Mitchell Fingers Randall

randall

At the height of the Mitchell scandal Guido broke the news that Deputy Chief Whip John Randall was threatening to resign if Mitchell did not go. Despite various denials, Randall was hauled over the coals in No. 10. Now the news is emerging via Patrick Wintour that Randall had a hand in the original story coming out. And even more interestingly, Channel Four news have that tape:

“It is understood that Channel 4 will show the CCTV recording of Mitchell’s encounter with the armed officers when he was refused permission to wheel his bike through the gates. The recording, which is silent, is understood to show Mitchell exchanging words with the officers. But it is understood that there are no signs of an angry confrontation in the recording, which reportedly shows that Mitchell wheeled his bike through the side entrance when officers declined to allow him to use the main gates.”

Guido’s theory is that Mitchell Subject Data Access Requested the CCTV footage and has passed it on. This is the story that just keeps on giving…

Who made the policy decision to arrest? Did No 10 have a quiet word with the Old Bill to make sure no one messes with the Bullingdon Boy Bullies.

Veiled threats to the DT and now this. Who would trust the Tory led Coalition?? Free press needs to be maintained.

Why aren’t MPs arrested so quickly or ever when there is sufficient suspicion to arrest????? No, they are elevated to the cabinet!! You could not make it up.

Mitchell admitted his bad behaviour and swearing. He apologised- what for if he did nothing wrong???? Arguing over the minutiae of the words used is pointless. No one will ever have a verbatim memory of what was said. This is about getting back in power. How many MPs were suspected of far worse offences and never investigated let alone arrested, some even promoted in cabinet!!! We have crooks who did time in jail back in the Lords FFS.

It’s important to realise that the warrant in this has been obtained by the Capita employee on contract to the BBC, not by the police. The police are not able to force an entry to the house, they are there only to ‘prevent a breach of the peace’.
The law which declares non payment of the BBC tax to be a criminal offence is totally OTT.

You’re right, but the chap is probably merely repeating what the Capita man has told him. It’s likely that because a warrant has been obtained, the policeman thinks he is dealing with a government official rather than a temporary private employee of Capita, paid on commission by the BBC. The policeman behaved very well and correctly other than that.

          Legal Eagle says:

The constable can lie, but in this case he was likely mistaken. We could not see behind the guy with the camera though.

          The TV License site states:

‘You need to be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record TV as it’s being broadcast.’

And they suggest that you inform them if you believe a license is not required at your address.

          The law states:
‘Part 4 of the Communications Act 2003 makes it an offence to install or use a television receiver to watch or record any television programmes as they’re being shown on television without a valid TV Licence.’

Having a television receiver setup in the residence for viewing, even if it has not been used for 20 years would constitute an installation so needs to be licensed. Old TV’s stuck in the loft, or in a clear state of not being installed, eg. Broken, should be fine. Recording devices fitted or attached to TV receivers are also considered installed devices.

The Licensing authority may be able to check internet records remotely to identify if simulcast iPlayer transmissions have been viewed over internet connection attached to the property, or by on a mobile device belonging to an owner whose address is an occupier. Viewing iPlayer transmissions live usually requires a consent form to be acknowledged which will log your IP and other details for this purpose.

To safely stop paying the license fee, install only devices which have no tuner capable of receiving live transmission, and do not watch iPlayer simulcast transmissions on any device registered to the unlicensed address.
