Yesterday’s Daily Star Sunday Column Now Online
If you had picked up your Daily Star Sunday yesterday you would already know who is sleeping on the job, why CCHQ is flapping about party conference and a taxing problem for Ed Miliband.
You would also have the inside track on Chris Huhne’s latest legal shenanigans – his lawyer forced a change of judge on seemingly spurious grounds. Of course this has nothing to do with said judge having form in banging up MPs…
Yesterday’s column is now online here…

Slow news day…?

Never mind G4S this company has almost 200 million contracts with DWP
August 2009- The state of Oregon hired MAXIMUS INC. to perform an audit of their telecommunications contracts. The audit was never finished due to “staffing issues”.[21]
March 2010- The Southeast Missourian reported that a federal audit discovered that the state of Missouri over billed the federal government $20.5 Million in Medicaid claims. According to the report, most of the errors discovered involved the state medicaid contractor MAXIMUS INC.[44]
2010- According to the Los Angeles Times, when MAXIMUS faced the risk of losing a $32 million welfare-to-work contract with Los Angeles County in 2010, the company reacted by outspending its competitor on lobbying efforts by eight to one. But after MAXIMUS spent $200,000 in lobbying fees and thousands more in campaign contributions, the paper explains, Los Angeles‘s five county supervisors voted to ignore the year-long review process and re-bid the contract to give MAXIMUS another chance.[30]
April 2010- The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services conducted an audit of New Jersey’s Medicaid School-Based Health Claims Submitted by Maximus, Inc. Of the 100 claims audited from 2003-2006, 51 were determined to not comply with Federal and State guidelines. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services required the state of New Jersey to pay the federal government back over $8 Million in fraudulent claims that were submitted fraudulently by MAXIMUS. The contract with MAXIMUS had already been terminated when the audit took place.[45]
June 2010- Umass Medical School partnered with COPC Inc. to research the strengths and weaknesses of the MAXIMUS MassHealth Customer Service Center. They found that ” On average, it takes two contacts with MassHealth to resolve an issue. 36% of issues are resolved in one contact–substantially lower than the 62% COPC Inc. benchmark for healthcare.” [46]
September 2010- The New Jersey Inspector General’s office determined through an investigation of a MAXIMUS Adoption Subsidy contract that MAXIMUS double billed for services. As a result, the State of New Jersey was required to pay back $4.8 million to the federal government.[47]
October 2010- The Los Angeles Times reported that 146 medical workers, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists were allowed to keep working despite failing drug tests. MAXIMUS was awarded a $2.5 Million a year contract to run California’s confidential “diversion programs”. MAXIMUS contracted the work out to a subcontractor who in turn subcontracted the work to another company. The drug testing company was using the wrong standard of drug test from December 2009 to August 2010, resulting in medical workers who tested positive for drugs to continue working.[48]
2011 – contracted to act as Work Programme Provider

If Blair is a primary key he cannot have a NULL value…

The Beeb reduced star salaries by a whopping £9.3m. Yes, £9.3m. Wow. What a sacrifice they had to make.
The BBC has reduced its star pay by £9.5m, spending just over £203m in the last financial year on salaries for its presenters and “talent”.
The BBC’s annual report revealed 16 individuals were paid more than £500,000 in the financial year 2011 – 2012, three fewer than the year before.
Director general Mark Thompson earned £622,000 in the last financial year – down from £779,000 in 2010-11.
Sorry, 9.5.
I’m talent! – and they never paid me for appearing!
We could hold a fund-raiser and pay you to disappear…
Can I have my old job back ? That Ed Daftly bloke isn’t taxing people enough for this Global Warming catastrophe.
‘The appalling weather in the UK is entirely the fault of the little people. Their profligate use of unrenewable energy has caused the melting of the polar ice cap, which has diverted the course of the jet stream.’ – I shit you not!
Surely, since it’s only been raining for the last three months that’s just ‘weather.’
Come back to us when it’s been raining for 20 years. That’s ‘climate’.
Apparently.
This Global Warming does seem to be working out as unusually cold. Nothing to do with El Nino and El nina cycles..
Have Rich and Mark had a technical difficulty today, dear?
You want them?
Jagerbomb induced double Sunday……
No, G4S were contracted to supply their crayons and scribbley pads.
Start of the school holidays (for state kids).
Maybe someone has added a “It has to be funny. If not go to start” check to their work-flow.
We may never see another of their “cartoons”.
Somehow, the thought of Angelina Jolie as MP strangely app*eals; but will she then be succeeded by Pitt The Really REALLY Younger?
“If you had picked up your Daily Star Sunday yesterday you would already know who is sleeping on the job,”
You’re not kidding.
