As You Were: Mitchell Says He Was Being an Ironic Sexist Pig

Channelling Michael Winner when being accused of sexism? It’s as if Austin Mitchell was trying to make it worse

The other A Mitchell should have used the I was only joking line…

UPDATE: Labour say:

“Austin Mitchell has made clear the tweet was a joke not a serious comment. It is not funny, understandable people find it offensive, and it is not the view of the Labour Party.”

What is Ed Millionairebland doing today?

Oh yes, calling for the heads of those who belittle others in public.

But as ever tribal Labour will close ranks around Mitchell – sexist Old Labour jerk.

Yes Labour make their own rules. How many millions does Ed Miliband have again?

    He's a bellend says:

Austin Mitchell is still alive? Christ on a bike. He belongs to the Tony Banks era of Labour: loud and obnoxious but zero substance or intellect. Actually, come to think of it, that’s Labour now as well.

      genghiz the kahn says:

If he wants to tweet, let him do so without censorship. If you don’t like what the guy stands for, vote him out. If you are in favour of free expression, then don’t try to close him down because he has dissed one of Cameron’s ex A listers.

    Kebab Time says:

Dont worry, am sure Ed Miliband will call for a independent judge led inquiry into this!

Whereas Mensch feels Mitchell isn’t important enough to apologise on his own, she wants an apology from someone he knows who didn’t tweet, to enhance her sense of self-worth.

    supremely witty…cleverly ironic

Even if by accident, that is a first for Austin.

it was blatantly a joke – I hate labour like any sane person, but it’s silly and dangerous to have a go at them for being ironic.

    Mrs. Barefoot and Pregnant says:

Labour have enough trouble attracting the womens vote anyway with Miliband and Balls as their pin ups.

Mitchell is the true face of Labour when it comes to attitudes towards women.

And remember – Lady Thatcher was PM over 3 decades ago – Labour STILL have not even considered a women leader.

Harriet Harperson, you know where to find me. says:

Scandalous. I have been in the front line of the Labour Party for some years now and I am far better looking than any other front bencher in my party.
      Why am I not leader?
      Oh go away Jack.

Barbara Castle was the female front runner in British politics for decades before Thatcher – in effect she paved the way for women in politics, including Thatcher.

Ed Balls stretches credulity by claiming he isn’t ambitious

“I would love to be part of Ed’s Labour government but what I do next for me is not an all-consuming passion. I’m more bothered, in a personal sense, about getting to grade 8 piano by the time I’m 50.”
