They are tortured. They will be very badly adjusted in their relations with women, and that is a symptom of their feeling of being failures and that the world is against them. They are not making it with girls, and so they turn to other forms of spiritual comfort — which of course is no comfort.”
