Silent Steve
It has been claimed that Alan Rusbridger briefed Steve Hilton about unpublishable evidence regarding Coulson and dodgy connections. This apparently took place before he made the transfer to Downing Street. Cameron denied being given any evidence personally and said that he will look into what his advisor knew. For a media keen not to let the Dave connection to this scandal go, what Hilton did, or did not, say is crucial.
There was no love lost between Hilton and Coulson, especially in the latter days. Are we seriously expected to believe that Hilton, in course of his power struggle with Coulson, didn’t offer up the dirt to Cameron?

Hilton won the battle but Murdoch will win the war.
“unpublishable evidence” could also be called unproven gossip.
If Rusbridger could stand the allegations up, he’d have printed them.
At the time Rusbridger count not print them – they were evidence in an upcoming murder trial…so he had a quite word instead. I think there were others in the press that also passed on the same info about a PI that Coulson was close to at the Screws.
Rusbridger said last night that he had warned Cameron before he hired Coulson, just over 4 years ago then, that Coulson would be a witness in an upcoming murder trial.
Assuming this was the Milly Dowler murder trial, was Coulson called as a witness? No. Did the allegations of her phone being hacked come out at that trial? No.
The Guardian published these allegations some days after the trial finished; so what was the real extent of the info Rusbridger gave Cameron? Tittle tattle?
And just where and how, and for how much, did Rusbridger get the info over 4 years ago that Milly’s phone had been hacked?
wrong murder trial – you need to read more widely
Benji, I don’t think this was the Dowler trial – it was concerning the PI Jonathan Rees and his upcoming car-park axe murder trial…..
It looks more likely Cameron employed Andy for his skills and connections. It becomes interesting when Andy starts opening his mouth to reduce his sentence.
Cameron is not a small businessmen to give a crook a second chance he is the PM.
Compared to the people before him in the role (Campball, Mcbride) , Coulson does seem under qualified for the job.
Does the qualification include giving bribes, hacking, etc? He was working for the PM not to a mafia boss.
Iraq deaths= 2-3 million (5 million displaced)
Mcbride= Smear campaign against people in his own party and oppo.(lies)
Coulson=Hacked voicemail and bunged coppers money

Iraq war done with full support of the Conservative party, they have equal blame as labour.
Mcbride, did it after being employed. Andy did it before being employed and what he is accused of doing is a criminal offence.
Yep , But who published the dodgy dossiar?
Coulson resigned from News inc, Labour coverd up nhacking first time around (As rupert was still backing them at the time) , also a crimnal offence (Perveting the course of justice).
Dave comes in to No 10, allegations made, coulson resigns , full investigation launched (while Murdoch is still backing the Tories) .
Spot the difference.
Billy Bowden is the greatest umpire ever ! says: July 8, 2011 at 12:06 pm
Every one know is a dodgy dossiar from the moment it was publish, it was same as cut in UK and giving to other countries. Dodgy dossiar was supported by consrvatives, without consrvative support Blair would not have gone to war as he didn’t have the support in his own party to do this.
Andy didn’t cover it up by himself, there were others involved.
Cameron spent more time with Andy, Brooks and Rupert more than the time he spent with his own ministers. BShyB deal came in as soon as Cameron become PM.
BskyB deal had been put into the long grass by Labour after Murdoch stopped supporting Labour.
Also i think you will find the the EU has already ruled that the deal sould go tho.
As to Iraq, I was and still against it, however it was voted on in Parliament and passed (Thats democrcy).
As to coulson friend of DC , so?
Of course they don’t have equal blame. That’s a halfwitted statement.
That’s the point – he’s the PM.
OK, Cameron could dodge and swerve about what he knew and when. And Coulson could say it was all history.
The fact is, Coulson was not a fit and proper person to be so close to the PM. And Cameron knew that before he hired him. It isn’t just about what can be proved.
You only give people a second chance when you are sure they were guilty, otherwise its not called second chance.
That’s what we always say down West End Central.
Were there witnesses? If not then it is just he said, she said.
Billy, do you work for News International? You behave and sounds like a Sun or NOW reader.
Anonatwit
Hello resident Labtroll, not actually very good are you. Pretty sad job you have.
THere are 2 anymouses. One is a lab-bot, the other is a UKIP troll. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference.
Who gives a rats arse what the luuvies and hacks knew or said about one another! All that really matters is if any law been broken. If so charges will be brought and due process will take it’s course. 99% of the public will look on and enjoy media types tear chunks out of each other. Can’t say I feel any real sympathy for the “innocent” hacks who scribbled their tawdry trade at the Bews if the Screws. Tbey worked for an outfit that specialised in being judge jury and executioner and destroyed many (innocent?) peoples reputations. Now they know how it feels to be on the receiving
end…. My how they squeel.
Are the financial dealings of the Scott trust ‘all on the record’, Alan?
Rusbridger will be extradited to the US soon for receiving and publishing stolen goods – ie US government communications stolen by Julien Lasange. He’ll be getting one of the 798-year sentences in an American hellhole jail somewhere in the hottest part of Arizona.
of course we should all be tru and just on behalf of our governments because they are always right, right – plonker
Anal Rugbitter must be jumping up and down with joy in his polished brogues.
His time will come.
Anyone thought to question how the Grauniad came into possession of these transcripts in the first place?
An old favourite showing Rusbridger in all his glorious hypocrisy
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/what-happened-when-the-guardian-editor-met-piers-morgan-442870.html
Morgan is a tw*t of the highest order but he did some good work here.
the ceilings of need to know and protecting your patron from involvement in information gathering is well used within the british political system…thats why you have layers of government be it ministerial or spad. Cameron took what was told him at face value and there is no doubt Coulson was a good performer for the job in hand…if he had been brilliant there would have been a majority but he cannot be blamed for the last minute Clegg factor warping the result. When the matters in hand started to rise again he went.
What a little twat Ed milliband really shows himself to be… weasel words from someone right in the middle of the period during in which this was all going down. Pathetic expediency is now standard labour parlance which is why they are so risible in opposition…we hardly need reminding what they were like in government.
From where did Rusbridger obtain this “unpublishable” evidence?
Sunday Colon – what an asshole!
Cameron Gonna use this as an excuse to get rid of Hilton for his recent anti euro comments?
Cameron’s judgement in hiring Coulson was disastrous. But the govt should emphasise one significant aspect. C unt though Coulson is, he didn’t do anything dirty whilst director of communications. His dirty deeds were at NOTW. In stark contrast, Labour’s Damien McBride committed his sleaze on behalf of the Labour govt direct from his No10 email account. If Cameron wants to regain the initiative, he needs to remind Labour and the press of this and of the fact that Blinky is still pally with McBride.
But Ed assured us he wasn’t pally with “Mr MacBride” – surely he couldn’t have been lying – it would be so out of character. LOL
Politicians are all cnuts – they are only interested in themselves, their bank balance and climbing the greasy pole. They will say or do almost anything to advance any of these things.
I agree, but unless there’s new evidence to bring this to the fore again, I suspect Damien’s antics won’t see the light of day.
Anyway….while all this is going on, what’s happening somewhere else?????
Are you suggesting it’s a good day to bury bad news?
What? The very idea!
British Gas found a good day to bury bad news – Gas up by 18% elec by 16%.
That snippet has been trailed in the media for only the last 6 weeks.
Wrong. Not for British Gas but another cowboy outfit.
balls is heads down and not so stupid as to start major stone chucking…more form than ladbrokes when it comes to the dodgy tricks department….he will eventually come out of the box when he thinks hes home free.
I agree with the premise of this – it doesn’t make any logical sense for Hilton to keep the information to himself.
So either iDave is lying or Hilton has agreed to take the flak. Cameron would do well to remember that the lies and coverup catch out more people than the original incident.
wise advice, but dave’s not all that good at understanding, never mind taking it.
anyway, his mind is on more important matters – his next hairdressing apointment is at 4.00pm
same old bollocks Same Old …grow some new ones theres a god boy
What’s happened to Britain?
The Politicians are bent.
The Police are bent.
The Press are bent.
The Banks are bent.
The Utilities are a rip off.
The Public Sector is a rip off.
The armed forces are increasingly impotent.
What a great place to bring up your kids!
That’s no problem – my kids are bent as well!
Make sure you cover up the eyes of the kids.
Sorry I meant “people” not “kids”.
“it works” (as they say at the end of the activia adverts)
The weather is crap most of the time too.
The borders are open, vast swathes of benefits are paid to the undeserving, compensation culture is rife, gang warfare is on the increase, town centres in the evening are full of drunken yobos, people can’t afford houses, vast swathes of money are poured in the corrupt pit that is the EU
It doesn’t bear thinking about.
Don’t forget the indifferent shop assistants.
Or crappy state education. Anyone under the age of 35 being incapable of doing their jobs properly.
Traffic. Parking charges. Foreign traffic wardens.
NHS patients being left in their own filth.
Or worst of all, music played in supermarkets.
Freddie Mercury and Queen had it right: “All we hear is Radio Gaga, Radio Googoo”.
have you only just noticed Lady Virginia ?
“The Politicians are bent.
The Police are bent.
The Press are bent.”
Can someone just point out the headline shocker here?
Cricket is bent
Football (FIFA) is bent
Horse racing is bent…
Cricket is the most noble sport played.
Agree with the others tho.
Billy, you are a cock sucker of the first order.
Cricket is the most boring and sleep inducing pastime that does not warrant the title of sport.
When I’m Prime Minister and I legalise the hunting of chavs, that will be the most noble of sports.
if you were Pm Tessa …as chris bryant would say we’d be bottom feeding
What happened to Britain you ask. Well it was renamed the UK – probably by the common market.
And you missed a few such as
Everything you buy is a rip off – pounds in Britain, sorry meant UK, and same number but dollars in the uSA
And Half the country has been invaded by foreigners – that’s the half my tax is supporting single handed
Yeah great place to bring up kids
– Get taught in Hindustani in school
– Learn to pronounce british names names like mohummod
– Be indocrinated to understand black people are more noble
Too right. Spoons, waps, dagoes, nips the lot.
Iain Dale is bent
Anyone with any sense or sincerity left Britain a long, long time ago. Now you are left with lightweight bullshitters like Cameron.
Typical homophobia from the left.
Just let us know who else you want arrested Rupert.
The Met are looking for a bear wearing a red pullover and yellow trews and scarf.
I hope they manage to round up the rest of the gang while they are at it.
Rupert’s pals include both an elephant (Edward Trunk) and a mouse (Willie) who are both scaled to be about the same size as Rupert and Bill. There are also a few human characters in the stories, such as the Professor (who lives in a castle with his servant), Tiger Lily (a Chinese girl) and less frequently occurring characters such as Sailor Sam, Captain Binnacle and Rollo, the Gypsy boy.
rollo, the gypsy boy you say?
mmm
The same Alan Rusbridger who has happily pocketed advertising revenue from Murdhoch over the years. Fucking hypocritical Hunt.
I bet Rupert Murdoch has been getting his dick sucked hard by whats her face. I reckon he has shot his load over her ginger hair any a time
Reckon that’s why he’s keeping her in the job. Imagine how tight she must be right now.
would you after kemp had it this way and that…ok you would but ming it does
“Are we seriously expected to believe that Hilton, in course of his power struggle with Coulson, didn’t offer up the dirt to Cameron?”
I told you all, we’re all in this together
Who ‘leaked’ the advanced news of Coulson’s arrest today to the Guardian last night?
Jemna Khan?
I can guarantee it wasn’t us. Met officers never accept ‘inappropriate payments’. Not that we were paid for the tip-off.

Yes. Get in there. You’re dead Coulson you caaannt. Fucked up bad. Don’t fuck with me assholes, I’m a bad boy.
The post Dave era is upon us.
Conservatives – rejoice!
I thought Cameron’s statement was calm, measured and prime ministerial, in contrast to Milliblands’s rather hysterical tone.
This whole story hasn’t interested me to date – what NOTW staff did was bad but it doesn’t affect me, so I’m largely indifferent, but the thought that this might actually drag Cameron down excites me a lot.
The only danger is if he’s forced to leave over this particular issue, and not the wider issue that he’s an utter woolly-headed Liberal spendaholic traitorous devious mendacious w*nker. The lesson might not be learned, and the Cons might yet replace him with someone from the same mould.
Kenneth Clark could take his place – a true right winger
When I become Prime Minister every family will be issued with a free poker.
I think you would like ed balls as pm tessa.
Why would anyone believe what Rusbridger said?
what happened to the steve hilton eurosceptic outburst two weeks ago? what is the connection with christopher shale’s supposed memo and death, and the exposure of NI. or is it all coincidence?
Certainly the NI revelations this week are not the result of any new evidence coming to light.
Everyone who knew about them knew a long time ago.
It does raise questions.
Is it possible that Rusbridger deliberately put Hilton into a tell/don’t tell dilemma precisely for a day like today?
Rusbridger is not that bright. Have you seen his choice of spectacles & shoes?
exactly – rusbridger isn’t that bright, it’s just that dave is thick as pigshit
DID YOU MISS THIS ONE YESTERDAY? YOU NEED TO CONCENTRATE MORE GUIDO. MUST BE ALL THEM GARY ABLETT’S YOU HAD. WHOOP WHOOP.
PM went on about inetgrity and people’s trust in pillars of democratic society, but in parallel we see there is an attempt to slide David Laws back into a nice little committee post, as if he has repented and served his time etc. Cameron needs to stop that sort of thing, and so avoid the inevitable outcry….
nonsense – david (and his life partner) are charming company at an agreeable country weekend in oxfordshire.
he’s very much our sort of person
At Cameron’s press conference this morning you could be forgiven for thinking he was guilty and not the NOW.
The media only want a story i.e. Coulson guilty hence Cameron guilty, but what would Cameron be guilty of?
The media are not interested one iota in a clean up, judicial enquiry etc.
It’s amazing in the BBC reporting that there was not one mention of the enquiry under the labour enquiry.
No one in the media is interested in the truth, sickening.
That is what’s making me tune out. The story being reported isn’t the story i want to know. What about the police? What about the cover ups? What about the politician’s slavish devotion to Murdoch.
Instead, Cameron employed a wrong ‘un. He must resign!
It all sounds as if its come from an ed Miliband PMQ’s that we aren’t supposed to take very seriously.
‘ everyone began to love himself better than anyone else, and indeed they could not do otherwise. All became so jealous of the rights of their own personality that they did their very utmost to curtail and destroy them in others, and made that the chief thing in their lives.’
Fyodor Dostoevsky 1877
Nowt new on the left
Its interesting but…. what else is on?
West Indes v India (test match at 3pm) , But has been disrupted due to rain.
Tour de France is getting going.
Only one British, sorry UKish, stage win so far
More British taxpayers money being siphoned off to prop up the EUSSR via the IMF.
‘siphoned’ doesn’t quite indicate the scale of it. Dave’s Euro bailouts – money he’s ‘lent’ but will never ever see again – have cost us £12.5billion in the last year, twice what he’s ‘saved’ in his ‘cuts’. And that’s on top of £13.3billion he’s handing the EU every year, and the total waste of £11bn in foreign aid (rising every year), to countries with space programmes.
My suspicion is, if you grabbed Cameron’s nose and tugged hard, the whole foam-rubber mask will come away to reveal Gordon Brown underneath.
dave sincerely believes that it’s the right thing to do
Everyone deserves a second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance second chance
The time has come for a little hush. So let’s all get back to work now, shall we? I said, let’s get back to work.
Tsk, tsk, such speculation.
As Nixon found out it is not so much the original crime, its the cover up that does for you.
DC will have to do a mea culpa and rapidamente if that claim by Rusbridger is true. But then again can you/could you swallow what you are/were being told by that lefty propagandist…..?
if you bothered to check out the allegations and they proved to be true, why not?
lazy dave can’t be arsed with all that due diligence stuff – just does as he’s told
Prescott being taken apart by journalists on the Daily Politics.
Worth watching.
All the other newspapers queuing up to stick the boot in over the last few days – rather like a gang of rapists beating up a paedophile really isn’t it.
one old slapper leaving the east end – opportunity knocks – bekky!
Jo Coburn did a good job on Prescott, reminding him exactly how close the Labour administration had been to Murdoch and Brooks for over 13 years.
It doesn’t trouble the humongous blob of traitorous lard when he’s mugged or shown to look a complete ignoramus on camera because he’s so fucing dim he believes that everyone who’s not a ‘toff’ thinks that he’s a great down to earth sort of bloke sticking up for the working man.
When he is mugged off, which is nigh on every time he’s interviewed by any one but a sycophantic beboid (and even sometimes then) he just resorts to his big false bonhomie type laugh or shouts out a single word, like Ash croft.
Jo Coburn is a mega MILF.
I’d much rather self abuse
Is it absolutely necessary for a Prime Minister’s spinmaster to be an utter scumbag? One after another they slouch past us, dripping with filth and bile, dragging the heavy chains of their former enslavement to some press baron. Isn’t it possible for one of them to be smart, savvy and up to all the tricks but retain some human decency? Or, if they have to be in the gutter, couldn’t they be looking at the stars?
Traditionally, the PMs press spokesperson has been a grade A scumbag, able to mix it with the worst of them.
Times they are a changing though – after Coulson’s departure, he was replaced with a wet BBC guy whose name I cannot even recall. Irony is, Cameron needs a real bruiser at this particular moment.
given the playing field Sir William…you obviously need a pretty tough thick skin…a sharp wit and experience in the darker arts to better those looking for the gaffer’s downfall at every step….not many savvy sunday school teachers out there me thinks.
Is Bernard sill around?
Ed Milidickhead is not just a boring, inept peabrain. He’s also a nasty spiteful control-freak.
Certainly spiteful.
pathetic spineless weasel more like
not as concerned as we were when you managed to lard you way to DPM you gutless slob
Now we’ll see if Cameron really is the “heir to Blair”. He will need to deploy the full range of the old Teflon Tony bulls*** skills to emerge from this unscathed.
true – dave talks the talk, but can he talk the talk?
talks the talk walks the walk and although only a well educated eton boy Pm..not done very well really ..giggle
Puzzled why this deflective issue is deemed so important.
Did Coulson commit any impropriety in his jobs with Cameron?
- Not so far as we know.
Did all the sordid activity, cover ups and corruption occur under Labour’s watch?
- YES!
Milishit making the accusations at the moment over on Sky. Refusing to name Hilton and Rusbridger. If Rusbridger had the goods on Coulson why did he not print them?
Milishit has now denied that Baldwin took cocaine! Good interview on Sky by Boulton.
sensitive topic for many politicians – isn’t that right dave?
doubt if he gives it a second thought…we all did things we might not wish to reflect on too closely…anyone that didn’t is either a monk or a liar
Fat-arsed Hunt Prescott is as thick as pig shit. The piss-brained ex cabin boy has a short memory. Liebour was up Murdoch’s arse for many years. They did nothing about hacking and knew it was going on. And now Tom Baldwin is advising the adenoidal cretin Miliband. Strange also how the ‘cash for peerages’ enquiry was effectively shelved. And only half a dozen MPs prosecuted and imprisoned when it should have been at least 400.
The Thick of It couldn’t do better….Stewart Pearson / Cal Richards power struggle, Series 3, Episode 8?
anyone seen my anorak?
wake up….its tied to the plank nailed to your arse b4 you shaft the brooks bint
THINK DRINK
THINK DRIVE
Why should a Conservative believe a word anyone from the Guardian says?
They duplicitous, treacherous scum at the best of times.
Casual gossip was never going to be listened to, but then I suppose Russbridger knew that and guessed he could publicly do the, “well I warned you”, routine to discredit Cameron.
But nobody in the real world gives a crap about Coulson.
He was chief spin doctor (briefly in government) not a minister and their are 3 words that clean Coulson’s image, Alistair Fvcking Campbell!
campbell along with the prime mincer might not have paid for it or hacked it but everything else was more than fair game regardless of how underhanded it was… they could limbo under the lowest of moral standards with flawless efficiency….. and what NI was doing ….does anyone seriously believe the others weren’t….of course they were …only difference …they haven’t been hammered yet…their turns will come.
