Dave Does Not Defend Huhne

The Prime Ministers Spokesman said Huhne “denies the allegations” eight times at this morning’s briefing. He also said that the Prime Minister has full confidence in the Secretary of State. Set the stopwatch.

Fast forward to Cameron’s NHS speech moments later, well more importantly the questions afterwards, and Cameron explicitly did not take the  opportunity to express his full confidence in Huhne. Lucy Manning of ITV asked “Do you have full confidence in Chris Huhne?” Dave merely said “he denies the allegations”. Read “if he’s lying, he’s out”

Tim Farron was optimistically spinning on the Daily Politics that Huhne wouldn’t have to go even if he was under police investigation, Guido isn’t so sure. Detective Superintendent Tom Wills of Essex Police is investigating whether to investigate “This is the work that my team and I will be carrying out this week.” It really shouldn’t take that long to interview two people and pull up a couple of forms…

Can i just add that this is a serous matter, perverting the course of justice whether you are a MP or a member of the public(tho there should be no difference) is a serious matter, The fact that under oath/admitting a crime you are giving false infomation to mislead the police , the courts and a jury makes you unsuitable to then write laws that others have to obey after showing such contempt for the Crimnal justice system and those who serve in it.

And what for? avoiding a 12 month ban? A few extra quid on the insurance? Chris Hunt must resign and if found not guilty then a comeback may be considered. If found guilty then he can join morley, Chaytor,Taylor and hannigfield, Macshane etc in facey justice that so far they have avoided.

All should be equal under the law, No ifs , No buts.

      Common sense voter says:

If Huhne is guilty and Cameron takes this seriously shouldn’t Cameron also take David Laws offences seriously. Saying he was hiding his sexuality doesn’t hide the fact that he was stealing from all of us and at £200 a week above the market rate apparently. Doesn’t this make him a common criminal? – Apparently Cameron doesn’t even want these people to have votes never mind be in the cabinet – Why no police involvement here when there is for Huhne?

There is talk of Cameron and Clegg welcoming Laws back into the cabinet shortly. Double standards of massive proportions methinks.

    Hard luck Chris Huhne

A senior detective has been tasked with investigating claims Lib Dem cabinet minister Chris Huhne asked someone else to take his penalty points for a 2003 speeding offence, Essex Police say.

If it is found an offence has been committed, a formal investigation will be launched, Det Supt Tim Wills said

When dealing with offences by people in the public eye, the the detective in charge needs first to thoroughly investigate whether or not it would harm his career if he attempts to prosecute.

It’s all a bit odd: speeding points are easy to check on both of their licences. My instinct is that it is true, but that he will rely on “his word against her word” as to who was driving the car, and the cops will be unable to prove anything.

They might if they still have the photo from the speed camera. They probably won’t though, since the speeding offence was some time ago – 2003, I think I saw somewhere.

Except Mrs Huhne was attending a high profile conference in London at the time of the offence.

        jaykay says:

She would have had to declare the date of the offence when she renewed her car insurance. If a copy of the application/renewal can be found and the date matches when she was at the conference that might take some explaining.

No, Not if he put her name forward as the driver without telling her and his handwriting is on the paperwork and she can prove she was elsewhere.

All he can fall back on then is that he got confused.

Dear of dear of dear oh dear, Fowler, if you drag any more of these across my threshold we shall have a very serious falling-out. I put my arse on the line and all you can do is stick up two fingers. Looks like the plot by Tories and Labour has worked, A return to two party politics, In just over 12 months they have destroyed the reputations of Vince Cable, David Laws (twice) , Chris Hunt and the media has helped by demonizing Nick Clegg (Mike Handcock didnt need any help), the dark arts are still the mosteefictive arts used in politics.

      Hugh Janus says:

Being Limp Dums (excluding Handycock of course), and given that their lust for power far outstrips their ability to handle it when it comes along, I don’t think they needed much help from either Call Me Dave or the nasally-challenged Buzz Lightweight.

Tom Harris bemoans the public’s attitude to politicians…

“Mr Oborne echoes the lazy, anti-politics whine we hear so often these days, all based on the absurd notion that politicians were once loved and only fell out of public favour during the expenses scandal. He should take a walk to the Strangers’ Bar. But not to sup with the patrons he seems to despise so much, dearie me, no; he should instead look at the paintings on the corridor outside the bar, which depict the devastating fire which consumed most of the Palace in 1834. And he should reflect on the fact that on that dramatic night, as the Commons went up in flames, a crowd gathered on the South Bank to clap and cheer.”

Focus group time. says:

The thing that Dave needs to work out is which group is more likely to vote Conservative. Mad swivel-eyed loons or mad homosexuals wishing to get married.
