London Fire Strikes Get Illegal Support

Secondary picketing is illegal in this country. So why is the RMT turning out at the London Fire Brigade Union protest? Is Bob calling in the comrades?

Note the massive RMT banner…

It is interesting to note that 22 MPs are sponsored by the RMT including London MPs Dianne Abbott, Stephen Pound , John McDonnell and Jeremy Corbyn. Will there be a wall of silence from these normally outspoken MPs? What role is Bob Crowe playing in these strikes?

      We wouldn’t start a fire
      No we didn’t light it
      It was the …..

managements intransigence in meeting our demand that caused the fire and they are responsible if anyone gets hurt… not us..oh now…we are blameless for our own actions.

No. Sky, ITV are much better and cheaper on the taxpayer’s pocket. How many news readers do the BBC actually need to retain? Time for huge cuts in the BBC and stop the imposed licence tax. Useless socialist propoganda machine acting way beyond its remit of an independent broadcaster. Time for change, we just need a politician with the courage to bring it about- sadly, that will not be gutless Dave or Nick.

          • Bill Quango used to tell some good jokes then he became a Tory stooge says:

Goodness me, Bill, you really hate the unions, don’t you?

            Very telling indeed.

          • I’m a member of two unions.

          • Eric Pickles will have blood on his hands says:

            Stranger and stranger.

What unions are you a member of?

          • ex-working class kid from up North says:

Well I’m not a member of any trade union – never have been, never will be. They are a bunch of pig-ignorant, arrogant spongers. Since when did you ever see a union leader out on strike? No loss of pay for them. They get their idiot, brain-dead moronic members to do all the dirty work – more fool them. If they don’t like their working conditions then leave and get another job – or work for yourself, like me. They just don’t have the guts. Fuck em.

          • I cannot say but you can guess. One is a major Labour contributor, despite labour shafting them regularly. I’m the loan voice of moderation which no one listens to.

The last strike was about as effective as the BA one. Look at those chumps.
They are now having to try and hold out long enough just for a return to the situation they enjoyed before they manned the barricades.
I know a senior adviser on that one too. Once the brothers start singing the Red Flag and making up scare stories its “Everybody out” and reason disappears.

All ends badly, with worse conditions that could have been achieved by negotiation and only lukewarm, easily ignored, face-saving guarantees that the union bosses will embrace to declare a victory.
If you strike you have to win.

It doesn’t help that the management bosses are no better than the union bosses. That’s what happens when neither side is willing to give or take on even the mildest of reforms. Brian Coleman comes across as a complete knob.

If the plan to strike on Nov 5th was to force some more talks soon then its a reasonable plan. If it wasn’t just a stunt but is a real strike plan then the strike is doomed.

          • Eric Pickles is a reckless firestarter says:

I agree, Bill, reason will win the day.

Which means that there is only one course of action left: both parties in the dispute will have to go to acas to have this dispute resolved by mediation.

The Fire Brigade will be happy to follow that course of action but should the management refuse to attend we will know that they are the unreasonable party in this dispute.

Re the Beeb, did you see the interview they did with the MD of Ford Motors who have made the best profits for years apparently. When asked how they did it by the Beeb dollybird, the answer was ‘we cut this and we cut that and we cut something else and were thus able to get on and make lots of money’. The Beeboid gushed about how wonderful that was – but totally failed to see the connection between what Ford did ad what Dave and Oz are trying to do. Ford cuts good. Libcon cuts bad? Very odd.

Its common practice in the private sector.
Anyone can have their contracted HOURS of work changed with just four weeks notice. there is no compensation.

If the Labour government had paid even a 1% interest on what happened to people’s lives, jobs and pensions in the private sector then the public sector might get a bit more support.

As it is.. I don’t recall Bob coming out on strike when it was half pay or piss off for those without a public teat to suck..

        • 68
Unionisation of the private sector will soon solve that sort of dodgy practise, Bill says:

Sounds like people working in the private sector need to be protected by unions from having their contracts summarily change at the whim of their employers.

You really are a dullard, private sector jobs have no magic money to “protect” them when times get hard, the company must always adapt or die. It’s a harsh reality. The public sector sucks on the wealth created by the private sector and additionally adds costs via taxation, borrowing and debt. Kill the private sector via trades unionism, as nearly happened in the 70′s and the whole economy goes down the shitter.

          • Eric's in a no win situation says:

            Magic money?

The only cost that will be incurred to solve this dispute is the cost of a stamp and an envelope containing the letter from Eric Pickles retracting his threat to sack any Firemen who go on strike.

And the shoe leather spent travelling to the post box to send it of course. As soon as that has been received the strike will be called off.

Socialism has murdered 150 million human beings pride says:

          Mr Quango,

It is only common practice in the private sector if the workers have signed a contract saying that their hours can be varied with 4 weeks notice and no compensation. The firemen’s contract does not have that as a term and their bosses have no right to unilaterally break a contract without something like bankruptcy on their part as a reason.
Dirty tricks are common in all sectors of society, private and public and that is why unions are sometimes a helpful thing for people who would otherwise be shat on with no redress.
The name I use tells you my opinion of socialism and it is a great tragedy that union membership in this country has become so involved with the poison of socialism. A kneejerk reaction that anything to do with a union means support for red scum is incorrect.Contracts should be honoured, that is one of the planks on which all of society stands. In no way should anyone, and esp that most evil and murderous of all organisations, the state, be able to come along and unilaterally vary or break any contract or demand that new and worse ones be adopted under duress.

I actually took part in covering for the Firemen in the last Fireman’s strike in 2002/2003. Ha just come back from a six month tour in Kosovo and we had our leave monkeyed round with in order to cover the strikes.

We had one day of training on the Green Goddess and were deemed fit to fight fires. Our 2nd Battalion actually went and did a few weeks training so could use the breathing apperatus and enter burning buildings.

So we covered the strikes (me in Saff London) and were not called upon once from our station. Sat around watching DVDs and moaning. We were all really pleased to have to change our plans/holidays to cover for the Firemen’s greed.

The biggest problem was that all the lads wanted to then sign off and become a Fireman- more pay for doing virtually nothing. We were told that there were 50 applicants for each vaccant position.

I say sack every single one of them who won’t work and offer the jobs to ex-military folk.

          • Here's the point of the issue says:

They have already signed those contracts, they signed them when they were offered the job.

            You mean re-sign different contracts.

By the way, your boss wants to see you today, he wants you to re-sign the contract he previously offered you, you are on less money, less holiday, less benefits and more hours.

So you’ve changed your mind now, eh, and don’t think it is such a good idea to set a precedent whereby contracts are worth no more than toilet paper and wherby employers can turn around to you and say “well if the contracts of Firemen who do dangerous jobs can be changed then so can yours penpusher, now sign or fuck off”

As for people blaming the government, that may have been the case if the Tories had run up the deficit but they didn’t so the public will understand the coalition is not at fault.I just hope no-one is hurt.

Quite simply, that’s bullshit. They do not have to carry out a HSE assessment, whatever that is. There is no point rushing in ‘blind’ to the various risks. It has always been that way. FFS even the SAS do the same when going into dangerous situations.

And at the tube bombings, the police ordered them to stay out of the tubes. Police, paramedics and LU staff were sufficient in the early stages since there were no, err, fires and there was the chance of secondary explosions.

This is not secondary picketing which is where people picket locations that are not directly connected to the issue of protest.

It is not mass-picketing either (sadly illegal since the general strike – gotta protect the vested interests against uppity workers) since they are not seeking to get as many people to the picket as possible.

All that is happening is some RMT members are showing solidarity with their fellow workers.

    Atlas shrugged says:

Back in August there was a YouGov poll showing that 30% of people thought that Dr David Kelly was murdered. Following the publication of the post-mortem this week we asked if people thought it was right to release the post-mortem report (58% did) and repeated the same question as we asked in August on how people thought David Kelly died. The proportion of people thinking he was murdered has halved to 14%, the proportion thinking he committed suicide has gone from 32% to 52%. Just over a third said don’t know.

    Anthony Wells

You can most surely count myself in the 14%.

“The Lady hath protested to much,” on this and many other cases recently.

What surprises me is that there still remains so many who persist in trusting anything that comes from the establishment when all evidence available conclusively proves over a very long time indeed, that the Establishment can not be trusted with anything especially anything regarding something so rare and precious as THE TRUTH. Even more especially when it is the establishment itself that is the prime suspect in the case.

Why, if 30% did not trust the establishment before, would over half of them choose to trust them now?

Why do so many trust public or otherwise enquiries or post-mortems?

Do they do so, because of their own personal experience of the way the world has ALWAYS worked?

Or do they simply do so because it makes them feel better to believe that the world they inhabit is somehow governed by some kind of divinely franchised morality, without the slightest evidence to back up such a vastly ignorant assertion?

Good to see that at least 14% of the people still trust their gut instinct, common sense and personal experience over their own governing class.

      Atlas shrugged says:

Having given the above a little further consideration, maybe I am being unfair?

For it would seem that there still remains 47-48% of those asked that either believe Dr Kelly was murdered or do not know for sure. Which is actually quite astounding given the assurances that the combined efforts of the entire establishment have now made.

    Atlas shrugged says:

How is this for a conspiracy?

Trades Union secretly backed by KGB agents working within The Soviet Union, which is secretly backed by extremely rich members of the British establishment through the international banking, oil, gold and diamond industries, then covertly orders/encourages said Trades Union to strike.

The strike results in the then clusters of privately owned and controlled competing companies to pay slightly to much to far too many workers over a protracted period of time. This results in the entire industry becoming inefficient and so terminally unprofitable.

This results in the industry being unable to attract private investment and so it becomes ever more inefficient and so a general backwards looking mess.

The Labour Party also backed by elements within The Soviet Union and The very richest and most powerful members of the British establishment then argue that this entire industry must be nationalized at great cost to the public who will be required to pay for the investment needed to safeguard the industry, and jobs. This creates an enormous non competing centrally run MONOPOLY.

A Labour government then borrows the money from these extremely rich members of The British establishment at interest to pay for it all. The debt being underwritten by the hard working British tax payer.

Things carry on for a while but the industry is still basically a load of strike ridden bollocks, costs ever more every year while remaining needlessly inefficient mainly because of a perfectly useless old-boy network management, corrupt civil servants and the continued overmanning caused by repeated Trades Union activity.

The country goes virtually, or indeed actually bankrupt, paying for it all, as the debt with interest forever mounts up.

Then Thatcher turns up and sells it all off in a fire sale for pennies in the pound to the self same extremely rich elements within the British establishment via an entirely new concept known as privatization.

    Thus.

The proverbial THEY end up owning EVERYTHING, while we end up paying for it for the rest of our lives several times over.

You think this is just a conspiracy theory? Then think again suckers. You may be very stupid indeed, however the people who own the central banks are anything but, as well as very patient.

Therefore don’t be surprised if one day in the not so distant future our Fire prevention services are also sold off to the lowest and most corrupt buyer, financially backed and therefore controlled by said extremely rich elements within the British/International banking system.

    Sir Everard Digby says:

THis is not new. South Yorkshire FRA wanted to introduce 15/9 shifts in October 2009.They threatened to sack anyone not taking the new terms. Strikes followed. I don’t recall lefty outrage at the time or other Unions rushing to jump on the bandwagon. A deal was finally done for 13/11 shifts in February 2010.

    My questions are:

Why the fuck don’t FRAs talk to each other?
Why don’t the Union suggest this compromise? That would put the FRA and the government in a hole and make them seem to be the unreasonable parties. This would attract some public sympathy.

Striking, especially enlisting the ‘support’ of Bob Crow will have the opposite effect.

This has now been hijacked by both sides and turned into a political issue. No chance of a common sense solution, or a reasoned discussion judging by the rabid comments appearing on Guido’s blog.

While she was “flying” down the road yesterday (30 miles over the limit), a woman passed over a bridge only to find a cop with a radar gun on the other side lying in wait.

The cop pulled her over, walked up to the car, and with that classic patronising smirk we all know and love, asked, “What’s your hurry?”

To which she replied, “I’m late for work.”

“Oh yeah,” said the cop, “what do you do?”

“I’m a rectum stretcher,” she responded.

The cop stammered, “A what? A rectum stretcher? And just what does a rectum stretcher do?”

“Well,” she said, “I start by inserting one finger, then I work my way up to two fingers, then three, then four, then with my whole hand in. I work from side to side until I can get both hands in, and then I slowly but surely stretch, until it’s about 6 feet wide.”

“And just what the hell do you do with a 6 foot asshole?” he asked.

“You give him a radar gun and park him behind a bridge”
