Ding Dong the Cash is Going to Corporations

ding-dong-sony-emi

The hard-left campaign to get “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” from the Wizard of Oz to the top of the charts has seen the track downloaded a mere 20,000 times. Or in other words, by less than 0.031 % of the population. Those sad lefties that are buying it will be pleased to hear their cash is lining the pockets of shareholders in the multi-national corporations EMI Feist, and their owner, Sony who bought it from Citi, the world’s largest bank, in a £2.5 billion deal…

The BBC have displayed their usual spectacular editorial judgement and declared that they will play the song in the charts, explaining it with a news package explaining to children that hate-filled socialists have bought the song to celebrate the death of a grandmother. This should not be a complicated editorial decision-making process, even for the Beeb: “It would not be appropriate for a publicly funded organisation to play a song in celebration of the death of an 87 year-old woman.” If Guido had a TV licence, he would burn it…

The utility companies were allowed to fall into the hands of foreign owners AFTER 1997. Blair and Brown did nothing to stop this. They could have followed the French example – they won’t allow any of their utilities companies to be owned by foreigners. Blair and Brown probably allowed French and German companies to take over our utilities to show Brussels what good Europeans they are.

It was a Labour government (drafted by ‘lefty legend’, Barbara Castle) which drafted the document on trade union reform which formed the blueprint for Thatcher’s attack on organised labour in the 80s.

And let’s not forget that Attlees government cracked down hard on strikes, even using the army to do so, something a Tory government of that time would almost certainly avoided.

Oh, and Labour never even supported the General Strike in its radical hayday of the 1920s!

Compared with what Spitting Image said about her when she was alive it is all pretty tame.

I think she’d have enjoyed it.
Or she’d have said “this proves I am great” – which isn’t true but that was her…

She loved being hated – almost as much as people loved hating her.
It was a hate hate relationship.

Your own reaction – that the occasion is of such solemnity your entire website had to be shut down for an entire day with a photograph of her in its place is pretty much beyond parody too… you might have thought she was a great lady but this isn’t the soviet union – we are capable of both having a laugh and mourning the dead ……. surely?

Sadly, they’ll go the easy route and probably come up with The Lion Sleeps Tonight (Mbube), as it is by a black South African who was cheated out of his royalties during the “evil” apartheid regime (actually, he wrote it years before– and it’s by a Zulu, not a Xhosa like Mandela, the two of which nations got along about as well in past centuries as the British and Germans in the 20th). Although it is literally a song about hunting lions, and the “lion sleeping” refers to the fact that it has been hunted down and killed by the young men protecting their herds of cattle, some people saw it as some sort of allegory of Mandela during his time on Robben Island:

what saddens me is that labour in 1997 had a great opportunity to build this country given the amount of cash it had and the economy.

It could have built thousands of houses across the country to sort out over crowding and in London, on the Chelsea barracks site (it could have asked the MOD to give it to a community organisation). With the batterseas power station it could have compulsory purchased the land and built loads of social housing on that site for Londoners (but it did not as it was in a tory borough).

In the north it could have cut business rates to encourage firms to relocate from expensive London. It did not.

The years from 1997 to 2010 will be regarded as a wasted opportunity which may be remembered for the invasion of Iraq and banning foxhunting.

Labour was more concerned about media management and staying in power than creating a real legacy for the people of this country.

Only in northern Ireland did it manage a sort out a peace process.

According to the Official Charts Company, the track, credited to the ‘Wizard of Oz Film Cast’, has sold more than 10,600 copies, leaving it around 5000 copies shy of a top three placing.

Other versions of the song, one credited to July Garland and another cover version sung by Ella Fitzgerald, are also appearing in the official chart, at number 54 and 146 respectively.

It is already one of the shortest songs ever to chart, coming in at 51 seconds long.

It’s not clear yet whether the BBC will play the song on the Official Chart Show on Sunday. In a statement quoted by the Daily Mail, the BBC said: “The Official Chart Show on Sunday is a historical and factual account of what the British public has been buying and we will make a decision about playing it when the final chart positions are clear.”

The campaign began on Wednesday on Facebook and has since been gathering pace, with the page boasting 7,383 members at the time of writing.

The chart closes at midnight on Saturday, after which the placings will be announced on Radio 1’s Official Chart Update show on Sunday.

The news follows director Ken Loach suggesting that Thatcher’s funeral be privatised, rather be paid for from the public purse, as it would be ‘what she would have wanted’.
