Tory MP: NHS Appointment Sticks Two Fingers Up to Patients

Judging by who David Nicholson has just chosen to be his number two, the Mail’s Man With No Shame nickname seems pretty apt. Let’s take a look at Dame Barbara Hakin’s CV:

  • Paid £70,000 a year as national managing director of the NHS Commissioning Board.
  • Reported to have forked out £500,000 for a gagging order to silence United Lincolnshire hospital trust, where 670 patients died needlessly.
  • Believed to have quashed a report investigating why so many had died at the trust.
  • Promoted to interim deputy chief executive of body in charge of the NHS, deputy to David Nicholson.

Sounds like the perfect candidate, then. Tory MP Philip Davies has slammed the appointment, telling Guido this morning:

“Given all that has happened in recent weeks this appears to be a bizarre appointment which sticks two fingers up to NHS patients’ but is business as usual for the people who are bringing the NHS into disrepute.”

Hard to argue…

Whoever gets power then (with an unachievable manifesto) will also have the same lack of nous & courage due to the poor availability of real talent & ability contained in the political pool.
We are in for a decade of hard times.

The entire NHS is now quite obviously beyond a joke. Given that it’s us poor saps that have to use it and pay for it, will somebody in government please start to act in our interests and get rid of these overpaid incompetent leeches that are managing what should be a major national asset solely for their own gratification?

Nicholson – out. Hakin – out. Scores of others from exactly the same mould – out. Now.

Then bring in some private sector senior managers, and give them a remit to reorganise the NHS so that runs in the patients’ and taxpayers’ interests.

Now, please. Not in a decade.

Just goes to show, that in the public sector, no-one is accountable or liable.

The NHS, like the DWP and HMRC, is a process driven machine. Provided you stick to the process, tick the boxes, fill in the forms, then you have done no wrong and cannot be held accountable for the flaws, or any collateral.

Notice the rather loud abscence of any agit-prop from the unions, they know the process structure, and won’t rock the boat for their members.
BUT, if the NHS had been in private ownership the screams and howls of outrage would be loud and on-going.
