The tax avoidance witch hunt moral arbiter says she has evidence that PriceWaterhouseCooper are using a “tax efficient operating model”, where they have set up AOL-style structures in tax havens like Luxembourg. Guido feels it is only fair to remind readers of Hodge the Dodge’s double standards.

Start at the Political elite and put their own tax affairs in order first then work on the average citizen. Cut out all the rules and make everyone pay a flat rate of 10%. If you can’t keep the country under budget then do to yourselves what you do to us – and stop spending and quit politics for something less ‘taxing”

The corporations should tell her and the rest of the ‘moral tax crusaders’ to go take a hike.
The various loopholes which exist for avoiding tax in EU can be fixed very easily by withdrawing from the EU.
Lowering corporation tax and simplification of the existing UK tax rules would lessen the incentive for avoidance.
The simplification in particular is likely all that is required as this would reduce the costs to business of actually reporting it’s tax, which would make the rate more bearable and increase the cost of avoidance.
Those are the carrots.
Proper enforcement of tax legislation is the stick.
All of this moralizing is complete b/s and the woman herself should be fully investigated over her own less than honorable dealings.
A good reference point is the cover up of child abuse whilst she was in control of Islington council prior to her stint at PWC.
With the level of corruption which appears to be evident in government at present, all of this talk around tax is a complete waste of public money as nothing will happen purely because the correct fixes would impact the personal interests of those making the ‘decisions’ greatest.

Margaret Hodge did not just work for Price Waterhouse, she was a SENIOR CONSULTANT for them between 1992-94 which she had to give up when she became a Barking MP.

Her companies do not really avoid tax (any more than most), they are not in the same situation as the people she berates…..however on the surface they look like exactly the same thing and her company’s defence is exactly the same as Starbucks. As a politician the onus is on her to clear her name not us to stop asking questions.

There is a film about Hodge on The One Show tonight. Surprising no mention of the side of her above! She claims in it to have no knowledge about tax which seems odd considering her previous job.

This dishonourable lady has core competences in hypocrisy. Although with her background, she will know all about global flexibility to cross over geographical tax boundaries.
