Mehdi's Masterclass in Hypocrisy mdi-fullscreen

Seemingly the entire lefty commentariat has been up in arms this morning over the Sun’s decision to run bikini photos of Reeva Steenkamp. HuffPo’s Mehdi Hasan joined in the faux outrage, re-tweeting red-top criticism:

Move over to Mehdi’s own HuffPo website, where surely the progressives would be covering the story sensitively with unrivalled tact and class, the headline is “Reeva Steenkamp, Girlfriend Of Oscar Pistorius, Was An FHM Cover Girl And Rising Star”, HuffPo headlined their profile of the alleged murder victim, followed by – that’s right – a slideshow of bikini shots under the banner “Who was Reeva Steenkamp?” 34 pictures is taking the Pistorius…

UPDATE: Iain Dale, publisher of Mehdi’s biography of Ed Miliband, has written a coruscating blog post about Mehdi’s Huff Po:

Since Chris Wimpress left any pretence at any form of balanced political coverage seems to have gone out the window. Mehdi Hasan, love him dearly as I do, has free reign to rampage with his interesting, but deeply unbalanced opinions. There is little counterbalance to his views at all apart from puff pieces from party politicians which no one apparently bothers to read. Mehdi’s latest article ‘On Iraq, the Hawks Were Wrong About Everything’ is a good example of the pieces he writes on HuffPo. Everyone else is wrong about everything. Mehdi is right about everything. Things aren’t generally as black and white as that.
