Judgement Day

In about half an hour Chris Huhne will learn his fate. If he’s not charged it will leak within minutes. Westminster waits with baited breath. Runes are being read left, right and centre but nobody has the foggiest. Roll on Ten O’Clock…

Rage Against the Political Elite says:

CPS have to show that the Prosecution is in the Public interest.
Showing that once again a leading politician perverts course of justice. Lies etc etc. NOT IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST.
Look what happened in Egypt when the people realized that the Political Class put themselves above the LAW.

Rage Against the Political Elite says:

For the millions of those prosecuted for traffic offences, you really should be a politician or a police officer or some one working for the government who wont be prosecuted. ONE LAW FOR THE LAW MAKERS AND ONE LAW FOR THE WORKERS.

Rage Against the Political Elite says:

Those that hold themselves above the Masses should act with the most reverence in all they do. If the fail they should fall on their sword. Lying cheating should be punished with far more severe sanctions for those in positions of power. The Japanese have a great way of dealing with this its called suicide. If British Politicians Bliar Broon etc etc, dont have the bottle to do it, then we should have a system in place to help them out. This would Stop the fraud the lying that brings all our institutions into disrepute.

As you say he will not be charged – the CPS record as from the Blair period of cash for honours shows that the politicians get off which is why half the Labour shadow cabinet, especially Harperson, are still at large making our lives a misery.

Well, there was an interesting comment on the Sky press preview last night – in the way in which the CPS was presenting it – which would indicate no charges. PS I think it is at 10:00 – so an hour and half away.

    Call me Dave says:

I foresee an announcement along the lines of:

” It is impossible for Mr Huhne to have a fair trial so the CPS has no option but to offer no evidence to the Crown”

    • 15

That’s a good theory. I hope this isn’t the case. But if it is, basically Dave has to sack him right..? Surely?

      Naaah. Insufficient evidence->conflicting accounts->unlikely to secure a conviction->dropped.

Cue Huhne at 10.00am with prepared statement claiming to have been exonerated, honour intact, time to put this behind us and move forward blah blah.

    Racked off says:

Hoon might be screwed…..from toenails Robinson….

Update: I’ve just been checking the precedents for the CPS announcing in advance that they are making an on-camera statement and for the DPP himself delivering it. The Crown Prosecution Service did make an on camera statement when they decided not to bring prosecutions in the cash for honours. It was, though, not the Director of Public Prosecutions himself who made the announcement. The news emerged the day before – I reported the fact that there would not be prosecutions the day before on the BBC News at Ten and on my blog. The last time the DPP made an on-camera statement was when manslaughter charges were brought against a police officer over the death of Ian Tomlinson last May. He also made the announcements on the decisions relating to the MPs’ expenses scandal.

When I had the audacity to drive through North Wales on a dry, clear, sunny day, with no traffic on the road other than me, I was advised I had travelled 10 miles an hour faster than I should have done!

Paperwork was sent within weeks and I was threatened with court, fine (£1,000) and more, if I didn’t cough up £60 and accept 3 points.

My wife, registered keeper of the vehicle, shopped me to the ol’ Bill and that was it.

An incovenience, perhaps and a warning to keep me minces peeled if I wanted to drive quickly.

Guilty or not, how this has taken SOOOO LOOOOOOONNNNGGG to resolve is beyond me.

Somehow I wonder if these people think they are above the law. Why not take the hit, accept a small fine (let’s face it Huhne’s not exactly on his uppers is he?) and have done with it.

Perhaps I should have lied, perverted the course of justice and many years later I too could have a cabinet post and thick enough skin to brazenly ride out the oncoming storm!

Now I’m off for a pint of Top Totty!
