Tom Watson’s Prank Call Nurse Press Smears Unravel

Over the last few days the Hacked Off brigade have been desperate for it to emerge that the prank call nurse had been contacted by hacks before she took her own life. Evan Harris salivated on Saturday:

Tom Watson even went as far as directly accusing journalists of “spooking” the woman, despite the fact they did not know her name:

Now the Press Complaints Commission have poured water on the press-haters’ wet dream. Lord Hunt told MPs earlier:

MP: “Was nurse hounded by press before she took her life?”
LH: “I don’t think so”

Yet another one in the eye for Watson. He’s not having a good run of it lately…

Hospital says no disciplinary action taken etc. No reason to disbelieve them. Other staff will likely whistle blow at some point if there is anything seriously iffy there.

The prank call, was a prank. Everything after that was the crime. What was wrong was the media use of it to harass the poor nurse. Even if she was not dead it would still be exploitation of an individual.

Even the radio station tries to claim it wanted permission, so it knew what is required. By saying it tried and then went ahead and released the tape anyway, shows they are the cause.

To use the recording to humiliate is the issue in this country. There is no power given to UK trusts or charities to humiliate or harass individuals.

As an individual that is still being publicly defamed by this government I know it is impossible to fight to clear your name. Once a trust is set up it has no democratic controls and becomes lawless.

It is time this government actually took some responsibility for functions that are paid for by taxes.

To be fair, it would be common practice to interview a nurse involved in something like this in NHS Hospitals, as patient confidentiality is taken very seriously. So i would imagine the same applies in the private sector. Its fascinating the way other (completely innocent ) people are now being drawn in to this situation,The Hospital, its chairman,Prince Phillip, Jeremy Hunt,Prince William ,and MI5.I hope the morons really responsible are sacked.

    'Suicide' watch says:

    The facts are:

Circumstantial: as you point out, statistically would weight the odds against suicide. However, circumstantial is just that, not proof either way.

Actual: Police have classified ‘unexplained’ and ‘no foul play’. Meaning, no suicide note found, no obvious sign as to what caused death (eg. Hanging), and no obvious sign of third party involvement at the scene of death.

She was discovered unconscious, not dead. ‘Unexplained’ classification leaves the way open for full investigation pending outcome of inquest.

There were many people who did not do their jobs that are actually the cause. It is a general UK malaise that everyone claims it is not in their job description to be responsible for anything. Trustees claim no control, management claim no control.

Making it unlawful for religious organisations or their ministers to marry same-sex couples unless their organisation’s governing body has expressly opted in to provisions for doing so

US National Public Radio, which is not state funded, is somewhat good talk radio and intelligent. This is center-left, but the left aspect is much milder than what is being pumped here. Only reference the north american stations as personally much more interested in international news to find out what the UK is up to that is not being broadcast here.

It would actually be great if someone could set up a broadcaster which could cater for the audience you are describing though – ie. content non-political or perhaps center right, intelligent talk, balanced news coverage and focused on UK culture and real issues – the state broadcaster is failing dismally in this respect.

If she had died of a heart attack due to the stress would it be any different?
    – Proving heart failure due to stress will be tricky. If it can be proven will need investigation: employer most likely in the frame, unless there was some other factor at play – repeated looping on media unlikely: It is not even known if the individual was even paying attention to the media.

If she was still alive how many days would they have repeated that recording for?
    – Likely only a couple until the news cycle moved on. Why it was being repeated ad nauseum in the first place is a good separate question. This was not in the public interest.

How many of her “friends” would have been harassed to find other stories of her trusting nature?
    – That has not happened so irrelevant speculation / question.

Where is the line? Or is any individual just fodder for others peoples profit.
    – Irrelevant question.

It should be noted that ‘suicide’ conjecture and ‘stress’ / ‘emotional instability’ circumstantial has been either projected by the media, or supplied to the media for projection by as yet unidentified sources.

Not sure which outlet first identified suicide, but it was not the police. Death certificate has not been issued yet so at present there is only unexplained death – no suicide.

The two Aussie dipsticks and their radio station should receive an industrial strength smacking if there was any real justice, but we should be clear what part the press in this country played, if any, on applying pressure on this women. It would also be useful to know what was said to this women by her employers. Hopefully a formal inquest will reveal this, although nobody in the Catesby household is holding their breath. In the meantime, one can only wish for peace for her family. What a shit world we live in!

They DJ’s are stupid ‘n purile. When reality comes a calling it hits ‘em like a flying brick and they’ve done a lot of growing up this week.
The nurse?…well, she was ashamed at being made to look a fool. Dishonoured in front of her family and colleagues.

    Yep…seems about right.

The hospital was rumoured to have arranged a board meeting this week!
Seems that the nurse was gonna be interviewed…one does doubt it was to hear about a pay rise!

Of course when they made their..’She is getting support’ comment it was probably because they had not actually bollocked her at that time so they could pretend otherwise.
A private hospital does not like bad publicity…they would have been looking for a scape goat to wipe their eggy faces on.
Not a word about why a nurse had to answer the phone at 5.30 am!
A private hospital without a adequate switch board…not looking good!

As for the radio shock jock company…well…they got a drubbing twice before and retained their broadcast license apparently by the skin of their teeth, all bets are off now cos if the death of a woman, who was the butt of one of their brain dead japes, does not close them down it would be hard to work out what would?

As for those dozy DJ’s…I don’t know…dumb kids used as a shield by a dubious company and their gaggle of dipwad lawyers I should think!

I think the hospital is to blame and you will also find that they threatened or made her life very hard following the incident, also the husband may be involved as i doubt he was very supportive and for a mother to take her own life her home life must have been hell for a long long time, just waiting for hubby to announce he is suing someone….

Re Keith Vaz. I believe the nurse’s husband rang him. He is convener of the Home Office Select Committee or something or other, after all. If contacted in this way, surely he would feel obliged to do what he could, even if it did put him in the limelight… which doubtless he loves. I’m not a great fan of KV, but if that is so, I guess he did the right thing.

George Galloway says of his former Respect candidate the UKIP MEP turned Tory, Amjad Bashir…

“Clearly Bashir does not have any real political principles or commitment, only naked opportunism and self-interest. He represents the revolving door principle in politics. The Tories are welcome to him because he will cause them embarrassment. Fortunately Respect was able to act before he did it to us.”
