Guardian Retracts Another Israel Blunder

The Guardian have been forced to issue a climb down this morning after claiming that the capital of Israel is Tel Aviv, rather than Jerusalem. The paper initially sought to defend the ridiculous claim, before finally backing down:

It’s like there is a pattern to all this

      Rag Ed says:

But why do you read the Guardian Giuido? No one else other than BBC types does.

      • 35
        Spartacus says:

Next they will be saying that Glasgow is not the Capital of Scotland.

      • 62
        2112 says:

He reads it so we don’t have to.

        • 73
          Jimmy says:

In related news the Israeli government has corrected the error by which the old city was placed inside its borders. They accept this was incorrect and have apologised for any inconvenience caused.

          • Larry of Araby says:

You’re right on one thing Jummy, Jerusalem *is* an old city. Preexistent to Islam, it was in antiquity and remains today the capital for a people whose habitation and culture from ancient times is very much in in evidence all over the land. Curious their being there at all so exercises the Graun and so many on the Left.

      Whippersnapper2 says:

Have noticed the initials of the number one bitch in Britain. Her middle name is not Mary perchance is it?

  2. 2
    Polly Toynbee says:

    Are we all messhugah ?

    Ov Vey Maria !

  3. 3
    will says:

dont worry the guardian and the BBC are now disappointed that the games has been a hugh sucess and the team has done well. The BBC local news is constantly trying to put a downer on things by portraying stay away london etc. The left wanted this all to go horribly wrong but in true british style we have so far manage to pull off a good games and portray britian in a good light which will result in more tourists coming to london.

    • 13
      Laughing hangman says:

The huggy bunny treasonous lefties will NEVER understand the British and their attitude, but there again they think their attitude is wrong.

Lefties crawl back under the stone you came from and take the BBC and The Gruainiad with you as you dislike the light of freedom and democracy, oh and please take Clegg et al with you

    • 39
      Hugh Sucess says:

      Did someone call my name?

      Anonymous says:

Will, can you be a litle more specific re the likely numbers of “illegals” included in your
      “more” assessment?
I only ask because I read today that 7 of the Camaroon

    • 60
      Anonymous says:

Will,I don’t mind them coming but they may decide to stay here. That I do mind.
BTW; I read today that 7 members of the Olympic games squad representing the Cameroons have dis-appeared from the Olympic village over the weekend.
The first of many do you think?

  4. 4
    Dan Hoolihan says:

Am i the only one who couldn´t care less about Israel or Palestine?

    • 6
      HenryV says:

No. Never met an Israeli I haven’t liked.

      • 11
        Dan Hoolihan says:

        What about a Palestinian?

        • 58
History's biggest stage production in the theatre of victimhood says:

What about all those poor old Sudetens in Germany and all those abject Lwowians in Poland. Palestinians are a cast of Jordanian and Egyptian extras play-acting since 1967 in order to keep the jihad chugging along. The EU pays their wages and the neighbouring Arab sates make sure they can’t get alternative employment.

      • 34
        Hava Nagila says:

Never met an Israeli who didn’t have a massive attitutde problem.

        • 37
          Laughing hangman says:

          or a palastinian.

        • 80
          Larry of Araby says:

In Henry V’s time most of the ‘Palestinians’ would still have been back at home.

        • 86
          Sylvie says:

how many have you met? And think carefully as to why Israelis might be entitled to a ‘massive attitude problem’. If you had been attacked, threatened and persecuted almost into non-existence, you might also have a problem. Well, perhaps you do?

    • 25
      Backwoodsman says:

Well, one is a vibrant , modern society, with equal rights for women and gays , and the other is a damning indictment of a religion that hasn’t evolved since the 7th century , and kept in that state largely to suit the geopolitical ambitions of its co-religionists.
Apart from that there’s nothing to choose between them.

    • 28
      The Coventry Tourist Board says:

If we ignore them all, maybe they will go away.

  5. 5
Patronising Polly, the oversized Figurehead nailed to the Prow of The Grauniad says:

I see where we’re going – and look out for trouble

  6. 7
    Lord Rothermere says:

I was best friends with Hitler and Mussolini.

    • 32
      Pop Psychologist says:

Neither of those chaps had friends as such, so Lord Rothermere must have been deluded.

    • 46
      Really? says:

      So was the Guardian.

You should always dig a little deeper than lefties want you to. You uncover all manner of uncomfortable truths regarding the comrades and the friends they would rather you not talk about.

  7. 8
    rustbridger says:

I chose Tel Aviv because Jerusalem always gives me an hearty choke

  8. 9
    tottenham Chutzpah says:

    So its not Hampstead?

  9. 10
    Jimmy says:

The Guardian and The BBC progressively evisen the Socialist Palestinian Caliphate. And quite right too. It will happen.

  10. 12
    Moussa Koussa says:

Guido ” Friend of Israel” Fawkes.

    Keep up the bad work

  11. 15
    Nokia'd says:

This advert is offering a “Free personality test”. I wonder what result Gordon Brown would get.

  12. 22
    Bob Diamond says:

Does Israel have any good banks I can work for?

  13. 23
    Desperate Dan says:

Guido publishes another boring Israel story.

  14. 30
    Bogeyman says:

Why is anyone surprised Al-Ja-Grauniad has a downer on our Semitic brethren? They tend to be independent minded, make a success of their lives and not stir up trouble. If they went around in skirts and tea towels, put on a dab of the old tanning lotion and shouted about their rights all day, Al-Graun would be all over them.

    • 38
      Laughing hangman says:

Socialists hate people who look after themselves, support their own communities and follow the law.

    • 43
      Only in the Graun says:

They also do a very good line in self-deprecating comedy.

I’m sure there are muslim commedians but they seem to have passed me by.

      Anonymous says:

      “not stir up trouble”??

that’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all year

  15. 36
    David "Moishe" Cameron says:

In recognition of this wonderful thread,i have instructed that the post box nearest to Guido be painted gold.

  16. 42
    MrAngry61 says:

The Graun has been calling Tel Aviv Israel’s capital for quite a while now. CiFWatch has occasional summaries of incorrect articles.

  17. 44
    Rabbi Chaim Gunnar Kutsher-Dickov says:

Such a good boy, a chasid ummot ha-olam! We can always count on Guido! Even if all he’s doing is to defend Israel to take the piss out of the Grauniad, it’s still a mitzvah! You should take the piss out of them just on general principle alone, but to do it for Eretz Yisroel– oy, I’m kvelling for Guido, a true friend of the Jooish people!

  18. 45
Gutle Schnaper (Mayer Amschel's wife) says:

You’re all WRONG! It’s not even called Isis RA El, that’s pagan gods! It’s named after my lovely hubby, Rothschildlandia and it’s capital is of course “R”. Mayer wanted to call it Dublin (because then his Capital would always be ‘dublin’), but that was taken!

  19. 50
I don't like Tony Blair and Gordon Brown either says:

I’m a leftie. Am I welcome to comment here?

  20. 52
    Juliet F. Samuel says:

    Who cares?

  21. 54
    chriselee says:

Anyone know where Palestine is,can’t find it on the map.
I guess there’s no such country.

    • 65
      Anonymous says:

Palestine? A country? Never was, isn’t now, & if it ever does become one it will be a sh*thole populated largely by sh*t people with a mindset from the distant past.

An ideal place for Mehdi Has*n. He would feel very comfortable there.

        Thoughts in the wind says:

Named after an ancient tribe – the Filisteen (from the Arabic).

Nowadays, though, Philistine has a completely different meaning – as those at the beeb and Grundina will know.

      • 88
        Sylvie says:

It is one of those ‘magic’ places, like Never-Never Lane, or the place where Santa Claus lives (I’m too old to remember what it is called). But the UN will grant the ‘Felastinians’ a seat in September, and now that poor President Assad has to step down from the Committee of Human Rights (I kid you not), then patient President Abbas can take his place (he’s the one with the degree in Holocaust denial, remember?) So you can see how the fairy stories keep coming. You might have to censor them for children though.

    UKIP UNITED !! says:

Another example of forked tongue Dave going on about promises !!

CMD, aka The real Heir to Bliar, who’s every word CMD worships…….

interview on LBC this morning where CMD is taken to task by Lady Voter,

its just bloody marvellous with this mendacious, two faced shi*t, what promises he choses to keep & the ones to UK Voters he just ignores, after all we don’t matter……….

lets show him & the rest of ConsLieLaborLibDems Manipulative Alliance what we think of them, sooner rather later…….

  23. 56
    Moussa Koussa says:

Fair enough, school boy error by the Guardian, referring to Jerusalem as the capitol. Not exactly earth shattering.

Better than Daily Mong and Daily Express who suck the c*ck of the Neo Con Nuts of Israel on a daily basis.

Oh dear…I supposed I’m going to be kidnapped now.

  24. 68
    Whippersnapper2 says:

The G******* is a nasty anti-Semitic rag which is akin to Beobachter in Hitler’s 1930s.
Having never bought a copy in in life ever I had a wonderful cathartic moment about 6 months ago and deleted them from my FREE browser.
The G******* has permanently been close to bankruptcy for years and is only supported by the Scott trust and cash from Auto Trader. Over the last 2 financial years they lost close to 200,000 quid and thousands of readers.
Work it out for yourself…..the bailiffs are hovering as even the long suffering Scott family Trust are now pissed off. When you go to sleep tonight jst think of PT(how suitable) in a dole queue outside the BBC offices in Manchester. I hear that the Italian holiday homes market has sunk without trace.

  25. 75
    Thoughts in the wind says:

I have just been watching an American prog on the History entitled “10 things you don’t know about the Mormons”.

The distinguished historian who presents the programme asserts that the Mormons were originally Joooish exiles – and apparently it says so in their “bible”, the Book of Mormon.

So now you know Mitt Romney is a Mormon djuw.

  26. 82
    Amounderness Lad says:

Weren’t the Gaurdain, along with the BBC, amongst those of similar ilk who were busy scoffing at Mitt Romney and claiming he was so stupid for calling Jerusalem the Capital of Israel when they were so brilliant for knowing it was really Tel Aviv? And weren’t they also busy pointing out that his so called gaff showed he had no idea about Foreign Affairs because his alleged gaff had badly damaged any influence America might have in the Middle East if he became President?

What it really shows is just how far their bias and propaganda goes when it comes to reporting on matters that do not follow their script.

  27. 83
    jax says:

Oh God those lefty nutters and their international law and basic human rights, they’re gonna. Turn us into China! Damn red commie bastatds

  28. 84

It’s worth noting that this Guardian correction was achieved as a result of legal action initiated by HonestReporting against the Press Complaints Commission that had originally ruled in favour of The Guardian’s claim of Tel Aviv as Israel’s capital.

The Guardian was forced to retract after the PCC overturned its original ruling under threat of a judicial review.

You can find more details here –

The Economist asks Tony Blair about Wendi Deng:

“Mr Blair roundly denies any impropriety. Asked whether he was (at least) careless about his reputation, he says calmly that it is “not something I will ever talk about—I haven’t and I won’t”, and then bangs his coffee cup so loudly into its saucer that it spills and everyone in the room jumps. But did he find himself in a tangle over his friendship with Ms Deng? A large, dark pool of sweat has suddenly appeared under his armpit, spreading across an expensive blue shirt. Even Mr Blair’s close friends acknowledge that the saga damaged him—not least financially, since Mr Murdoch stopped contributing to Mr Blair’s faith foundation and cut him off from other friendly donors in America.”
