Dave Joins “Britain in Europe”

No.10′s very own little Euro-crisis hasn’t calmed down overnight. Sources close to George Eustice get in touch to say that his amendment hasn’t gone down well with the leadership despite reeking of a stich-up attempt, however there is mistrust on the benches about Eustice none-the-less. As of this morning, the Tory leadership are still unwilling to give any ground, blaming the LibDems, but it’s going to be a long weekend…

The “Britain in Europe” briefing that went out last night from CCHQ to the troops has not gone down well, not least because “Britain in Europe” was the name of 1999 grouping that brought together Blair, Ken Clarke, Helseltine, Heath, Mandy, Charlie Kennedy, Huhne, Hain and Kinnock to try to get us to join the Euro. Accusations of “going native” are two a penny this morning…

Evidence of Dave’s change of heart can be found on Page 5 of the lines to take:

Q: What’s wrong with having a referendum on renegotiating Britain’s relationship with Europe?

Britain’s interest is in being in Europe but not run by Europe. Conservatives are clear that we should get powers back from Britain to Brussels so we don’t need a referendum on that, we just need a Conservative majority government.

The leadership are in a panic flap and it’s showing through sloppiness and stubbornness. They are going out of their way not to make this easy for themselves…

UPDATE: Another wrecking amendment has been launched by Richard Harrington. It’s not getting much support.

“Conservatives are clear that we should get powers back from Britain to Brussels so we don’t need a referendum on that, we just need a Conservative majority government.”

The familiar Hague whine, followed by the same old, negotiate powers back bull. For the last thirty years we have had Conservative government, Labour government and now Coalition government and in that time we have never renegotiated back one power ceded to the EU.
The reason for that is simple, we can’t.
All 27 member states must agree to any such agreement and none would without massive conditions attatched, which would render them meaningless.

That’s all that matters.

The German people will eventually realise that once again the cocksucker cabal want to fleece them and destroy them but this time it won’t work, and RBS, Lloyds, Barclays, SocGen, BNP Paribas etc., will fail, and take down UK, France etc. economies. The Britain in Europe briefing is a joke.

In it Tory High Command desperately tries to convince members that being in Europe and securing “opt outs” is both possible and sustainable. Yet on Page 2 we get this:

●1992:The Maastricht Treaty. The treaty created the legal basis for the creation of Euro (UKopts out) and the moves towards foreign policy, military, criminal justice and judicial cooperation. The ‘three pillars’ set out where the EEC did and did not have competence. UK secures opt outfrom the ‘Social Chapter.’

●1997:Treaty of Amsterdam.UK subscribes to ‘Social Chapter’.

In other words even if power are repatriated, they aren’t safe. There is no guarantee that a future administration won’t simply sign them away again, probably in return for a promise that gets broken.

    • 97

The other joke is Cameron’s endless bleating is that repatriation of powers simply requires a “Conservative Majority Government”.

Well, Davey Boy. You fucked that one up, didn’t you. With all your husky hugging and building windmills for hoodies. We are now dealing with the results of that, namely a coalition in which the libdems have disproportionate power and a government incaable of doing what it promised in its election manifesto. Including the bit about negotiating the repatriation of powers from Brussels.

Its becoming increasingly obvious that we will be out of the EU sometime within the next 20 years. Tory old guard is being replaced by young Eurosceptics at every opportunity. Its only a matter of time. Its probably better to let time take its course rather than have a referendum whose outcome could readily be influenced by scaremongering big business spending big money to keep their fingers in the Euro-pie.

Of course, things could happen much faster if Cam gets knifed (which seems increasingly inevitable as his leadership looks increasingly worthless) – If he does get knifed it will be a year or so before the next election. We musn’t forget that the EU itself could break up like all continental alliances – Greece is heading for civil war thanks to EU intransigence, Greek debt will then default 100% and the rot will spread from the periphery to the core. France, Spain, Italy deeply in the shit, the Eastern EU countries not getting any handouts and struggling to compete without the subsidies they’ve been getting. War in Europe virtually guaranteed within 5 years I’d say the way the EU is headed.
