Warsi Cleared Islamist for Lunch with PM

The weekend papers have provided yet more unpleasant reading for Sayeeda Warsi, with the Telegraph claiming she secured a lunch date between her extremist business partner and David Cameron. Former Hizb ut-Tahrir insider Abid Hussain met the Prime Minister during a Conservative Friends of Pakistan function at the Savoy Hotel last month, with the bill paid for by none other than Lady Warsi herself. Given that Hussain has links to a radical Islamic group and has a conviction for violence, Guido is not exactly sure what is going on here. Warsi personally vouched for Hussain, exempting him from security checks…

That stack of paper on Sir Alex Allan’s desk must be growing.  Looks like we might get some value for money from him after all…

UPDATE: CCHQ sources protest that Hussain was not exempted from security checks, he went through the same security arrangements as every other guest. They claim it was hardly a lunch date “between” Abid Hussain and the Prime Minister, when there were over 300 people there. They claim Hussain did not meet the PM.

In what !@£$%-up world does a bit of ‘vouching for’ get such an exemption… on security… outside of a BBC FoI ‘you can’t hold us to account, we’re too powerful’ version.

It does not, the Security Service and SIS would be watching this whole little get together fairly closely, with the hope of getting some low to mid grade intelligence and perhaps some blackmail matrial for use later is worth it. Since Pakistan’s government is really run by their ISI any chance to get a some dirt would have been taken. Not likely our chaps would have bothered Dave (or any of his Troupe of Clowns) with this leave it the professionals etc.. If it gets nasty there are plenty of hold all bags though might have to go the the jumbo size for the Baroness.

Usual bedwetter attempt to close down the conversation. Good for Hitchens not getting dragged into her distraction technique.

Vile woman. Typical bedwetter. Giving it the personal sob story about ‘ow ‘er poor single mother brought them up by ‘and and therefore everybody else’s opinion is invalid.

Oi, Thornberry, if your single mum managed to bring y’all up on her own back in the 1960s and 1970s when there was nothing like the amount of handouts and you managed to get a good education and a job paying way beyond your IQ then why do we have to pay single women so much more in 2012 and supply them with so much more housing, pre-school-care etc etc for them to fail to do what your mother managed?

      Eh?

          jgm2 says:

So did she only spend a few weeks on ‘benefits’ in a council estate until the divorce settlement and sale and division of profits from the family home and maintenance came on stream?

Thought she had too plummy an accent to be a real class warrior. Sounds like she may be even more faux in her ‘outrage’ than it first looked. A ‘sister’ from the Hariett Harman school of faux outrage and fake empathy. A class warrior that’s jumped the other way. A proper middle-class ‘I feel your pain’ fake.

When you have a failed business that the Directors are unable to run properly, it can be sold to another party for a nominal sum.
Perhaps Dave could sell the Conservative Party to Hitchens for a £1.00. Let Hitchens take responsibility for the staff and ongoing operations.

Is the going rate still a quarter-mill?
I’ll tell you, things have come to a pretty pass when we have to start using Heinlein’s Razor (“Never attribute to malice what stupidity adequately explains”) to downplay the activities of Baroness Warsi, in relation to access to the PM– but there you are.

The Warsi case throws up interesting questions in Waltham Forest, as recorded by the local WF Guardian paper.
(WALTHAMSTOW: Warsi businessman sat on standards committee

11:28am Friday 8th June 2012 in Your Local Areas By Jonathan Bunn )

It turns out that Mr Hussein sat on the local Standards Board for several years, and has recently formed a joint business venture with Cllr Afzal Akram, a local Labour mover and shaker whose Pooh-Bah like list of sinecures show how one can turn conflict of interest into a lucrative profession in local government. Even odder, it seems that Mr Hussein was nominated for his post partly by local Tories.

Eris Pickles Lets Rotten Boroughs Fester. Lazy or wot? says:

Not local tories. There aren’t any in Walthamstow where Hussain lives. He was nominated by Tories from out of the area (though within the borough).

I would love to know why they did that. Who put them up to it? Did they have the first inkling of the kind of man they were putting in that position, his past politcial interests and activities? or even his current ones? ? If not, why not?

And were they told, when they nominated him to sit and then to sit again on the standards committee, that he was a business partner of a local councillor like Afzal Akram?

        NE Frontiersman says:

Sorry to nit-pick, but Waltham Forest Tories nominated Hussein to Waltham Forest Standards Board. It’s the most interesting thing the Tories have done in this borough for decades: most people aren’t even aware of their existence.

    New Town Toff, Edinburgh says:

It’s not just the Muslim vote that the ConLibLab establishment are falling over one another for. All three have their party funds stuffed with money from rich Asian businessmen – hence the reason why Warsi has been elevated to this national position when, in normal circumstances, she wouldn’t have got beyond the typing pool.
