No self-awareness. According to a great deal of medical research that I have never studied, that is a problem with the mentally unstable.
She is devoid of all reality. A balance does indeed need to be struck between a parent being able to hit their child and protection of said child. 99% of people know how hard to smack a child if they choose to do so, the key word there, choose. It is a parents choice. For the 1% who are a danger to children and indeed probably themselves there are the police and social services.
