Twitter Media Bitch Fight: Mehdi v the World

It all kicked off over the weekend as poor old Mehdi Hasan waded into the great abortion debate. Having the gall to out himself as a pro-lifer meant, for the first time ever, he was soon experiencing the full wrath of the twitter left.

Things got pretty heated between Mehdi and some prominent lefties:

Guido isn’t quite sure how calling Knowles a “pompous twerp” squares with Mehdi’s no ad hominem attacks policy…

Maybe he can raise it with Penny & Polly etc in the BBC Green room, as Aunty’s blogs (or those in her defence at CiF, New Statesman, etc) seem pretty chokker with just such variable standards. It’s a ‘unique’ thing, apparently.

Mind you, looking at what he’s advocating, and who he’s crossing swords with as a consequence, he may be off the Newsnight Editorial Eid card list anyway.

Of course, that might change soon, too.

    Tuscan Tony says:

Left wing/redistributionist politics are all about as reality based as Lord of the Rings and to analyse them is as relevant as debating the merits of orcs over dwarves or the efficacy of a wizard’s staff.

This is a bloke who loves ‘the prophet’ more than his children so clearly a rational, progessive type then: http://hurryupharry.org/2012/10/12/aaro-v-mehdi/

‘Mr Aaronovitch told the hall it was simply not practical to be offended in a world where social media allows offensive views to circulate with virulent intensity.

“I simply cannot afford to be offended every time someone retweets something obnoxious,” he said.

“People need to get a thicker skin.”’

        Ditto!

Did MH say he ‘loves the prophet’ more than his children, though, or just use the quote? He’s denied before that quotes he’s used during discussions reflect his personal views.

You have to be a Tory in order to be called a “pompous and patronizing twerp”.

    Otherwise you remain a pleb.

    Tay King-dePisse says:

“Yeah, but he started it!” You just know that’s the kind of thing our Mehdi would say, as that’s always the justification for Leftie hypocrisy. “Why should I play by the rules if the other side won’t?” Hasan probably figures that his integrity, such as it is, having been impugned, all bets are off and so are the gloves. But at least he adheres to Heinlein’s Razor– he attributes it to stupidity and not malice. At least give him that.

P@dohilia is a sexual perversion. Socialism is a political perversion. Both are about power over other people. Both groups should be shot in the back of the head and charged for the bullet.

Every time he’s on LBC radio I switch on him off and alongside that other crazy woman Yasmine alibhai Brown: Politically appeasement over Iran and Syria what more else’s there but abortion knowing full well that the subject area in itself is like a hot potato but that doesn’t stop him from sinking into a vat of churned pork grease . Very difficult when you’re coming from an Islamic background to actually support the right of termination to be quite honest with you, But that hasn’t stopped him from trying his best to fathom the subject. He is tending to sound like master Owen Jones somewhat.

Scratch a libertarian, find a right-wing statist says:

Of course he’s anti-freedom on this issue, as on any other. Mehdi is a slavering religionist even before he wants to use the state to maintain his own privilege.

    JBones says:

A dissenting voice about one issue provokes rabid invective and insults from his fellow wing nuts. That’s the liberal Twitterati for you. Sickening.

“I would love to be part of Ed’s Labour government but what I do next for me is not an all-consuming passion. I’m more bothered, in a personal sense, about getting to grade 8 piano by the time I’m 50.”
