Guardian’s Favourite Despot Deposed

You won’t hear much about this from the left today, but Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed is the latest leader to be forced out of office on a wave of protest. It seems he wasn’t a very nice chap and his arresting a judge was the last straw for an angry public who took to the streets. There is surprisingly muted coverage about the incident over at the Guardian. Could it be because Nasheed was until very recently the darling of the green movement?

Mohamed Nasheed once held a cabinet meeting under water in a climate change stunt and it won him hero status in that field. The paper has always sung his praises:

“After his election last year, Nasheed raised the possibility of buying a new homeland for the country’s 396,000 residents with the hundreds of millions of dollars that tourists spend. Earlier this year, he announced that the Maldives would stop using fossil fuels by 2020. The president is also committed to converting an atoll into a UN-protected biosphere to preserve the unique wildlife and fauna found on the 1,100 islands.”

At one point in 2009 the Observer claimed that Nasheed could not only save the Maldives but also the world. Who would have thought a green fanatic would have such fascistic tendencies…

The Guardian aren’t having a great day.

Firstly Polly this morning, then this, and now it seems Moinboit has gone off on one.

No doubt the BBC & Guardian will be giving that 7th century intellectual miles of print & hours of favourable airtime when he is released to plot how to murder the British taxpayers who keep his family in the lap of luxury.

If you want to deport Abu Qatada & his ilk, vote UKIP.

Well, lets face facts – the Conservatives are never going to grow a pair & tell the EU / EHCR to stuff their insane edicts.

Anyway, as we now all know David Cameron is a fully paid up member of the federalist EUSSR project – judging by his actions – not his words.

I cannot believe that anyone still takes the CO2 scare seriously. It is a complete joke.

Sadly for Moonbat and his acolytes, they have tied themselves so tightly to the results of fraudulent science, cherry picked statistics and bogus, politically motivated climate models and a mountain of left wing politically motivated bullshit that they now know that they will lose every last shred of credibility once they are forced to acknowledge reality.

The far left have wanted to de-industrialise the west for decades and they have been using climate scares as their main reason for this for decades too. Except in the 1970s it was the fear of an ice age that meant we needed to de-industrialise and transfer masses of our wealth to the third world despots and depopulate the planet or we would run out of food between the years 1990 – 2000.

As the 30 year PDO oscillates, so does the climate scare, but the lefties always want the same solution. De-industrialisation and transfer of wealth and population controls.

Don’t bet on it. Even after 13 years of economic and social disaster 28% of voters plumped for the Maximum Imbecile. Now, only two years of forgetfulness later, it’s 40%. This AGW disease is the same. It’s incurable. It might go into remission but then it’ll just flare up again as soon as there’s a hot day in July.

The Maldives fell off the Guardian’s calendar when it became apparent that flogging and FGM had reappeared. Its not clear how far Nasheed either compromised with or opposed this. He presented himself at one point as being pushed around by fundamentalists, which is quite possible.
See Sydney Morning Herald Jan 25 2012

The truth is probably somewhere between him not being very nice and his opponents being even less so.

Nasheed is not safe in the Maldives, and the next stage of this story (should it get reported, on Guido or the Graudian or wherever) could well be the assassination of Nasheed or his allies. Reports of persecution are already swirling.

Whether you buy the climate change narrative or not (and if not, you have to concede that for Maldivians pleading for aid money, it’s a cracking ruse worth milking) this is bad news on the human rights front, will be a boost to Islamists and is a killer for democracy in the country.

I think Gordon Brown did a lot of right things. The sad thing is – the Tory press destroyed his image, made up lies about him and the electorate bought it. now they face the consequences of a Tory Government.

Yeah. Silly old public. Believing that the guy who was in charge of the economy for 13 years might just have had a hand in fucking it. Poor old Brown eh? Wheeled out twice a year for ten years to tell you how fucking clever he was and how much money he’d be borrowing this year and then immediately put back in his box away from any tough questions or scrutiny.

Ten years sticking the knife into any and all political rivals. Particularly in his own party. Lies. More lies. Wicked and malicious briefings against colleagues. Then emerging, triumphant, blinking in the sunlight to spend three years on the front line demonstrating on a daily basis what an utter fucking lunatic he was (and remains).

        Poor old Brown.

Were it not for the BBC Labour would have been lucky to get 8% let alone 28% last time out.

Some Geezer wot's always careful what he wishes for says:

Sadly, a Mohammed Nasheed is tolerated, much in the way such worthies as Chiang Kai-shek and Mohammed Reza Pahlevi were, because the alternative was thought to be even worse. As US President Harry Truman was reputed to have said, sure they’re SOB’s, but they’re OUR SOB’s. If a more-hardline-Islamic regime were to eventuate in the Maldives (it is now nominally under Sharia law) and all the eco-tourists will now be unable to sip their margaritas and daiquiris, I don’t see how that’s going to help anyone. With apologies to Al Gore, the fact that the Maldives is a Muslim country (which is not now considered anti-Western, to be sure) is an inconvenient truth which must be dealt with accordingly. The fact that it is a poor nation still recovering from the tsunami of a few years back only compounds the problem. Sure, Nasheed was a “green” mountebank, but he’s OUR mountebank vis-a-vis Islamic extremism.

  23. 44
