Halifax MP Skims £1,000-a-Month in Rent-Swap Fiddle

The names are coming out. The names of MPs fiddling the system to maximise their expenses by renting their mortgaged property out so that they can then rent another property with the taxpayers picking up the bills for both. Say goodbye at the next election to Linda Riordan, the Labour MP for Halifax, not satisfied with earning three times as much as her constituents she employs her partner in her office on £42,500. Pushing their take from the taxpayer over the £100,000-a-year level.

That just isn’t enough for this little piggie, she rents out her London flat to another MP and skims off an extra £1,000-a-month in profit from the taxpayer, charging a rent of £1,560 on a property where her mortgage costs her some £500-a-month. She also claims £1,473 from the taxpayer to pay the rent for her own property. The combined £3,000 monthly claim represents an extra burden on the taxpayer which would not have been necessary had Riordan not contrived her tenancy. Housing benefits fraudsters go to jail for less.

UPDATE: Linda Riordan is a member of the hard left Socialist Campaign Group.

Her friend Helen Goodman MP thinks Guido is motivated by sexism:

Incidentally, we’re working on more names – mostly male- from all parties…

        Erm… “public money”?

I think that’s a euphemism for appropriated private money. You see, “Orwell’s ghost”, don’t let anybody know this, it’s just our secret, right….. but the “Government”, the NHS, the BBC, all of the other government/ public funded bodies…. come closer, I’ll whisper…. don’t HAVE any money! I know, it’s a fucking shock, isn’t it!? They only have private money, paid as tax from private sources!

So putting “public money in private hands” is really just putting it back where it was taken from in the first place…. but hey, socialists and economics… it’s not just a purple mystery, more of a Brown history.

As for scumbags – look no further than the LieBore benches.

How true, this is why the Tory Party needs to be won back for real Conservative values, UKIP are not going to form a government nor do i trust them more than any other bunch of seld interested politico toss pots. BUT they will f_ck over the twats running the show now and that is the point. Get Cameron and that bunch of Toff Tossers out and lets get in some new blood that knows about graft and enterprise and puts British (or at least English) concerns first.
A term of Millibean or another load of Cameron just means moving the trough to the other side of the shed both will sell you down the road to the EU. Get rid of Cameron by destroying his whole project and THEN you win real change in the Tory Party. Tory since 79 but not in 2015 I’d sooner lost that battle and then win the long war.

Toff used to be a jogular and derernential term with a little edge to it, I’ve got no issue with elites we need them, but only when they can do the job. As for Labour they they are one election away from extinction. The Tory party needs to fought for and it then needs to fight for this country. We’ve got the wrong Toffs that is the problem.

Politics has been reduced to worthless posturing along the lines of, Labour say we need to build 1000 new wind generators a month, the Conservatives say no, no, that is far too many, we need 800, the LD’s then pop up with a compromise of 900 and so they fudge along.

At no stage do they offer any alternative, it’s as if none exist, when we all know they do.

I don’t see what the fuss is about MPs renting properties to other MPs. As I understand it, this is expressly allowed by the rules. Why does it make any difference whether their tenant is an MP or a bus driver? If the suggestion were that above-market rents were being paid in order to fleece the taxpayer, that would obviously be highly objectionable. But I have not seen that allegation made.

What does seem odd is MPs being entitled to claim expenses for renting a property in London when they themselves own a property there which they could perfectly well live in. But this has no particular connection to the “MPs renting to MPs” story. It applies whoever an MP’s tenant is.

“There is more sexism in Britain than in any other country in the world, according to a mad woman who has been sent here by the United Nations.
