I also seem to recall West Yorkshire Police pressurising Channel 4 to pull a documentary on this very subject a few years ago. My memory may be at fault but I’m sure they bowed to that pressure.

It’s not just the NHS. I once worked in a place that allowed staff 11 days a year Self Certified Sick. More than five consecutive days needed a Doctor’s Note, otherwise no questions asked. There were certainly people who just regarded that as 11 extra days Annual Leave, no prior permission required.
