I had to go hunting for my poppy this year. I found the Legion’s stand in the supermarket, but rather tucked away. The lady looking after it most definitely did not have ‘cold dark eyes’.

I also had serious trouble finding a poppy. Eventually I discovered a tray half-hidden at the Tesco smokes and lotto counter. He was a genuine war hero in my book who’d lied about his age to join the Royal Navy early. One squadron he was a member of had almost suicidal levels of casualities.
