Silence From Tory Eastleigh ‘Candidate’

All quiet on the Eastleigh front for the 2010 PPC turned “Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Eastleigh” Maria Hutchins. Despite her seat being the top of the news agenda, she hasn’t said a word about it all day. Not even a tweet.

Could it be that Maria won’t be the candidate again…

UPDATE: A Tory spokesperson has confirmed to Guido that they have yet to officially choose a candidate.

I hope that Farage will not stand at Eastleigh, but put in a very good candidate, and fully support his or her campaign personally.
Then he can go away and plot better, knowing more about public reaction to Lib Dem childishness, Conservatives’ performance and suicide action on gay marriage, and Labour dishonesty and incompetence.
What I find most intriguing is the constant prattle on BBC of the Lib Dems against the Tories and the intervention of UKIP at Eastleigh – yet absolutely nothing about Labour.
Could it be that Labour and Watson have again been caught with their pants down, and the BBC are covering for them?

The significance of this by election lies not in who wins be it Tory or LibDem but in the percentage vote supporting UKIP. If this percentage remains at its currant national poll level or more likely increases then such a result can only mean the Tories will be sunk in 2015. Just 3% of the national vote in the last election was enough to deny Tory victory in no less than 20 seats. Therefore unless there is a major claw back from UKIP (which I might add seems very unlikely) there is no way with today’s polls showing 8% for UKIP that the Tories can win. Remember we will soon be flooded with even more immigrants at a time when we are facing severe cuts in public services. And that on its own will cost the pro EU brigade of all parties many votes.
Looks like it could be fun

        Who Want's Some! says:

The time of struggle could be starting! Dave has got to be got rid off and Labour buried forever. The long war is for 2020 and an English political party that fights for England’s rights. By the time 2020 has come Scotland will have gone UDI, Wales and NI will want the same so it really does become all about England. If Dave loses in 2015 this will either split the Tory party or more likely move it fully to a EuroSceptic, small government, small tax position as this will be the only one that will win. Labour will f_ck up as they’ll be stuck in the past and have lost their Scots MPs. The winners of 2020 will be the new Conservative Party or whatever emerges from its break up. What is clear it that this will be the last chance to remove the current political elite by electoral means, if they manage to stick out to 2020 then the next 20 years will see a very different struggle start.

Well, she upped the 2010 Tory vote by all of 2.1% (nationally that was 3.7% — which includes the disaster areas like Scotland).

Now strip out the bunce that Huhne ‘borrowed’ from Labour’s ‘Anyone but a Tory’ softies. Labour were down 11½%, as opposed to 6.2% nationally, weren’t making much of a effort then (protecting better options) — and that won’t happen this time round. So you’d expect a nearer thing, especially if the dark horse is Farage.

It’s going to need a 22-carat name to pull this one for the Tories; and I don’t see it being the abrasive Hutchings. See this Guardian report for more.
