Am I alone in thinking that the four day non-stop live coverage of this tragic matter by Sky News is verging on the ghoulish? Cameras everywhere, banal and pointless “expert” comment and obtrusive interviews.
Really, it is getting in the way of the investigation and can hardly assist any process of justice in court.

Generally I prefer Sky News to the BBC nowadays and their presenters are “ok”, but Kay Burly truly is the exception. She plays the “oh but I’m just a ditzy girl” card all the time, which is pathetic for a woman in her 50s and an insult to decent female journalists.

Burley and co have outstayed their welcome and their coverage is mawkish and embarrassing. Mind you, not as embarrassing as watching that Dyfed Powis policeman taking half an hour to launch his dinghy to get across the river a couple of days ago…. You could almost hear the Sky cameraman tittering as he kept the camera on PC Plod’s clumsy attempts. A good laugh, but relevant to the search for a 5 year old? Me neither.

YES.
He is NOT CHARGED. Therefore on the first arrest of Suspicion of Abduction he has been held and questions as long as the law allows. If this do not charge him with Abduction then they must release him.
So what to the do. They new ‘arrest’ him (still in custody) in Suspicion of Murder. This gives them extra time to hold and question the suspect.
It means nothing more significant than that.
Clearly the police have no evidence of any kind or the suspect would have been charged by now.
Classic case of a provincial police force panicking under media/community pressure to make an arrest and stick with it despite lack of evidence.
I would not be at all surprised if this suspect was freed (life ruined) for lack of evidence and the real perpetrator is never found.

I have not quite got what Sky bosses see in her. She always seems a bit vacant. He performance is stilted and not quite sincere. On the latter I don’t think it is deliberate more than it just her. She should be relieved off the afternoon slot and moved to one offs and specials shown at odd hours.

Except Guido has not put up the full video and in full context. Basically she was talking to Martin Blunt who was telling her that the family had been told last night that it was now a murder inquiry and the God mother was stood next to Martin waiting to be interviewed. Everyone there thought she knew.
Seen in context it was a very difficult misunderstanding but that is all it was.

Now Guido has put up the full clip it is obvious that Burley has done nowt wrong. This has been blown out of all proportion by the usual Murdoch haters such as the Guardianistas and Tom Watson.
It wasn’t even the Godmother but a volunteer searcher who for some reason had not heard the news that the police were standing down all volunteers as it was now a murder inquiry.

Oh come on. Burnley was not aware that this woman didn’t know when she started the interview. The cruel thing would have been not to tell her. She’d already listened to Martin Brunt so she knew what was coming and could easily declined to be interviewed. I really do fail to see what Burley has done wrong.
People like Watson and the Guardian are trying to make political capital about the possible murder of a little girl, now that IS wrong.

A crass and insensitive remark to make in the circumstances. Much more importantly, there seems to be a growing and unfortunate tendency in this country in tragic cases such as this one, where the greatest care should be taken in naming names and releasing ‘information’, not least, if such action may lead to prejudicing and subsequent legal proceedings. The police also bear a heavy responsibility.
