Illsley Not Really Resigning

He says in his statement he is “winding down his office” and will stand down before his next court appearance – which is in a month. Based on past precedent he’ll get sentenced to more than a year in jail at his next court appearance and would therefore lose his membership of parliament anyway without resigning. Meantime he’ll claim more than £5,000 further off the taxpayers he has already been convicted of robbing…

If he’s ‘winding down his office’, then he isn’t fucking working, ergo, he shouldn’t be getting paid.

He’s been fucking convicted, so any payments whether they be salary or otherwise should be halted, in-fucking-definitely…

    Fucking fat, pie shaped prick…!

Amount stolen is not small, but is less than £17,500. Custodial terms from the very short to 21 months.

Discount should be given for a guilty plea

    http://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/docs/web_case_compendium.pdf

So he could well get less than a year Chaytor’s crime was in the 2–3 years’ custodial sentence bracket

      Plea bargain says:

Illsley was originally accused of dishonestly claiming £25,00 and this is why he probably pleaded guilty yesterday of thieving a revised sum of £14,500. It brings him below the £17,500 threshold. I suppose some pleas bargaining occured between the defence and the prosecution. He will almost certainly spend less than 12 months in jail.

Stepping down as an MP before the sentencing will probably win him some more time off the length of his custodial sentence.

      Minekiller says:

The fact that you can still be an MP despite being convicted and imprisoned for theft, really just sums up how shabby the ‘profession’ of politics really is. Of course, “it’s all within the rules”.

      • 128
Lady Virginia Droit de Seigneur says:

If politics was a proper profession it would have binding rules on conduct and breaking those rules and bringing the profession into disrepute would attract disciplinary measures. Doing so to a degree that criminal charges relating to the profession are successfully brought (and likely followed by a prison sentence) would likely result in a membership suspension and expulsion following a swift disciplinary hearing.

This sort of prevarication and unseemly clinging on show exactly why politics is not a profession – in fact it is more like racketeering.

What about duck islands and moat cleaning, does that not count even if they payed some or all of it back, I think we should be told, after all if such as GF had not been rooting about nothing would hve been said. All this started under the mighty Maggie MPs could have a pay rise but they could put things on expenses, nudge-nudge, wink-wink in the early 1980′s when GF was a young teenager. I think it would be very interesting to see all the early expense forms of MPs.

He was charged with making fraudulent claims of £25k and maintained complete innocence until “suddenly” admitting to £14.5k of the fraud. The prosecution was unable to present the case for the full amount (and possibly present further incidents). It does NOT mean that the taxpayer has seen justice – we have been cheated.

Many questions remain unanswered. An immediate custodial sentence was a fairer outcome and not a deferred sentencing that ultimately costs more to the public purse.
