Huhne gave two interviews before he was jailed. This to the Guardian:
“I am sorry. I want to say that to family, to friends, to constituents and to colleagues. Lawmakers can be many things, but they cannot be lawbreakers. I should have owned up and got on with doing something else with my career. It is awful that people I love have been dragged into this gruelling experience. My family need time and space to get over this. Anyone who knows me knows I am not a bully -that is not amongst friends my reputation. Of course I do not want to go to prison. Losing freedom hurts, but I will not be the first person to go to prison.”
And this to Channel 4 News:
“I certainly lied & lied again, and part of it was about saving my career. It was a very stupid thing to do and I very much regret doing it. I am very sorry that I did do it.”
Lights out…
Chris and Vicky have arrived at court as they await sentencing at 2pm. To mark the occasion you can win a copy of Lee Rotherham’s “The EU in a Nutshell: Everything you wanted to know about the European Union but didn’t know who to ask”, by entering Guido’s Huhne and Pryce Sentencing Sweepstakes. The rules are simple: leave your prediction – in months – for how long Huhne will get, then how long Pryce will get, in the comments.
In the event of a suspended sentence, your guess will still be counted. In the event of a tie names will be drawn out of a hat. Not long to wait so get guessing…
UPDATE: Guido will also be throwing in a dozen “I’ve Been Kissed By Chris” stickers for the lucky winner.
His last few steps as a free man…
27 executives put their names to a letter in the FT this morning praising international aid. The names were gathered by Brendan Fox, former SpAd to Gordon Brown and current Save the Children policy director, where he works with Justin Forysth, another ex-Gordon spinner. So do the signatories have anything in common? BP, Pearson, BT, Xstrata and Reckitt Benckiser all signed the letter, all either are or have been clients of top City spinners Brunswick. Brunswick are in turn run by Alan Parker, a friend of Gordon who is also in charge of Save the Children. Surely all just coincidence…
You might have thought that, having just awarded a student a Masters in journalism, Goldsmiths would know how to spell, er, journalism:
Doh.
UPDATE: Goldsmiths get in touch to complain that “it was actually a framing company who made the mistake when they created a reproduction”, not them.
