How Wind Farm Owners Are Ripping Us Off

A great piece of digging coming up in this week’s Speccie. Green businesses have been taking part in a scam known as ‘de-rating’, deliberately producing less energy than they are capable of in order to cash in on disincentivising government subsidies. With low-energy wind turbines given almost double the subsidy of their high-power alternatives in order to encourage new businesses to enter the market, owners of giant wind farms have been running their turbines at half capacity so they can trouser the top rate.

DECC are aware of the scam but have yet to do anything about it…

As usual the bloody useless, incompetent state allows its taxpayers to be scammed by far more hard-working people than work for it.

And then socialist scum why people want less state and more private enterprise. What incentive is there for anyone working for the state to get value for taxpayers money?

      Eee-I Ee-I O
And on that farm he had a subsidised Wiind Turbine

        Quiet Bat Person says:

Here’s how farming generally works for you and the landed classes:

You -> VAT -> EU -> Wind Farm & CAP subsidies -> The Rich

Hoons who are rich and landed because their ancestors were on William the Conqueror’s side, or nicked the people’s land through the Enclosure Acts.

As you can see, benefits, er, I mean, subsidies, are essential for people who own land, as without the money the land would evaporate. It’s hard work, surveying all that you own, y’know.

          The Justice of the Peace

          Distinguish carefully between these two,

This thing is yours, that other thing is mine.

You have a shirt, a brimless hat, a shoe

And half a coat. I am the Lord benign

Of fifty hundred acres of fat land

To which I have a right. You understand?

I have a right because I have, because,

Because I have, because I have a right.

Now be quite calm and good, obey the laws,

Remember your low station, do not fight

Against the goad, because, you know, it pricks

          Whenever the uncleanly demos kicks.

I do not envy you your hat, your shoe.

Why should you envy me my small estate?

          It’s fearfully illogical of you

To fight with economic force and fate.

Moreover, I have got the upper hand,

And mean to keep it. Do you understand?

Twerp. What about family run farms? We might be doing OK but certainly not making a fortune. Some smaller farmers going under. Large farms run by companies. DO get into the 21st century or even the 20th!!

          its tough out there says:

and as a farmer you’ve no business rates, subsidised diesel, no VED on farm vehicles, privileged planning permits for house building, inheritance tax benefits

you then pay a tax accountant (tax-farmer), with the tax-payers money to book accounting losses whilst assuring the revenue that you are, prospectively, profitable

then you send out the wife to ‘work’ and offset your ‘losses’ against tax she (perish the thought) might have paid

PLUS the solar panel site (paid for regressively by lower income groups)and the wind farms

all this and more because – you say – you can’t stand on your own 3 feet

Bollocks. I’ve stood on a hilltop in Crete and the wind was so strong that I had to cling to the trig point to remain standing. The wind turbines on neighbouring hills were merrily whizzing round quite happily.

    Not just windfarms.
Since the 1950s there have been very successful hydro electric schemes in Scotland. When the equipment came up for renewal they installed smaller generators in order to get the top rate usually reserved for small schemes. We get less electricity generated. They get more money!
