A Pilgrimage to Westminster

Following exposés by both Guido and the Mail on Sunday into the activities of Jane Pilgrim, pressure is now mounting to make the practise of employing trades union officials full time on the taxpayer illegal. David Morris MP just raised this at today’s Health Questions:

“There have been press reports recently that money earmarked for frontline NHS services is being used by hospitals to pay salaries to Trade Union officials. Does my Rt Hon friend (Andrew Lansley) believe it is acceptable to spend taxpayers’ money on union hatchet people and will he order an urgent investigation.”

The reply came with the usual expectations of “behaving responsibly”. But Pilgrim’s activities did not go unnoticed in parliament and in councils around the country. Plates could well start to move on this issue soon…

The leader of Islington council has demanded an apology from David Cameron after a speech he made claiming that Islington Council was cutting frontline services instead of the salary of its chief executive.

In a speech made last week, Cameron slammed Islington Council’s Labour leaders for slashing services while not lifting a finger on the salary of its chief executive – despite the council already cutting its chief executive’s salary by £50,000.

Cllr Catherine West, Leader of Islington Council said: “What David Cameron has said is a lie; we have cut £50,000 from our chief executive’s salary. As a PR man by trade Mr Cameron should understand the importance of getting his facts right.

“Unlike Conservative controlled Bromley Council, Islington is not closing a single Children’s Centre, even though our percentage cut is more than twice the size of theirs.

“We have found over £25 million of back office efficiency savings, but the truth is that the Government has cut areas of great need, like Islington, by more than twice the national average.

“What David Cameron said is simply wrong and he should apologise to Islington for misleading its residents.”

We also have an empty sure start centre no one wants to go to and a mile away a newly built community centre which lets rooms out for free…(zumba teacher @ £3 per person making a killing), at a tax payer cost of £300K.

    MB. says:

It is ridiculous when MPs and Ministers are supposed to separate their expenses for purely party political activities from those associated with the constituency work but an employer has to pay the costs of a trade union representative who quite likely spends most of their time on what are effectively political activities.

Makes you wonder what the mugs who are members of unions pay their membership dues for until you remember the six figure sums the unions leaders are earning along with generous expense accounts.

the reason that Ministers need to separate their activities is because as Libcon has just identified with GRAYLING, the relationship between ‘free’ assistance from a private sector operation and the future award of contracts is much much more lucrative

Jane Pilgrim is a fucking ugly c unt who wouldn’t last a minute in the private sector. She’s a useless Labour/union shill in an artificial non-job created by Blair and Brown to put hundreds of thousands of party cronies like her in high paying positions that enable them to go on staff jollies to Wagamama and John Lewis at our expense. Fuck the lot of them. U Termison says:

She is doing what the taxpayer pays her for.

You may not like the fact the taxpayer pays for her role but don’t blame her for that. Blame the system.

I, too, agree Unions and their members should pay for that role.

However I am not going to slaughter the character of a warm, caring, considerate Nurse whose only motivation is to make life better for her patients.

          • Anonymous says:

did she never consider that her wages which were taking money out of the NHS might be better used for patients then? Not once considered doing union stuff voluntarily to help society? Maybe she shouldn’t have lied about hearing something at a meeting.

          • U Termison says:

Perhaps she meant to say that someone told her what was said at the meeting.

Without the people to deliver the overall service, both frontline and back office, then there is no NHS.

What matters is does Jane give value for money. Is she a caring professional. Does she make the NHS a better place.

On all I would state an emphatic YES.

When was the last time Nurse P worked on the wards then?

You know. The usual stuff – changing dressings, swilling out bedpans, passing out meds and keeping patient charts up to date.

My bet is that she said Goodbye To All That! decades ago and that her current professional development in nursing practice reflects that notion.

        • 97
          U Termison says:

What does that have to do with anything ?

Jane’s career path has taken her in a different direction.

She is using her experience in other areas. Not every nurse is on the wards you know.

I just find this savaging of a caring professional by a rabid mob for simply expressing a view to be disgusting.

The Conservative politician has accused the Labour and Liberal Democrat groups, which had the budget passed with support from Green councillors ten days ago, of shirking responsibility for making cuts…

Coun Hawkesworth has warned that the budget has left officers to find £14 million of efficiency savings in the coming year as part of the Changing our Council programme…

The rival budget drawn up by the Conservatives called for a £250,000 reduction in the Council’s subsidy of trade union convenors.

The cost of hot meals delivered by Bradford’s Meals on Wheels is set to soar by 88 per cent.

Bradford Council will stop subsidising the service for vulnerable, elderly people from the end of this month.

It will save the local authority £250,00.
