+ + + Sunday Times Drops Huhne High Court Challenge + + +

Potentially incriminating emails about Huhne sent by Vicky Pryce to the Sunday Times’ Political Editor Isabel Oakeshott will be handed over to the police. If he’s charged, he has to walk…

UPDATE: The Prime Minister’s spokesman says he has “confidence” in Huhne. Not full, or complete, just “confidence”. Some are less sure though:

Perverting the course of justice. Doubt he would be let off with a slapped botty. More than likely the C.P.S. will give the usual bullshit…Not in the public interest… J Archer got four years for a similar offence.

Doesn’t work like that ‘Public interest’ means he should be more likely to be charged than less, to avoid impression that he’s getting special treatment.

    pintandapisstheorist says:

AM I MISSING SOMETHING OR WHAT?
The problem here seems to be the impossibility of his missus doing a return journey in the time necessary to get from London to the airport and back.
Given that impossibility it surely must be deduced that Huhne had parked the car at the airport himself ………ergo, there must be photographic evidence from CCTV given that has to be the case.
Come on plod, do a little more probing on this one!

    • 40
      sockpuppet #4 says:

I don’t remember a straight answer to the time of the ticket.

      inside-out says:

He claimed on the speeding summons he received as the registered owner of the vehicle, that she was driving the car at the time of the alleged speeding offence. He then sent off her driving licence and signed the summons to that affect, without she alleges her knowing. The problem arrises that she was a a public function, and at the time she left that function, she could not have been driving Huhne back from Stansted airport,so he MUST be lying.

  35. 50
    scusemeq says:

In all this i have not seen any comment as to the inherent implausibility of Huhne (or anyone else) being picked up by car by his wife, from Stansted airport. Who would do that? It is ridiculous to suppose that she. a busy woman, would leave a dinner in Central London on a weekday evening and drive to Stansted and back. Just would not happen. The question as to whether she could have been driving is therefore a side issue. Obviously, he would either have driven himself, having left car at airport (which is what happened), or failing that a normal person would either be picked up by a driver (minicab) or use public transport. particularly as it could all be claimed on expenses.

He’ll get away with it. They always do.

The fact it’s taken so long tells us some dodgy dealing has gone on behind the scenes.

Probably a fine and suspended sentence. And just like the other political crooks, he’ll only have to wait 6 months before he’s ‘suffered enough’ and is welcomed back.

    Makes me sick.

    Huhne's Anti Prosecution Insurance says:

I’ve got a little list (quite a long one actually). Certain other Ministers, M.P.s, and Plods have committed frauds, thefts, and indiscretions of a lewd nature that have come to my attention, yet to be discovered by the lazy meeja.
As “We are all in this together”, I suggest that I be let off this minor crime. We Libdums are not averse to blackmail.

    Justice delayed is justice denied.

The Sunday Times has a lot to answer for.

if Mrs Huhne had sent those e mails to say the Sunday Telegraph would we be in this mess today?

Arguably Mr Huhne is not fit for high office yet for the last 18 months he has been able to make decisions which effect all UK citizens who have been paying a pretty price for the privilege.

Andrew Pierce on Ed Balls…

“Porky Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls sweet-talked guests at a fund-raising dinner by saying if he wasn’t a politician, he would be a chef. That’s not surprising, since he was accused of cooking the Treasury books when he was Gordon Brown’s boot boy.”

magic_otter says:

is there anyone in the world that Tony hasnt screwed in some way?
