Sun Mensch Scoop Pinch

Anyone on Twitter at 9am this morning would be forgiven for thinking that the Louise Mensch resignation story was a fantastic scoop for the Sun. That’s what they were claiming, anyway:

The only problem is that it wasn’t a Sun exclusive at all. Half an hour before that tweet was sent the departing Corby MP telephoned local Northamptonshire Telegraph reporter Katie Cronin to give her the story. Cronin was the first journalist to learn the news, and Mensch confirmed that it was her exclusive. The Northants Telegraph was also first to report that Mensch was considering quitting in October 2011; she told the paper then that being an MP was “a giant strain on family life, so I am going to have to think long and hard about what I do at the next general election“. You’re either in front of the Northants Telegraph…

Will not be missed, remember she wanted the Gov to have the power to shut down social networks sites like twitter.

She’s been a pain in Liebor’s side and so will be missed. Ex jocks will have fun voting in the November by-election.

It’s take time (at least 30 minutes) to hack the phone of a local journalist, and to tweet the scoop as your own exclusive.

Great. one of the only MPs I’d genuinely love to smash into has resigned.

    There’s always Margaret Beckett I suppose…

Obviously LACKED perception. Of course if the taxpayer coughed up a couple of nannies, private car\driver, housekeeper, secretary etc, would she re-consider?

I wonder if the Limp-Dicks will bother fielding a candidate for the bye-election?

    The Fallen Angel says:

She’s not been too bad as a constituency MP (to be fair to her!) but this is hardly the biggest news- its been expected for quite a while that she’d stand down…

Obviously she hasn’t been promoted quickly enough for her liking!!!

Going to be interesting to see who stands for the Conservatives in the by-election; marginal it may be but there’s still very little love lost for the labour Party in the town.

    Corby Resident says:

This is simply a recognition of the inevitable on her part. The inevitable being that she has ZERO chance of relection. She is loathed in Corby itself and is the Labour partys biggest tool to get out their vote.
Trouble is the Tories round here are none to keen on her either.
Its a Labour seat through and through.
    Unfortunately.

      Thankful Corby resident says:

Can only add to the emphasis on loathed regarding this woman.

Nothing of substance done for Corby, just another stepping stone to a media carreer i suspect.

Good riddance, a chapter in Corby’s history easily forgotten.

I understand she will be working for that nice Mr Murdoch in New York. Maybe that’s why she never criticised him or his companies. Such a sweet old man, like that nice Montgomery Burns from The Simpsons, who he resembles. Wait a minute.. Fox makes The Simpsons…..something very dodgy here….
