Frankie Slashes Civil Service Pay

IPPR have been given a taster of what Francis Maude will be expecting of them this morning. New figures show that the number of civil servants earning over £150,000 has fallen dramatically in the last twelve months. The salary bill for senior government officials has been slashed by 18%, saving some £9 million. The civil servant who raked in the most cash was Olympics boss Dennis Hone, who pocketed £315,000 for his troubles. The 234 still share almost £50 million between them…

Hang on, top civil servants get nearly double the PMs salary?

Thats is just so wrong! Cut harder and faster Frankie!

But has the total number of civil servants fallen?

    Yes. Encouraging figures at

But it says that the decline in numbers started in 2005, which is odd.

  6. 6

But how many “consultants” etc are on contracts that give them similar remuneration?

Don’t spoil a good story – I’d like to believe that a fuckwit like Maude was making a difference.

  12. 12
    a gullible cun*t says:

    That could never happen.

  13. 13
    JH says:

    It’s our fault.

If British men were not so fucking gelded by 40 years of left wing fuckwittery, this lot would get their scrawny arses handed to them every time they tried this on.

But that would be wacist wouldn’t it.

  14. 14
    Belt says:

So that’s 234 too many then. I would hardly consider that a success.

    Is Frankie mad?

  15. 15
    a gullible cun*t says:

    Not really.

Numbers of Civil Servants and numbers paid out of public funds are very different.

Try looking at numbers employed by Arms Length Bodies for starters.

Lucky that fuckwit Maude has had such a successful bonfire of the quangos.

  16. 16

    Selohesra says:

PMs dont do it for the money – they do it for the ego and in any case if you value their pension & free accommodation the PMs pay isnt too bad. I have no problem with people earning £150K+ if they are worth it – a lot in private sector earn those sort of sums but there should certainly be more benchmarking and competition introduced for top civil service roles

Pity he hasn’t got a brain between his ears.

    Piers's mate's mate says:

No. not slashed; paid to go.

Gradually, the numbers will creep up again. (That’s how they got to be so big last time. And the time before. And…)

So when the numbers have crept back up, add the cost of the pay-offs from this time and overall we’re worse off then we would have been if everything was left alone.

Dolts. (Now there’s a word you won’t have seen for a while.)

  26. 26
    JH says:

    ‘Worth it’

They would be ‘worth it’ for one reason only, that they saved the taxpayer many multiples of what they are paid by increasing efficiency and lowering costs. But they don’t do that, in fact they are hell bent on doing exactly the opposite.

Who cares if people are paid highly paid in the private sector? People on those sums have to compete, and they have to prove they are worth it or they get sacked.

People in public sector sinecures are insulated from the concepts in italic by a steady flow of other people’s money and rhetorical union bullshit.

  27. 27
    Sir William Waad says:

I’m less worried about how much they’re paid than about whether they are any good. The evidence from such capers as the NHS IT system, fire station centralisation and defence procurement suggests otherwise.

In the public sector people are paid in accordance to the budget they are in charge of. The bigger their budget, the more pay senior officials get.

There is absolutely no incentive to cut budgets or costs, indeed, various ways of increasing budgets and thus senior management pay, are constantly being dreamed up.
Ever wondered why these people embrace such lunacy as wind power, when far more efficient and inexpensive alternatives abound?
Simple, grossly expensive projects, mean more and more money for senior officials, because of their increased budgetary ‘responsiblity’.

  34. 34
    Bob Diamond Standard says:

“How can it be write that they can earns almost 20 times me” – well for a start they hopefully know the difference between write and right. If they earn 20 times what you earn that means you are on 7,500. Frankly I’d pack in the job and go on benefits you would be better off.

No. In the private sector people who piss away copious sums tend to get found out get the sack, not a promotion. Sure, there is currently a bubble in executive remuneration which is going to be brutally punctured and rightly so.

Quite why the public sector feel they ‘deserve’ equivalent pay and benefits to a notional – spectacularly successful – private sector company escapes me.

  57. 57
    Axe The Telly Tax says:

    Is that a LibDem graph?

Starting the graph at 200 makes it look like a huge reduction of some 300%, due to the relative sizes of the bars, when in actual fact the reduction is only 40%.

The graph should start at 0 or the bars should be scaled properly.

Boris on British Jihadis. Apparently based on MI5 intel:

“If you look at all the psychological profiling about bombers, they typically will look at porn. They are literally w***ers. Severe onanists. They are tortured. They will be very badly adjusted in their relations with women, and that is a symptom of their feeling of being failures and that the world is against them. They are not making it with girls, and so they turn to other forms of spiritual comfort — which of course is no comfort.”
