You do know that Rupert Murdoch owns 38% of the newspapers in this country?

You do know that Rupert Murdoch kicked the BBC off the Star satellite because he thought it was upsetting the communist Chinese government too much?

You do know that Rupert Murdoch’s channels in the USA give lots and lots of money to the Republican party, which you do know is the (very) right wing party there?

You do know that Rupert Murdoch wants to own 100% of Sky, which has an admittedly unwatched news channel.

go back to sleep yawn, hopefully you will wake up back in the 1960s of 70s when such hilarious comedians as Bernard Manning were delighting the nation. Aldo says:

In 1934 we did not have the benefit of hindsight in relation to the events of WW2. Churchill praised the blackshirts on occasion. Initially, there were many elements of fascism to be admired.

Only fools judge history by today’s standards.

        • 255
          statist says:

yeah, Musolini made teh trainz run on time or somefing like that

Thanks for your moral cultural relativist viewpoint, I’ll bring that up next time you are arguing against female genital mutilation, and all that good stuff.

Get this into your thick head – there is right and there is wrong, it doesn’t matter what point in history an action occurs, it is completely irrelevant to whether it is morally right or morrally wrong?

Churchill like the blackshirts? So what? He was wrong then and is wrong now. Oh but wait I remember now, conservative logic again – if someone in authority says it, it must be right.

          • Aldo says:

Mussolini wiped out the mafia. Hitler got Germany back on its feet and restored it to wealth and power. If they had just stopped there and not gone any further they would be hailed as heroes today. However they didn’t and they aren’t. However people living in 1934 couldn’t have foresaw that. Nazism and fascism were simply seen as alternative political systems – a bit like communism. The capitalist west was still suffering the after effects of the ’29 crash and economic depression and people were on the lookout for a different system – a better, fairer, more effective way of running a society. They did not have our knowledge of what came next and should not be judged by today’s standards.

          • statist says:

They might have been praised by fools like you but not by me.

The means does not justify the ends.

Try to reflect on that simple moral maxim which most normal human beings accept as self-evidently true, then come back and justify totalitarianism with your imbecilic “he made the trains run on time” logic.

          • Aldo says:

I think what you meant to say was “the ends do not justify the means”. I’m afraid, in the real world, they do – otherwise you’re saying that our mass bombing of the axis powers in order to win the war was unjustified in itself. It was a horrible thing, but good came of it – which made it worthwhile.

As for getting the trains running on time, I’ve often heard that quoted. They also ended hyperinflation, mass poverty, lawlessness, unemployment, took a nation that was broken and made it a world power. What Hitler achieved in the years prior to WW2 was nothing short of a miracle. As I say, if he’d just left it at that, he would’ve been the Nelson Mandela of his day – revered across the world. The USSR would have been kept at bay also. No wonder people in the mid 1930s supported Hitler and Mussolini. You’ve just got to put yourself in the shoes of someone living back then which means dropping your right on, 21st century liberalism and disregarding all of history after 1934.

          • statist says:

            classic moral relativism.

        • 267
          statist says:

oh wait I see – it is perfect conservative logic.

You need the “benefit of hindsight” to decide whether fascism and discrimination is right or wrong.

This is because you need to be told, (by some authority eg God / tradition / church / nation) what is right and what is wrong.

Good thing most people in this country prefer to think for themselves.

          • Anonymous says:

Like the unions and the Left that did not support the war against fascism until Russia was attacked-waiting to be told by someone in Soviet authority

          • statist says:

or like lovely laissez-faire capitalist USA who didn’t join the war until 2 years later and only when it was directly attacked. (Cameron didn’t know this fact, and neither does anyone on the rightwing it seems)

In the meantime the US profiteered by selling us desperately needed goods and raw materials to fight the war, leaving us with debts we only finished paying off sometime in the 1990s.

          • Aldo says:

You need the benefit of hindsight to know how something is going to turn out. So maybe there was overt discrimination against Jews in Germany in and prior to 1934. There was also overt discrimination against intellectuals, religious people and the middle classes in communist states all through the 20th century – and people are still advocating far left politics as a viable alternative to liberal democracy even today. No doubt a few of those students who smashed up tory HQ last week think Stalin was a nice guy. You seem quite obsessed with what the daily mail said in 1934 – perhaps you should be more concerned with what the morning star is saying now.

          • The Bottle Fed Triplet says:

No Statist, we still owe some dosh, mind you the US of A were still paying off debts for their civil war to the UK up to 1963.

I thought we managed to pay the whole lot off a few years ago?

Oh well at least when you employ mercenaries, you don’t have to thank them. Whenever the yank says “you’d be speaking russian if it wasn’t for us” I always say “err, we paid you for your services, we’ll say thank you if we want and we’ll tell you to fuck off if we want as well, that’s the capitalist way!”

          • bodo says:

The Grun and the Mirror both spoke fondly of Hitler.

Does the Mail still have the same editor as in 1934? If so he should be sacked.

Or are you in fact just spouting 6th form student drivel?

And what is it with you lefties – according to you the baddies in WW2 were not the Germans, or the Japs… nooo, its those damned Yanks isn’t it.
Why are you playing down the horrors of WW2 fascism which you claim to abhor. Unless of course….

          • statist says:

They spoke “fondly” of hitler, so much and so often that you can’t actually find a single quote or headline.

Here’s 2 from the Daily Mail – “hurrah for the blackshirts”, and an editorial titled “Youth Triumphant” in support of Adolf Hitler, later used by his propagandists.

Any concrete examples from the guardian you would like to cite? Just one woud do,… Buelller…..Buelllerr……..

The mail is owned by the same family as in 1934, the editor does what the owner says, unless you live in some happy fantasy land where they are always independent of each other, oh wait, this is the right wing we are talking about so perhaps you do live in such a land.

Please point out exactly where I said the yanks were baddies. You won’t be able to because I didn’t say it. But hey, lying is fine on the right. What I said was that, like a good capitalist, Britain paid for the services rendered by the yanks during the war, therefore we should not have to say thanks if we don’t ‘want to – the customer is always right.

What the Guardian thought of Hitler

The newspaper went on to claim, remarkably, that Hitler was “definitely Christian in his ideals”.

The Guardian thought on September 25 1930 that the exclusion of the Nazi party from Reich government, given its electoral success, was not in the best interests of German democracy and that their involvement would “in the long run … help to perpetuate this democracy”.

They’re so wrong so often it’s a pleasure to read – were it not for the fact that their mistakes helped to almost disarm Britain during those crucial years.

          • Wm T Sherman says:

You, a cynical and highly repetitive troll, add to the discussion in some way? I had not noticed.

Perhaps you see the problem here.

Well, OK Sparky. My reaction is, I hope the new government is more to your liking in this regard. And I hope that in the future you can refrain from attempting to use your country’s honorable war dead to score a transparent cheap propaganda point. We all sneer when hack government officials do it. And so likewise, I sneer at you.

          • statist says:

thanks for the sneering, it really addressed the point about deporting human beings and their children to places we know they will be tortured and killed

he means that you insulted me instead of addressing my point about asylum seeker’s children being deported to fairly certain death.

          • Wm T Sherman says:

My point, Statist, was that I did not see sincerity in the point you claim to be making. Based on the predelictions you display I tend to see you bringing it up likely as a means to some other ends.

If innocents are being deported from the UK to certain torture or death then I am against it. Who wouldn’t be?

But – are they? That kind of allegation is made all the time from the left end of the political spectrum, and in my experience often turns out to be overwrought, cynical propaganda.

By choice, you radiate the international call sign of of The Leftist Who Cried Wolf.

I will look into this – since I had not heard of it before. But if I don’t take your word for it, or even dismiss it out of hand, it’s your own damned fault for intentionally appearing unreliable, and that simple reality is actually a relevant subject in and of itself, I think.

And the cynical concern trolling about the spirit of Remembrance Day genuinely irritated me since I see the same sort of thing in the States.

          • Can't remember my moniker says:

I’d take the credit even if not deserved DtP! There are plenty of times when you will have deserved the credit and not got it. You have to take your rewards (as with your pleasures) when you can, I have found out in this life.

As for Burma, yes the highly self-paid generals are independent but the ordinary people are not. Just one of the many countries in the world where the gun counts for more than democracy and where to be in the army is the ultimate goal. Look at the situation in Guinea-Conakry. Run-off elections were held on November 7th (after four delays) and the outcome is still awaited whilst the votes are tampered with.

Three strong men have ruled it since 1958. Last year soldiers went on a rampage of rape, mutilation, and murder. The bodies were dumped out to sea so that they would not be seen on TV and they put people who had died in the hospitals in their place. Unsurprisingly, no relative was able to identify their loved one. That is as evil as it gets. Even Hitler did not think of that.

Blair is an agent of One World Government. So too are Cameron and Clegg. All see being leaders in Britain as a stepping stone to international, lucrative careers within the secret government they serve.

In other words The New World Order is hidden in plain sight, thanks in no small way to THE BBC, Murdoch, and the rest of the MSM. These groups are not in anyway in competition with each other, they exist only to pleasurably suck each other cocks, and obey orders from way above themselves. Prime Ministers are not even as high up the pecking order as our chief civil-servants. More like assistant sales directors of medium sized multi-national companies. With less power to make important decisions affecting the company then the head tea-lady.

A bit like the BBC hides things such as politicians sanity threatening drugs/drinking habits, corrupted expense claims, or highly illegal and immoral sexual practices, until they are instructed to tell all, as if the information was some kind of news. When the reality is that they all knew the whole truth many years ago, they just did not bother telling us.

The BBC knows all about the New World Order. Blair,Brown, and now Clegg and Cameron go on about there masters much beloved scam constantly to selected audiences, while the media concentrate the publics attention on the colour of Camerons tie, or far less then completely non-existent spending cuts.

The truth is that if it is not BBC headline news, preferably broadcast sometime during an episode of X-Factor, then as far the the great unwashed are concerned, it may as well not be happening at all, for all they know, or can do about it.

We get what we are given, whether we like it or not. This is as true today as it has always been. Democracy is now, and always has been an utter sham, a West End show at best, or Hollywood at worst.

The utter contempt that our leaders so obviously have for us is TOTTAL and absolute. They don’t just think we are stupid, they KNOW we are. Or at least they know a vast majority of us are either clinically thick, totally dependent on them for their very survival anyway, or simply uninterested in any more then which football player is shagging which other football players wife.

Which is all the proverbial THEY need to know, to do whatever they please.

Quite frankly I don’t even know why they bother with the illusion these days. For very soon they will not have to bother with the acting anymore, because there already is absolutely bugger all we can or will do about it.

“Unlike Britain, you mean, which just got on with defending themselves from the German attack then advancing into Germany?”

The difference being that Britain gave help to occupied countries and countries attacked by the Germans, like the Soviets. The Soviets did not do that, they refused to allow the RAF use Soviet airfields to fly supplies to the Warsaw Uprising and think they were obstructive in other cases when the RAF wanted to use their airfields.

Many Poles who escaped from Poland at the start of the war were held by the Soviets, one book I read described how he was basically used as slave labour by them. He eventually managed to contact the Free Poles and join their forces, he was got out on a train of them sent to Persia – many “married” Polish widows as the only way they could get them out of the USSR was by pretending to be someone’s wife.

I always wonder how many escaped Western POWs or evaders disappeared into the Soviet labour camps, never to be heard of again. I suspect that there quite a number.

This is what the state should do, and not spend any money at all on, say, nurses or doctors, which are a waste of money because they help people stay alive.

What the state should obviously spend money on is “defence” – where “defence” is defined as any form of war whatsoever, as long as some BS story can be invented by the same state employed retards. Got it? Defence means attack, security means getting murdered by the police, intelligence service means lying service – it’s simple right-wing logic.

List of differences begins – I’ll kick off with the abolition of Glass-Steagal.

A sensible, conservative, state imposed regulation on the free market. It existed for most of the period 1934 to 2010. It now doesn’t exist. It is a significant difference between the post war economy and the current economy.

The current economy is experiencing pre-Glass-Steagal Act problems.

I’ll continue the list after I’ve given you time to respond to this obvious and significant difference

There is a schedule of Muslim behavior that is determined by their percentage of the population. France is past the 10% level, commonly known as the “Car-Be-Que” or “Flaming Renault” threshold. Lebanon went past the 50% level in the early 1970s, the “Christians Start Vanishing in the Middle of the Night at Improvised Checkpoints” threshold. Right now it’s what, about 3% in Britain? That’s right at the “behave in a classless diseased hateful manner in public” level. Other more confrontational features of the Islamic software will kick in according to the schedule.

Alone in death as he was in life. As a young child I remember being woken late at night up by him sitting on my bed. h He’d come to say goodbye. Very shy trying not to cry. Trying to say thank you. * a life-insurance policy,
      * a mortgage,
      * an ISA,
      * stocks and shares,
      * a loan,
      * savings accounts,
      * current accounts?

Or, indeed, receiving benefits or salaries?

Clearly, in the minds of the delusional Left, these rare elements of economic activity are now reserved for wealthy toffs under intentionally cruel Tory legislation.

Yes, two world wars were brave men and women gave their lives for freedom, democracy and our independant sovereign state.

What a pity that scum bag politicians made their scarifice in vain, signing up to an organization whose president , Rompuy, proudly procalims that the idea of independant nation states has had it’s day. Then we have Blair who has done his masters bidding with others paying the price in blood.

The hipocrisy of politicians turning up at the cenotaph, when they have effectively wandered through the lines of war graves; urinating on them. Not to mention two completely unecessary wars which will have no winner and cost more brave people their lives.

Freedom is nothing to celebrate here, it has been signed away self serving dishonest politicians. May they rot in hell for all eternity. And no, eternity is not long enough.

Indeed, who can forget the image of Brown skulking in to sign the Lisbon treaty on his own, in the hope that his treachery would somehow be lessened by this ridiculous display.

Add to this , the useless and inefectual Cameron, and we have a day which might well be devoted to a requiem for freedom.

So far as I’m concerned those who died in wars fighting for their country, their families that are left behind, and the servicemen and women that are fortunate enough to come home, have a right to expect the powers that be to show their respect for the hardship they went through and the sacrifices that they made, at least on this one day of the year.

For the most part they do that. Yes you get the sallybercow’s, or like last year the disrespecful gordon. I noticed militwit looked like a petulant little boy who was carrying out a forced chore who really wanted to be playing with his toys.

Not his fault of course but I really do think we’re taking this ‘inclusiveness’ idea a bit too far when we have (as we did under Labour) an entire government of imbeciles. Why not have a few coma patients in there too. Maybe get a psychic octopus to determine Labour policy.

I mean why is it okay to have an imbecile like Johnson as (shadow) chancellor? There goes that Labour rewriting of history again.

The st*n and Ir*q are Labour wars.

Ir*q, purely, in my opinion to try and emulate the electoral ‘lift’ that Thatcher got over the Falklands. Quick war, massive US involvement. What could go wrong? I’ll be a fucking hero. Margaret Thatcher eat your heart out.

And The Maximum Imbecile (and the rest of them) went along with it purely to keep their feet under the table. Ready for Bl*ir to move on so that they could have a go at being terribly important and calling COBRA meetings.

as I said, its’ been going on for a while, since at least 1934 when, lest we forget, the Daily Mail’s headline was “hurrah for the blackshirts”.

Too bad we didn’t do away with the government entirely in 1997 and let the newspapers run the country.

Of course if the media has no power to influence public opinion, you lot on this site would have no reason to carp about the bbc, and Alistair Cun-tball wouldn’t have threatened them when they didn’t line up for Bliar’s war. But you do and he did.

Regardless, it was those fearless class-warriors of the left – Alan Johnson, Harriet Harman, John Prescott, The Maximum Imbecile who took one look at their ‘principles’ and then shrugged their shoulders and went along with it.

Yes we lost 885k men in WW1 Guido.

My mother was 2 then and her and every family in her village lost at least one of their men. Her family lost 3, it was a common occurrence. I was actually thinking about them today, because it was in 1920 , 90 years ago today, that the families from that village joined with other villages and launched their memorial to all those young men who never came home.

But we should never forget, we didn’t do it alone. In Flanders Field Museum in Ypres there stands a rather sobreing exhibition to every one of the nationalities that fought in WW1. There were sixty nations in all. Drawn from every continent on earth. Most were fighting on our side.

In total the Allies lost 5,700,000 men mostly in combat.

UK sacrificed 885,000, the Indian Subcontinent 315,000, Australia 61,000, Canada 64,000, New Zealand 18,000 and on and on…….

If only we taught still history in schools (as a continuous narrative stream, not the present farce of selected highlights); if only there were a proper two-year compulsory course in citizenship; if only the ‘community leaders’ with the big mouths had any sense of what this country is about.

If only we had heeded the warnings of Mr Powell. Now he was a man who understood this country and had fought for it, rising from the ranks to brigadier (I think), but he was jettisoned by the blow-dried, confirmed bachelor Heath, who also betrayed the Commonwealth (which had fought for us in two wars) in order to get us into the EEC (much of which had fought against us in at least one war).

And the EEC/EU in turn is betraying us as it morphs into the United States of Europe. Where are the politicians of Powell’s character now; now, when we need them most?

          jgm2 says:

The crash did not start in the USA. It started in Ireland. Their housing bubble burst first. Then the yanks. Then ours.

But you’re right about our Maximum Imbecile aping the economic policies of the USA. I don’t think you can really blame the yanks though in that context. They didn’t force the Maximum Imbecile to adopt their policies.

The Maximum Imbecile didn’t have to ape the yanks idiot economic policies – low interest rates, deficit spending, illusory growth based on runaway house prices and record consumer and state borrowing.

He could have stopped that overnight. At any time. Him being chancellor and all. Him being so prudent and all.

          But he didn’t.

Just as Ireland was fucked irrespective of what the USA was doing so were we fucked irrespective of the USA. It was a confluence of idiocy which we could easily have side-stepped (just as Canada, Australia and China side-stepped it) if we hadn’t had an utterly incompetent, economy-wrecking imbecile as chancellor.

          • statist says:

right, so, I agree with all that, but here’s the problem –

A US economic depression as the result of mentalist rightwing ideology is a UK problem regardless of the UK’s own policies.

Blair and Brown should have pursued leftwing economic policies, not rabidly right wing ones, because rapidly right wing economic policies cause the kinds of economic depressions that result in world wars.

also learn the difference between correlation and causation – Irelands housing bubble went bust before the USA’s but the one did not cause the other – both would have happened anyway, because such rabidly rightwing economic fundamentalism inevitably causes its own demise, with disasterous, world-war-causing risks for the rest of the world.

Hence, to lessen the risks of world wars, don’t follow rabidly rightwing economic policies, follow leftwing or at least centrist ones.

          • jgm2 says:

I’m the big advocate around here for correlation as opposed to causation. I’m the one constantly pointing out that (like I*el*nd) the UK’s economy was fucked irrespective of sub-prime in the US.

We had our own sub-prime problem – as evidenced by Northern Rock – no hint at all there of Yankee CDO’s or whatever shit the Labour apologists like to blame their incompetent stewardship of the UK economy on. The UK economy was living on borrowed time from about 2004/5. Prior to that the situation might have been manageable with minimum disruption. After that we were fucked.

Reckless UK bank, consumer and government borrowing. The yanks are only a convenient scapegoat for the Maximum Imbecile. The problem of course is that the folk mythology is that it’s all the yankee banks fault. And that the only mistake the UK banks made was accepting their CDOs. The narrative is that if only the UK banks hadn’t bought those yankee CDO’s then there’d be no fucking problem at all. The UK banks would still be magically lending UK consumers 200bn quid a year, the government would be raking 50% of that back in tax (so 100bn of discretionary taxation flattering the figures every year) and we’d ‘only’ be running 40bn quid a year deficits.

You can argue all you like if Labour is/was left-wing or right-wing but the fact is that it is Labour who fucked the UK economy and since the shadow cabinet are 99% the self-same MPs that cheerlead the last 13 years while the Maximum Imbecile fucked the UK economy then I don’t think we should be looking to them for any solutions. Particularly when they’re still denying the cause.

          • statist says:

Irrespective of who is promoting them, we should not support rightwing economic policy. I agree. I’m not defending brown, sorry if I didn’t make that clear.

Irrespective of the UK’s economic policy, the world economy still gets screwed if the largest world economy does follow a self-destructive rightwing economic policy.

We are not out of the woods yet, a double dip in the US will still royally feck up all of the economies of the world, despite the socialisation of those bank losses, and despite whatever policies brown or any leader had pursued in the UK.

And the last time we had such a double dip was 1929, which led to the deaths we are commemorating. So lets never adopt right wing economic policy again ok?

          • jgm2 says:

I don’t know why you’re so keen to characterise it as ‘right-wing’ economic policy. I would merely characterise it as sh1t economic policy. Or incoherent economic policy.

I’d have thought ‘right-wing’ economic policy would have involved living within your means and not running up average annual 30bn quid deficits all through a boom.. At least that’s what I understand by C*ns*rv*t*ve.

I think you’re allowing your Daily Mail-hating prejudices to blind you to the fact that Labour fucked the UK economy not because they were right-wing or left-wing. But because they were incompetent, incoherent, wicked, malicious, evil and, well, mostly just S*H*I*T.

Clinton abolished separation of investment and retail banking at the behest of rightwing economists and right wing capitalist economic theorists. Inevitably we got to the state we are in now, because politicians want to get elected not do what is best in the long term.

but guess when that separation was instituted? – after the depression of 1929. Reduce the role of the state in the economy and oh dear, it’s increased risk of world war again. Thanks rightwing economics!

Replace “competition/capitalism” with “cooperation” and the statement is still true.

Humans are both competitive and cooperative, both attitudes produce optimum long-term outcomes in differing circumstances.

The trick is not to blindly stick to one or the other despite the circumstances. In any case – the maxim “Act competitively” doesn’t mean anything out of its context.

          • statist says:

heh beastie made some sweeping generalisations, no historical references there at all!

It’s regulated capitalism that capitalism inevitably tries to undo.

As a capitalist, you have a duty to maximise shareholder value, if you do not maximise this you are morally in the wrong. This is a result of treating corporations like human beings. They are not – corporations are only competitive and never cooperative. Enshrine the nonsense that a corporation is like a human being in law and bingo – you have self-destruction at the expense of society.

          • White Van Man (late night edition) says:

            1. “corporations are only competitive and never cooperative” are you sure about that tat?

            2. “a corporation is like a human” who the fuck said that?

            3. So basically competitive corporations in the end result in a
“self-destruction at the expense of society” really, as opposed to your ‘zanu’ alternative which is what?

            4. “13eastie made some sweeping generalisations, no historical references there at all” What do you expect a detailed list from 5000BC to 2000AD? Oh I beg to differ tat, the fact that he can generalize in such a fashion and still be correct historically over all tells you all you need to know on the subject.

          • statist says:

Yes I’m sure about it because its the logical extreme of capitalism, and once this logic is enshrined in law, it causes a problem.

A corporation is so called because it is treated like a corporus – a person under the law, and a real person has protection via bankruptcy. The corporation’s debts are socialised, just like a real person who goes bankrupt.

Except an individual can’t ever possibly rack up debt of more than the whole world’s GDP like the banks did once Glass-Steagal was repealed.

Corporations (banks) can and did rack up such debts. Therefore they should not be treated like normal individual human beings. They should not be allowed to simply decalre bankrupcy on the back of some really dumb bets.

Corporations must compete, it’s their duty. Individual humans don’t have to always compete, they can be altruistic for example, which is what the founders of most world religions try to point out.

      Ruth Kelly's plaything says:

In my view, they never stopped. All the way from the days when class warfare was explicitly their driving force (you could argue from the Peasants’ Revolt onwards, but as a revolting peasant I’ll content myself with, say, the early 1900s as the relevant datum) they’ve sought to depress the rich in the hope that it would raise up the poor.

The old goat Lloyd George (a Liberal, interestingly) really began the rot with his (? 1909?) budget that introduced death duties with the aim of smashing the great estates, in which he was largely successful. Thank heaven that the National Trust was there to help pick up the pieces and preserve some superb architecture which, no doubt, the red-eyed clochards of Labour would have wished to level to the ground.

When Labour took over from the Libs as the radical party they sought to continue this tradition, but were somewhat hampered by (a) being unable to win many elections and (b) when they did get elected, having a PM who was more realistic than his ideologue followers (Ramsy MacDonald, the great traitor).

Since the war, however, they have pursued their vendetta against anyone who might achieve anything (‘elitist’), crushing the best hope of the bright kid from a poor home by abolishing grammar schools, taxing as hard as they could, giving away or wasting the proceeds on daft schemes and generally behaving like economic illiterates.

The last 13 years of their rule gave them the chance to smash the best pension arrangements in the world, via Brown’s £5bn annual tax raid. That took away one of the keys to independence possessed by the uncompliant middle class and gave them the idea of giving money to all, so that everyone should feel beholden to the State. And it’s worked. Look at what’s happened recently – people with family incomes of £100k+ complaining about the removal of child benefit!

One needs no more evidence than to hear the sneers about cabinet ministers who have been lucky enough to receive a superb education, one that we would all wish for our children. Instead of admiring what the top public schools do and seeking to emulate them in the State sector, they decry it with jeers of ‘toff’ and ‘snob’.

Labour are a bunch of nihilistic shits who hate what this country used to be but who, once they have achieved their aim of reducing us to the system and status of Cuba, will turn round and whine that someone ought to have warned them.

Phew, I feel better for that. Not terribly coherent, I’m certain, but remarkably cathartic!

Now for a beaker full of the warm south, with beaded bubbles winking at the brim and purple-stained mouth (in the Comps, do they teach the output of dead, white European males, I wonder? My grammar-school was full of ‘em.).

Just termed anybody who disagreed with their imbecile politics as ‘T*ry, or Daily Mail reader or Racist’ or some other pigeonhole which, by their personal moral code, allows them to simply ignore their warnings.

jgm2 is a banker. Ignore him

I am not now, nor have I ever been a banker nor worked in the finance industry. I am a (retired) geophysicist. No, that’s not related to banking.

Is this that old Labour thing where if anybody threatens the orthodoxy of ‘it started in America’ then they have to be smeared?

      Thought so.

      It’ll be ‘racist’ next.

      Can't remember my moniker says:

By contrast, I was a banker. I said around the millennium that it would all go wrong and walked away from it. It took a few years but it did go wrong. It is my opinion that there is no one left of any great experience in the industry who knows how to put it right. The people who get paid telephone number salaries and bonuses think they know it all but, in fact, they know nothing. I was very well paid in my time but it was nothing compared to these clowns.

One thing I can say with certainty though. Even if I were to be offered Bob Diamond’s pay package to go back and sort it out (most unlikely anyway), I would not be tempted. I am much happier out of it and can watch these ‘legends-in-their-own-minds’ rise high like rockets until they burn themselves out and fall inevitably back to earth, as charred sticks.

I prophesy that the next banking crisis will occur within the next twenty years, or less. It will dwarf the one we have just experienced and will result in wholesale bank failures around the world. Govenments will be powerless to prevent this as the liabilities will be too geat for them to underwrite. The potential knock-on effects are likely to be a rise in protectionism, breakdown in many states and super-states (like the EU) and possibly even warfare. I hope I am wrong but I fear I am not.

It’s just a question of magnitude. Ireland is utterly fucked because they started with fuck all and managed to over-borrow to the point where their stats suggested their GDP per capita was several thousand pounds a year greater than than the UK. Although not enough to actually end up a net contributor to the EU. Fuck no.

It would be like Bangledesh, over the course of 15 years, ending up with a property boom (Build on this delta – you can’t go wrong with property Mahmoud, sure everyone’s doing it Mahmoud) and a per capita income greater than the UK.

But who lobbies relentlessly for the repeal of perfectly sensible economic policies such as Glass-Steagal? Corporations can lobby forever and unless we have a strong state control of the economy, eventually they will break down even perfectly sensible conservative legislation like Glass-Steagal. And if the US does it, you can bet vain but not malicious politicians in the UK wiill do it to.

    Cynical Old Man says:

Statist is being selective with his history (typical leftie).

Leader of the Blackshirts was Oswald Moseley who was originally a LABOUR politician.

The Commies and other Marxist hangers on in Britain applauded Stalin when Molotov signed the so called “Pact of Steel” with Hitler. Their secret agreement to carve up Poland encouraged Hitler to effectively start WW2. No criticism of this shabby deal from this countries lefties then. In fact they actually opposed any war with Germany.

By the way, tell us again, how many millions of deaths (murders?) of innocent people was Stalin responsible for? Many more than Hitler sanctioned. In fact Stalin made old Adolph look like an amateur at slaughtering human beings. Add to Stalin’s total the millions of deaths “good old socialists” Mao Tse Tung, Pol Pot, Fidel Castro and Kim Il Sung have sanctioned and it shows Left Wing politics is far more evil than any right wing ideology.

So Mr. Statist, you carry on waving the red flag and insulting those with different opinions to you. History proves you to be the one adhering to a dangerous, totalitarian ideology no matter how you try to twist the argument.
