Would be interesting to find the answer for two major questions.
1. Do the Aussies have records of them trying to contact the Edward VII Hospital, and if so why does the hospital constantly deny it?
2. What actions were taken by the Edward VII Hospital toward the two nurses and others involved, and who did what to whom?
Media and bbc etc missing out on both these very obvious questions – wonder why?
The Aussies, or rather the radio station, will have full records. They are not completely stupid. Any claim they make they will be able to back up with evidence – they will be acting under legal advice, and despite being taken off air will not have been abandoned by their employer.
Hospital says no disciplinary action taken etc. No reason to disbelieve them. Other staff will likely whistle blow at some point if there is anything seriously iffy there.
Media / BBC avoiding questions: BBC is currently unreliable, but rest of media will be keeping away as they may have realized that a media circus actually aids cover ups. (See for instance the Portugal case of 2007)
Best wait for the coroners report, reaction from family, and keep an eye on the actions of Vaz. Something for sure is not adding up.

Re Keith Vaz. I believe the nurse’s husband rang him. He is convener of the Home Office Select Committee or something or other, after all. If contacted in this way, surely he would feel obliged to do what he could, even if it did put him in the limelight… which doubtless he loves. I’m not a great fan of KV, but if that is so, I guess he did the right thing.

I think the hospital is to blame and you will also find that they threatened or made her life very hard following the incident, also the husband may be involved as i doubt he was very supportive and for a mother to take her own life her home life must have been hell for a long long time, just waiting for hubby to announce he is suing someone….

The prank call, was a prank. Everything after that was the crime. What was wrong was the media use of it to harass the poor nurse. Even if she was not dead it would still be exploitation of an individual.
Even the radio station tries to claim it wanted permission, so it knew what is required. By saying it tried and then went ahead and released the tape anyway, shows they are the cause.
To use the recording to humiliate is the issue in this country. There is no power given to UK trusts or charities to humiliate or harass individuals.
As an individual that is still being publicly defamed by this government I know it is impossible to fight to clear your name. Once a trust is set up it has no democratic controls and becomes lawless.
It is time this government actually took some responsibility for functions that are paid for by taxes.

It was then replayed endlessly on British television.
Neither media outlets would be affected by any statutory press regulation in the wake of Leveson.
To try and use this poor woman’s death as a means of strengthening the case for state control of newspapers is appalling. But it’s what we would expect from a despicable organisation like Hacked Off, which has used Millie Dowler’s name so shamelessly.
Does not matter where it comes from. All you need to do is act with some decency. The hospital should have been reported to be failing and that it disclosed personal details. Speculation of what it disclosed would have kept the story alive. They should have been ridiculing the Royal security and the hospital management.
There were many people who did not do their jobs that are actually the cause. It is a general UK malaise that everyone claims it is not in their job description to be responsible for anything. Trustees claim no control, management claim no control.
Even the Government now claim they do not have any control.
There is no need for state control of any media. What we need is a legal system that is capable of acting to protect individuals. The laws exist. It is the legal system that is too corrupted to care.
It is because they are all are safe from the law that they act in this way.
There are perfectly adequate laws in place to deal with any transgressions by newspapers, they just need to be used when required.
Nursing staff are usually loyal, and hard working. Night staff may end up taking incoming calls as there are usually few calls in the night. This lady will have been mortified that she could have let the side down. Don’t forget that a cod English accent might not be picked up by someone who is from India and not familiar with nuances of English speech. Imagine if someone rang your hospital ward to get information about you and then broadcast your pox discharge details for a laugh!

To be fair, it would be common practice to interview a nurse involved in something like this in NHS Hospitals, as patient confidentiality is taken very seriously.So i would imagine the same applies in the private sector.Its fascinating the way other (completely innocent ) people are now being drawn in to this situation,The Hospital, its chairman,Prince Phillip, Jeremy Hunt,Prince William ,and MI5.I hope the morons really responsible are sacked.

The BBC were reported as saying that the hospital in question routinely piped radio broadcasts from the Sydney area of Australia for the benefit of the staff!

There IS something suspicious about her death, but it’s not press related. Even if we accepted that she may have been incredibly fragile and felt humiliated, it leaves two questions: would someone with a husband and two children so readily commit suicide? Secondly, all we were told was that she had died of a suspected suicide. Usually, they would say “found hanged” or some other detail. In this case, nothing.

The facts are:
Circumstantial: as you point out, statistically would weight the odds against suicide. However, circumstantial is just that, not proof either way.
Actual: Police have classified ‘unexplained’ and ‘no foul play’. Meaning, no suicide note found, no obvious sign as to what caused death (eg. Hanging), and no obvious sign of third party involvement at the scene of death.
She was discovered unconscious, not dead. ‘Unexplained’ classification leaves the way open for full investigation pending outcome of inquest.
If she had died of a heart attack due to the stress would it be any different?
If she was still alive how many days would they have repeated that recording for?
How many of her “friends” would have been harassed to find other stories of her trusting nature?
Where is the line? Or is any individual just fodder for others peoples profit.

- Proving heart failure due to stress will be tricky. If it can be proven will need investigation: employer most likely in the frame, unless there was some other factor at play – repeated looping on media unlikely: It is not even known if the individual was even paying attention to the media.

Not sure which outlet first identified suicide, but it was not the police. Death certificate has not been issued yet so at present there is only unexplained death – no suicide.
Family statements are strongly contrary to the circumstantial so far reported.

Inquests are only of use if one can find an uncorrupted Coroner – and the right questions are [allowed to be] asked.
Even if the tabloid press didn’t contact her (which is hard to credit, knowing how the vultures work), the weight of her actions being reported so massively and so disparagingly must have been a hard burden for her to bear.
And for one the blame that falls on the royal family is incidental. It could have been any major celebrity being picked on. We still need a republic though.

First thought on hearing the tape was that the 2 ladies concerned would be subject to disciplinary action by the Hospital…who now say, there was no intention in this respect. As the poster above says we should not necessarily disbelieve them but it’s unlikely to have gone without some form of internal enquiry at least. Secondly, on hearing the tragic news, what subsequent events or outside factors pushed her to such extreme action. As others have observed, the inquest may reveal, & lets hope it does uncover the full facts.
One of the issues for KE Hospital is what instructions or briefings were given to staff by managers in terms of dealing with enquiries when a member of The Royal Family was being treated?
It is one thing pointing the finger at the radio station, but what guidance was given to hospital staff?
I expect “close family members only” …that would be standard procedure. This particular hospital is very used to dealing with the Royal Family & probably have some differing protocol in place though.

Use the ‘net radio stations. Lausanne FM has a good music mix, FOX and others in the US are not to the left, and you can learn a lot about UK culture and current affairs from them.

She comes across British cultura all the time, but not on the BBC. What she is looking for is an unbiased radio station which reflects the culture and affairs of Britain through its content.
IIRC there is a Dennis Quaid film where he has a radio that can hear transmissions from 30 years ago.

US National Public Radio, which is not state funded, is somewhat good talk radio and intelligent. This is center-left, but the left aspect is much milder than what is being pumped here. Only reference the north american stations as personally much more interested in international news to find out what the UK is up to that is not being broadcast here.
It would actually be great if someone could set up a broadcaster which could cater for the audience you are describing though – ie. content non-political or perhaps center right, intelligent talk, balanced news coverage and focused on UK culture and real issues – the state broadcaster is failing dismally in this respect.

The two Aussie dipsticks and their radio station should receive an industrial strength smacking if there was any real justice, but we should be clear what part the press in this country played, if any, on applying pressure on this women. It would also be useful to know what was said to this women by her employers. Hopefully a formal inquest will reveal this,although nobody in the Catesby household is holding their breath.
