Lebedev Hit By Huge Indy Losses
Evgeny Lebedev has suffered a huge hit to his pocket after his company announced losses of £24 million for the Independent, i and Evening Standard newspapers over the last financial year. Things were particularly bad for the Indy, which made a pre-tax loss of £18 million. Owen Jones may not get that pay rise he is lobbying after…
Total losses for Lebedev Holdings rose by 22.5% while an unnamed Indy director took home over half a million quid in his pay package – the same amount of money being haemorrhaged by Lebedev’s rags each week.
What a way to run a business…

He’s got £3.1 billion in a the bank. A 24 million loss is a loose change.
Yes Guido, I’m sure Lebedev is grateful for your sage input into his business dealings, he’s obviously an amateur compared to your good self
Rupert Murdoch lost double that in one year on the Times btw, presumably he’s another failure else in need of your finely honed (ex bankrupt) business acumen?

Well said.
pay cuts for the meedjahadeen – oh dear
About time the Indie and the G******* went broke . I don’t know of anybody who now buys these rags. I have even deleted the G******* from my (free) browser….I don’t care what they have to say. I keep the Indie coz. it’s fun riling the loonies on there.
Ha ! Ha ! Ha !
At least there is some money left
I would not buy a used car off him…
Having read the obituary, in the Indy many years ago, for Anton Lubowski, anyone touching the Indy with anything short of Swan Vesta deserves all the vile the Indy wrote about others. The limp handshake by Indy journalists is all one needs to know about a rag and its employees. Sack the lot and hire some real, honest money grabbing shi’ites from the staff of “In the Night Garden” or “Play School”. Are you sitting comfortably?
No problem Guido.
My losses will all be made up and MUCH more when Labour get back in power in the next election.
With my backing they will do it. It was the Independent that did it.
Evgeny Lebedev looked at me. I could sense his despair. “What should I do?,” he asked, looking out of the window, at the rain. “My papers, will they ever succeed?”
“Evgenv,” I said, sitting up in my chair, “you will be launching the largest publishing battle in the history of mankind. Mankind, that word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can’t be consumed by our petty differences any more. We will be united in our common interest. Perhaps it’s fate that today is a little later than the 4th of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution, but from annihilation. We’re fighting for our right to live, to exist.”
Lebedev’s eyes welled with tears. “Johann,” he sobbed, “you are the greatest journalist of all time.”
I slumped back in my chair. “I know,” I replied. “I know.”
Loved it how about a story on that revolting ingrate alibi brown whatever her stupid name is
Newspapers are on their way out.
Heh – “rag”: pretty rich from a guy who writes for the Star…
