No More UK Funded Spaceman by 2015
The UK gives £280 million a year to India in aid. They in turn give $5 billion a year to Africa. As Guido highlighted last week, they also have an aircraft carrier and a space programme, unlike the UK. Andrew Mitchell signalled that this would be coming to an end last weekend, but yesterday the Commons Development Committee weighed in, saying that the UK/India aid relationship must ”fundamentally change” and also that aid to India should end by 2015. Guido thinks that’s a slightly mealy-mouthed way of saying get rid of it.

Some of the richest people in UK are Indians, including the richest person in UK. Most of them still hold Indian passport not UK passport, they live here as non doms, so that they don’t have to pay UK or Indian tax.

I don’t understand how unemployment fell by 88,000 but number of people on dole increased by 20,000. I thought both go in the same way, unless unemployment is measured by a sample and number of people on dole is the real number.

They use criterion that suits them to give them the best figure for spin. EU contribution is £14 or £17 billion before rebate, however government tells us it is £10 billion which is the lowest possible figure after rebate. The ONS and government can not agree what the exact figure is. When talking in billions and accepting that we are, “in a dire fiscal position” it is surprising they can not get their figures right.
A bit like NET immigration. It is the lowest figure the government wishes to provide. The net immigration figure for last year was around 500,000.
However the government claimed it to be 242,000 because it did not include asylum seekers, overseas students, some of whom bring their family and are not counted in any figure.
Wet Dave was going to reduce immigration which is a concern to most people, except former socialist cuckoo Cable and close friend of Brown.
I forgot, the government does not know how many students return home. They are allowed to stay two years after the completion of their course- taking UK jobs and the government wonders why youth unemployment is so high. No joined-up thinking in government and no emotional intelligence.
Thought I was the only one to notice that, mystified? I am. I suspect the figure juggling involves some job seeker scheme which is not being counted as unemployed.

£650 million. That extra £50million doesn’t sound much, but it’ll buy the Taliban an awful lot of IEDs to use against British troops.
Why wait until 2015? Why not immediately? Fuck them. They wanted independence from their colonial ‘masters’. Let them stand on their own.
Simply change available aid to an export credit guarantee or soft loan facility for the intermediate period. That way if mr Mital wants to buy UK goods, the vendor gets some assistance and protection and our exports get a boost, thus improving the economy.
To be honest I would rather see the money used to lower taxes or pay down the debt. If the government looked at how much they spend on aid each year and used that to lower the taxes of the UK population then I think that would improve the economy more, especially as the government want us to spend our way out of the mess we are in
An export credit guarantee is worse than useless. If the buyer/recipient of the goods does not pay for them, the UK taxpayers have to.
If we don’t give them hard cash, then they won’t support our fellow EU states by buying stretched Mercs or French jets.
Incidentally, the UK used to give more aid in kind rather than as cash, so that it couldn’t be diverted & would employ UK workers rather than foreign ones. The aid agencies described that as colonialism so that we stopped it – unlike the French, for example.
We need to rip the heart of the government before it rips the heart out of our beloved countries. A wholesale re-appraisal of everything the government does at every level is needed. I bet we could save billions overnight. Aid to countries with space programmes and to tin-pot dictators and silly foreign wars causing the deaths of our servicemen and costing us billions and for what? Now the idiotic coalition have led us into another quagmire with Libya. How much is that costing us and for what? The PM thought it would be an easy vote winner. If it was really about human rights then he would have jets over Syria just now. Someone needs to give these guys a lecture in foreign policy and national interests.

Not at all. Labour and the Cons are indistinguishably vile. UKIP’s voters cost the Cons a majority, metaphorically kicking the Cons in the nuts – a real David Beckham kick: scrotum-splitting.
If they don’t ditch Cameron and become a proper Conservative Party, they get another kick in the nuts at the next general election and the next government will be Lib-Lab Coalition, probably introducing AV as part of the tie-up deal. The Cons will never form another majority government again.
If the Cons don’t like this, they know what they have to do.
Although it will not be AV… Nobody will dare suggest that again after the last fucking mess of a campaign. However the lib-labs will probably suggest some variant of PR, if that is what is required to prevent another tory majority.

I’m sick to the teeth of Cameron already. He’s like a dog chasing his tail and handing out money to other countries as if we are the richest nation on earth. Not only that but we have to borrow the money first to then give it away. Bloody hell, four mores years of this lot and we really will be bankrupt! Hopefully they’ll be a mass uprising against some of these limp-wristed policies before long.
Too many of these ‘conservatives’ were more concerned about power than standing up for the conservative values our country was built on. No-one voted for a 5 year fixed term parliament and yet they are giving us one. Self-righteous gits. It has almost been a year now and they have still to make any substantial headway with cutting the debt. Trying to inflate the debt away won’t work when they continue to borrow money and scatter it like confetti at a wedding.

All those holding high political office – in particular the premiership and chancellorship – should be LEGALLY REQUIRED to have at least an A-Level, or equivalent, in Maths. That would do something to improve the culture. Much numerical incompetence follows from too many politicians, across the divide, having nothing more than a GCSE or O-Level in Maths. Their education was too heavily weighted towards waffles, even if it was at Eton/Oxbridge.

The last government did not properly appreciate the sheer danger which the British economy is in. The continued wastage abroad suggests that, despite all the rhetoric, this current government does not properly do so either. They should be UTTERLY UNCOMPROMISING in averting a British economic meltdown akin to that of the early thirties, instead of wasting abroad precious resources of such CRITICAL significance within an already bankrupt Britain. So we are afflicted by ignorance of an historical as well a numerical nature.
