Essex Police Raid Pryce Home, Take Phone

This blog may have in the past queried the progress of the Essex police investigation into Chris Huhne. With the obtaining of the Pryce recording and statement from the Sunday Times we became more optimistic. The Mail on Sunday’s scoop this morning that just over a week ago Essex police raided Vicky Pryce’s home to obtain her son Peter’s phone with text messages on the phone from Chris Huhne gives us more confidence that they are being thorough.

Clearly the police suspect Huhne is trying to pressure his ex-wife via the children, in this you have the measure of the man, to save his career he would have others lie for him. Even by the low standards of politicians Chris Huhne is a particularly selfish man who lies without compunction.

It could be difficult to prosecute Huhne if Vicky retracts her signed statement. The CPS are by all accounts wary of prosecuting a Minister of the Crown, who would without doubt have to resign to defend himself. Nevertheless, given the circumstantial evidence it would be a travesty of justice if the CPS nervously failed to proceed essentially because Huhne is a government minister. It is not for the CPS to decide whom they believe, it is time for a jury to determine the truth.

David Cameron’s barrister brother is at the centre of a row over how much he has been paid in legal aid fees after Ministers blocked attempts to publish details of his public earnings.
Alex Cameron QC is a leading criminal lawyer who heads his chambers in London. But a request to disclose his fees under Freedom of Information laws has been blocked by the Justice Ministry.

David Laws Lib Dem fiddler says:

It has emerged that wind farms would need 17 gas fired power stations to be built in reserve if there was not enough wind to generate electricity from the proposed wind farms.

Sadly Wet Dave and Idiot Huhne are still in favour of them being built as part of our energy strategy (strategy- well I could think of better words to describe it). We, the taxpayer, are subsiding the building of wind farm machines by a levy attached and hidden in your electric and gas bill. Root down in your bill and take a look. If that was not bad enough VAT is added to the total after the ‘obligation to climate’ fee is added, not before. Therefore the 17% added to your bill has VAT added to it. The same is true with your water bill. 25% is added for the commitment to the environment and then VAT is added.

Typical underhand deception by a lie Dumb like Chris Huhne. The sooner Huhne McClegg, Cable and co are wiped off from the political map the better.

DLLBF, I quite agree Wavey-Davey, Clegg, Huhne and the rest of this spineless coalition government should be got rid of – but who do you replace them with? Surely you can’t mean giving the lying corrupt Labour Party another chance to destroy this country and itsw economy? Who in their right mind would give Red Ed and his pack of incompetents and thugs the keys to number 10?

The problem is we now have career politicians being elected – people who have done nothing in the real world and know nothing of the problems facing the ordinary people of this country. These modern politicians are so slippery, insincere, naive and/or purely venal, it makes you wonder if there is a scientific establishment somewhere producing them like the souless pod people from the old Sci-Fi film “The Invasion of the Body Snatchers”.

          • David Laws Lib Dem fiddler says:

I agree with you. I will vote UKIP at next election. I could not vote Liebour. However, I do not see the difference between Liebour and the coalition of Lie Dumbs and Wet Dave’s Europhiles. Budget, immigration, EU, defence, crime, WHS (World free Health Service). In fact all have got worse under CaMoron.

The Tories will need a new leader and get rid of some of the lib tories like Clark, Gove, Landsley for me to vote for them. I used to dislike John Redwood, but I have to say he is head and shoulders above Wet Dave. Lord Tebbit would be my ideal candidate.

CaMoron disappoints on a daily basis, shows utter contempt for Tory voters and has become an arrogant pompous arse.

This case is of such public interest it is difficult to envisage how the CPS with any credibility could not proceed. If Huhne had any honour or held his family in any regard he would resign. If McClegg had any understanding of the word leadership he would sack Huhne or at least make him resign.

Perhaps he could give the energy job to one of the 973,000 immigrants (572,000 immigrants, 241,000 overseas students and 160,000 asylum seekers) that entered the country last year and which he strongly supports and strongly resists change.

Um, forgive my pedantry, GOM, but the matter under investigation is not perjury. Perjury is the offence of deliberately giving false evidence under oath, and Huhne has not done that. The allegation under investigation by Essex Police is ‘attemptingto pervert the course of justice’, which makes a speeding offence pale by comparison.

In general, offences such as attempting to pervery the course of justice, contempt of court etc are taken very seriously by the judiciary, because they undermine the function of the judiciary itself. Invariably they result in custodial sentences, whether supended or otherwise.

Thus, Guido is quite right to make such a song and dance about this subject. People who say, why all this fuss over a minor speeding matter?’ are entirely missing the point, and gravity, of this subject.

    That's News says:

A raid on the home of a ‘star’ witness? Seizing of property from the home of said star witness?

Does that happen? Don’t they usually just invite said star witness to bring items to the police station, or just ask for them to be available for collection?

Or could it be that the police might have shifted their focus from ms Pryce being the star witness to being a star suspect?

What if Huhne had said to his then wife: “Oh, bugger, I am going to have to take a hit on my points. A speed camera got me” to which ms Pryce might have said: “Don’t worry. I’ll say I was driving. I’ll take the points”?

IF something like that had happened, then ms Pryce rather than Huhne would be seen to be the instigator of any alleged subsequent crimes. And she would them become a person of interest to the police.

As I have said before, this could become very interesting.

    • 159
      nell says:

      Err.

How does that make huhne innocent?

And as a minister of the crown should he not be blameless?

      • 177
        That's News says:

        It doesn’t make him innocent.

Look at it this way, if someone was to approach a desperate shop keeper and offer to help him burn his shop down for an insurance fiddle and then decides to go to the police and claims that the shop keeper came up with the idea and virtually forced him to set fire to the shop, the police would launch an investigation.

So the arsonist would be the police’s star witness.

But if the police found evidence that made it clear that the arsonist was the one who approached the shop keeper and not the other way round, then whilst the shopkeeper would still be guilty of his part in the arson/insurance fiddle, the arsonist would change from being a star witness and become the star suspect and the instigator in the conspiracy. And liable, if found guilty, to get the higher sentence because the shopkeeper could argue that if he had not been approached in the first place, he would not have thought of burning his shop down.

Rod Liddle on the loony UN sexism special rapporteur:

“There is more sexism in Britain than in any other country in the world, according to a mad woman who has been sent here by the United Nations.

Rashida Manjoo is a part-time professor of law at Cape Town University in the totally non-sexist country of South Africa (otherwise known as Rape Capital Of The World).

Mrs Magoo has been wandering around with her notebook and is appalled by the sexist “boys’ club” culture here, apparently.

I don’t doubt we still have sexism in the UK. But is it worse than in, say, Saudi Arabia, d’you think, honey-lamb? Or about 175 other countries? Get a grip, you doolally old bat.”
