Norman Tebbit has a humble brag:
“We Maastricht rebels were derided and abused for opposing the single currency by the wise, clever, Guardianista soft centre left establishment from whom we now hear so little on the matter.”

Mr Bryant and Mr Watson managing to make the whole hacking affair look like a farce – the more they moan the less I care about the whole subject! So partisan it beggars belief at all costs. They cannot rise above it ! If I was to call the PM a ‘liar’ I would want to be VERY sure.

The bbc should be fucking flattened and all it’s staff sent to Venezuala to join Chaves’ ‘revolution’.
They are being sent to Manchester – Chavs revolution?
NO SCOOPS – GO TO PHASE 2
Well, there’s no point waiting for the Coalition to remove the licence, might as well do what I did: cancelled the direct debit, stuck a notice outside my front door removing the implied right of access and tore up the monthly letters full of empty threats. My own personal bit against the beeb is explained on one of my blog postings – it’s easy.
IF the BBC is as cherished and loved as the BBC likes to think it is, then why not have a voluntary subscription service only?
Or offer a service where there are NO adverts during programmes at all, and a voluntary subscription are required to view BBC programmes and websites.
If it is so well loved in this country, they should be able to increase their revenues and still pay for the “special interest” viewing that they currently offer under the state subsidy.
After all, it matters not to the programme makers if the pounds they spend have come from the tax-payer, or the people buying BBC DVDs or from a subscription, or wherever.
So long as they maintain their budget, they could carry on doing exactly what they are doing.
So what are they so scared of?
Well said, Mr. Ned. The BBC always claims “it’s value for money”. Mr. Ned’s excellent suggestion would be a way for the BBC to demonstrate to the world that it is indeed value for money. Just don’t hold your breath!
If the gutless Tory Party had any backbone they’d deal with this statist cancer at the heart of our nation.
The BBC hates Britain and all that is good about our nation. In combination with NuLabour they have done more to damage and undermine the fabric of our society than anyone or thing I can think of.
If the Conservatives haven’t got the guts to rid us of this foul organisation, then they deserve everything the BBC is going to through at them over the coming years.
Little commented on in Dave’s defence report is that he thinks the biggest threat to the UK is man made global warming.
Nigel Lawson pointed out on the Daily politics show today that the Global warmists predicted a rapid increase in global temperatures for the last decade and in fact there was cooling not warming.
Lawson also pointed out that international aid actually reduces the economic output of the recipient.
Is Dave actually a Tory?
No, Dave is a total c u n t as are most of the current crop of Cons.
Lawson speaks sense as always.
The word you’re looking for is Hunt
The huhne you’re looking for is “ffs!”
Dave has never shown any indication that he is a tory. He has always described himself as a liberal conservative.
As for climate change, then we are indeed always at threat of rapid climate change. There have been many times in the past when the climate has rapidly changed, within decades and occasionally, within a single decade, by an order of magnitude more than we are witnessing currently. Not least when entering or emerging from ice ages.
We should be prepared to adapt to rapid climate change as it is a physical reality which would threaten our crops, and the way businesses operate.
Look at the panic that ensues every-time the south has a dusting of snow. We need to be able to adapt to such disruptions of the weather when they occur.
I like snow.
So do we
Shhhh, Mr Ned, you can’t go telling people that systemic shifts of climate have in the past occurred in the space of days — the price of underwear and bed-linen would go stratospheric.
Cut, cut, and cut it again.
I’ve just voted to abolish the BBC.
I feel so strongly about it that I HAVE VOTED 50 TIMES.
Guido, I suggest that you configure the poll to prevent repeat voting.
Making them pay for oldies’ TV licences would be a good start, difficult to find a more elegant way to give them a massive pay cut…
Ceasar thouht decimation elegant and I agree with him.
I’ve just got a letter from the BBC about the change over to digital.
1. I do not have a licence
2. I moved recently so how do the BBC have my new address?
3. The licence holder has not had a similar letter
Who the fuck do the BBC think they are and who is giving them my information without my permission??
CLOSE THE BBC
“I moved recently so how do the BBC have my new address?”
Did you buy a new tv or signup to a cable or satellite TV service?
Any of the above and TVL will have been informed by the retailer or TV service provider.
When I purchased my new telly I did so with cash and gave them a false address.
ps. I also made sure it was in stock before purchasing so I could take it away with me there and then and not have them deliver it.
Soon the bbc will demand that tv, computer and tech outlets will make customers produce ID such as a passport and a recent utilities bill before they will sell them a telly.
I bet you that happens.
When you purchase a new television, ALWAYS pay in cash, and make sure that you fill in the registration details before the transaction is complete.
Then give the name and address of the shop where you are purchasing the TV, as that is the owner of the item, until the transaction is complete.
IF they refuse to allow this, but insist on naming you in writing before the transaction is complete, then take the TV and refuse to pay for it. After all, why pay for what they have admitted in writing you already own?
Or, if you do not want all that hassle, tell them that the TV is going to be a prize handed out in a raffle, and so the name and address of the owner will not be known, until the raffle is drawn and you have no fixed abode. The TV will be kept in storage until the time of the drawing of the raffle.
Or to be bloody minded, give them the address of TV licensing, because in legalese, registration is handing over legal title of, so if you register the TV, then TV licensing can become the new owner.
X2
or just put ‘mickey mouse, disneyworld’. It’s much quicker, and you won’t distress the staff so much.
No (to 11)
The intention is to liecence computers across the EU. Been flaged up once or twice before. No one really made a fuss, so the project is still on as far as I know.
Well it was being pushed behind the scenes up until three years ago.
That’s licence
Abolish it. Privitise the bits that the commerical sector would want and replace the rest with a new independent public broadcasting service.
Agreed, except that ‘replac[ing] the rest with new independent public broadcasting service’ needs rigorous definition, in order that it does not become a revolving-door whereby BBC staffers accept redundancy in exchange for a new contract with the New Service at a higher rate of pay and better conditions.
What a fair set of questions. You’ve excelled yourself.
Set up your own poll with your own questions, then post the URL here.
Well said. I’ve email the BBC telling them of the orderorder poll and daring them to put up one of their own in opposition. Of course, they’ll do no such thing. Cowards and bastards.
Typical BBC poll then?
I like the Beeb, but they are a bit daft with the iPlayer – they ban folks such as me from viewing their programming online as I am as my name suggests.
But all this does is make me pay someone else for a UK proxy server – which is money they could be getting if they just charged the legion non-UK dwellers instead.
Why pay for a proxy? There are plenty of free ones out there.
As Mr Ned says – google free uk proxies – and you can start to watch such gems as Strictly Come Lap Dancing, EastEnders and watching Bill Oddie kick the face of a badger in.
Don’t talk of Kate Humble like that.
hmm right, so free proxies have ample bandwidth for streaming video?
No they don’t and what’s more they disappear as soon as the free proxy owner realises his bandwidth is going ballistic!
Commie bastards. They should be strung up by the testicles!
…they have testicles?
The women as well?
Only the women…
You missed off the option to keep the BBC as it is, because its brilliant.
This is because Guido is not insane, nor is he a communist.
So you suport threatening 100,000 people a month with jail to fund entertainment?
How morally inverted!
To what entertainment do you refer ?
Fuck off back to your Grauniads and prepare for a damned good shafting by the taxpayer.
UR Mitch Benn AICM £3bn p.a.
The TV Licence should be abolished and the Labour Movement made responsible for funding the BBC under a political broadcasting levy as the BBC gave up any impartial reporting over 30 years ago and is to all intents and purposes Labour’s Propaganda Arm
+ ∞
How did you get the infinity sign?
If you’re using Windows open up the Character Map application. Hours of fun for all the family!
Just copy it from somewhere…e.g. “Infinity (sometimes symbolically represented by ∞)…”
(from Wiki)
Write the symbols for Ampersand hash 8734 semicolon, without spaces in.
& # 8734 ; without spaces = ∞
I think the method I proposed is a tad easier!
Bunch of Bloody Communists – CLOSE IT DOWN NOW!
Given that this site is populated by a load of rabid, foaming at the mouth right wingers, the result will be as balanced as a Daily Express phone in poll.
Calm down, dear, it’s only a blog. Have a nice cup of tea and you’ll feel a lot better. How about a little smile for Uncle Bill?
Bill, stop grooming the little lefties. They might be stupid but don’t take advantage of them.
You are Mike Hancock and I claim my £5
You seem to be just the person to ask, can you direct me to a left wing version of Biased BBC?
Yes: http://news.bbc.co.uk/
not that left wing.
What the fuck are you doing here then?
Well set one of your own!!!!!!! IDIOT.
Keep the licence as is.
I don’t want yet more TV and radio channels or websites, plastered with commercials or dubious sponsorship.
Airlines sponsoring the weather?
DIY store ads over prime time TV?
No thanks, keep BBC as it is.
Thank you.
Just get a digi PVR, pause the feed while you take a crap or make a cup of tea. The unit will buffer and then you can watch anything ad free, just FFWD through the bloody things.
Or better still. get a life and stop wasting it staring at a box of electrics in the corner of your room.
There is that of course, it doesn’t really assist in the general cut and thrust of the thread though does it?
You want it kept the same because it pays your wages you BBC K/unt.
If the BBC is as popular and loved as it says it is, then they should become a voluntary subscription service either without adverts, or with adverts only between programmes (as it is now with all those, buy this BBC DVD NOW adverts).
There is no need whatsoever to interrupt programmes with adverts on the BBC.
IF the BBC is as popular as it claims, then they should be able to offer the same range of programming as it does now and even more besides, as its revenues should increase under a subscription service.
However, if it turns out that the BBC is only loved by a bunch of brainwashed lefties, then they may have a bit of a problem.
I fear it would mean the end of Antiques Roadshow and its gripping saga of early Victorian silver nose tweezers.
Sack the fucking lot starting with the overpaid scum at the top , followed by Humphrys , Naughtie , Dimbleby and the other lefties . And while we’re at it let’s get rid of that brain-dead Hunt Sally Bercow . Her surname should be hyphenated as Berk – Cow which sums her up perfectly.
Dismantle the entire edifice immediately and ruthlessly. As long as it continues it is a propaganda machine for the cultural marxists.
Why stop there? Why not close the Mirror and New Statesman as well then? Why not the right-leaning outlets too? Surely, its a restoration of rational balance that is required?
Because they are supposed to be vaguely commercial. You have to put your hand into your pocket and pull out your money to buy one. The BBC, on the other hand, puts its hand into your pocket to take out your money to fund it. And if you don’t allow it to do that it sends the boys round to take your money by force.
The object is not to stifle all debate, unless you’re a total fascist, but to ensure all points of view are aired. That cannot happen while the BBC acts as both gatekeeper — deciding what PoVs are represented and more importantly how they are (mis)represented — and as Socialist TV.
There are alternative, open broadcasting models. Look and learn: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netherlands_Public_Broadcasting
BBC world service radio is very good – keep it but with less control by UK Foreign Ministry (FCO) who fund the service – since they salivate over fascist dictatorships like Ethiopia which are loved by the West.
I live in Zimbabwe and pay GBP 1.33 per day or GBP 490 per year for satellite TV with 5 international 24 hour news channels, 7 movie channels, 10 sports channels etc.. I regard this as civilised (but expensive) living, as do many of all colours throughout Southern Africa and indeed the whole of Africa. Our viewing experience seems to be rather superior to your Sky system.
I regard all domestic UK TV news as incredibly small-minded and self-centred. Sky News is a bit better but not really so much.
Commercial interests are salivating at the idea that the BBC might be dismantled. Their interests and the interests of the UK population might not always however coincide.
The idea that BBC is some left-wing force is truly laughable – BBC are part of the same global media empire who back the West. The West is internally democratic and externally fascist, and BBC are 100% behind that. Maybe BBC appear left-wing if your politics are slightly to the right of Ghangis Khan.
The BBC is certainly top-heavy management-wise.
The BBC a few years ago started an excellent JAM project – which was to provide globally free online high quality secondary school educational content. It was closed by pressure from EU, Guardian, Independent and others who argued that it was unfairly competing with commercial interests. How ridiculous and what a loss to mankind!
Apologies for this disjointed and inconclusive comment…
Alex Weir, Harare

The BBC is left wing since we here in the UK recognise all you say but our interpretation is that left winginess leads to totalitarianism, which is total accord with your view on external fascism. Its UK monopoly inhibits low cost diversity of supply and allows corporate moguls like Murdoch to thrive.
The BBC needs to be either (a) shut down (b) broken up and sold (c) converted to a subscription service.
I wanna buy it.
Questions seem a bit rigged to obtain a desired outcome, gives us a few more options Guido then you will get a meaningful conclusion.
It is an impartial as the BBC poll about the BBC? What are you suggesting?
Jesus, dont know whether to laugh or cry at you lot. Totally convinced theBBC is out get You.it may of course be right but you dont half sound like a bunch of paranoid nutters.
if I’m as paranoid as you make out, how come I still think you’re a twat
Because you are mentally ill
are yea talkin’ ’bout me jimmy?
there is no need to get rid of the BBC, just a few tweaks could help cure it.
1) abolish the tv tax
2) compete or die
Technology, thank goodness, won’t let them keep the license fee for much longer.
That should cheer me up, but then I realise that the Beeb/Labour/ Groaniad/ Indie tribe will just continue into subscription and advertising in the same old way.All they’ll do is put the same old suspects on the screen.
We all can name the names- the Padicks, Toynbees, Williams, Macshames, Mcguires, Precotts, Benns, etc we’re all sick of seeing.
Plus others of interest because they also represent the old time-worn hidden agendas about socialism, sexual identity, international solidarity, lovely mass immigration, the blamelessness of crime, our need to understand freedom fighters, etc.
Can you change the institution without getting rid of its present staff? I very much doubt that you can.
This is a tribe which dominates almost all the media from stand up comedians to the fools who write the Mirror- you can only change them if you alter what they have to do to get and keep their comfortable livings. Is the government up to that?
In a nutshell then, your rambling argument is get rid of people you disagree with. Have a wank and calm down, it really isnt that bad you know.
is having a wank a cure for mental illnes then?
@Easy: Why don’t you read what he’s actually written. And please, do try not to be offensive. You dilute your own argument.
I think your the only mentally ill one here ‘Easy Decisions’ pal.
He’s just another weak-willed brainwash victim. Common or garden variety.
Please don’t confuse the institution of the BBC as a high quality public service broadcaster with the left-leaning lightweights that have hijacked and corrupted the public’s perception of the BBC.
One set of options for discussion:
First, seperate all News operations from the mainstream and fund them by subscription only a la CNN et al. It will soon be evident to all what a hugely inefficient, poor quality operation BBC news in its various guises provides.
Second, spin-off BBC Worldwide as a public Company. The IPU would be oversubscribed many times over as it earns in excess of £100 million per annum trading & licensing BBC assets as well as broadcasting subscription channels around the World.
Thirdly – sell off (if you can find a buyer) or wind up Future Media & Technology. Its an expensive waste of licence fees: consuistently fails to deliver on its strategic objectives – Kangaroo, DMI et al. No part of the BBC Institution should be speculative.
Fourth – Replace current management structure with a slimmed-down, service-orientated, business-minded management team that understand why it must display consistently exemplary standards and professional integrity. In recent years way too many of the management come from the NCA background when it is quite clear that the attributes of a good live-in-the-moment journalist are not consistent with those required of a top-flight business administrator – for whom success is measured over years not seconds – looking to nurture and develop the long-term strategy that will re-establish the reputation and value of the BBC as a Global asset – not just a national one. As for all those who seek to justify excessive rewards with the old chestnut “that’s what the commercial sector pays – well let them go out into the commercial sector Marketplace and realise their worth.
Finally for now, leave World Service entirley alone. It is not funded by the licence fee, it serves this Country well in communicating to the World as a whole – frequently speaking in their own language and often speaking freely in Countires where freedom of sopeecgh and thought is even more limited than in the UK.
A good line of discussion points. Shame about the spelling.
Hey I’m a busy man!
Flog ‘em. Then flog ‘em off.
Could be worth $200bn – what a fantastic deficit-reduction measure that would be.
Well that’s 2 years deficit covered, what then?
It all adds up over time, a penny here and a penny there and the debt will be gone.
Better than just letting the interest pile up.
The Coalition government has to do something about the BBC winding-up the people about the public spending cuts. Retired service personnel could do their bit by refusing to be interviewed – you are only going to be made to say things you will regret. As you are retired and out of the forces, you know nothing worth saying. This deliberate terrifying of the public by the BBC newsroom is already too much, and they could go on for months yet, piling panic upon insinuation upon half-truth upon falsehood. Instead of inculcating realistic stoicism and an adult “lets get it over with” attitude.
I hope the Coalition government will find a way of penalising individual ministers in the last Labour government for the contracts that they signed up to that were from the outset more expensive to cancel than to honour, unless they can show which money tree they were relying on. Almost unbelievable stupidity.
Anyone notice the spin from the BBC on the removal the Deputy Principal of St Michael and All Angels Academy? It took them longer to work out that Dan Hannan had humiliated Brown during a live tv coverage from the European Parliament.
If I want Guardain Pay TV I’d buy as and when I wanted to view.
The licence fee comes out of my post tax income, and I don’t see why I should have news provided by Toynbee, Jug Ears Marr, Wark, Crick, Peston, Stephanie Two Eds Flanders, ToeNails Robinson, with fawning newpaper reviews by Muckquire, and Mariella Gordon is wonderful Frostrup. Why should we keep these bastards in the style that they have become accustomed to, taxi please, charge it to the licence fee payers…
Funny how Byford and that other bloody fool jumped ship, are they frightened that their pensions and salaries are going to be cut.
A publically funded news and tv service is incompatible with a free society. Scrap it.
They deliberately tried to suppress coverage of Hannan’s speech until youtube made it impossible to ignore.
Same with the climategate scandal and no doubt countless more examples.
The BBC quite clearly could spend their money better, I was amazed to see that They are sponsoring one of the discovery channels last week with big ads between programmes “sponsored by wanders of the galaxy” pushing the book of the BBC series, it even says BBC on the cover of the book, wander where that stands from a charter, and unfair business practice POV?
This poll is shit. Admittedly R1 and R2 could go along with most of BBC1 sat night. R4 and R6 are worth the license fee alone.
You pay it then, I’m not going to fund your viewing and listening habits.
does not compute…does not compute…
Thanks Andrew – you just reminded me to get a DNA test.
I voted for option 3 but would settle for scrapping the news department.
Guess where the Pravda Current Affairs team have chosen for this week’s Question Time?
http://conservativehome.blogs.com/centreright/2010/10/guess-where-the-bbc-is-holding-this-weeks-question-time.html
Fuck the Biased Bullshit Corporation…. Make the Labour “chimps tea” party run their own campaign
No chance if that happening while this carp coalition is in power though
Orfe-ful ain’t it?
The beebs days are numbered anyway, the saddo old generation left wingers can’t explain or justify the license fee to the younger generations brought up expecting a free lunch by the same saddo left wingers in the education system in another case of left wing epic fail and non joined up thinking.
As stated on 12 August by my very near and dear friend, Schrödinger’s cat:
Take a leaf out of the banking rescue model. Split the BBC into a ‘good BBC’ and sell it off. Put the rest in a ‘bad BBC’ and give it as a present to the Scots Parliament.
One of the funniest stories I’ve heard about TV licence collection was of a guy who strung the enforcement thugs along for ages and ages, with what looked like a large, pre-flat screen telly near his living room window.
They eventually allowed in, only to find that it had been converted into a fish tank!
I’ve discovered the BBC’s modus operandi when it comes to handling complaints made online. If you’re a first-timer, you get one of their standardized ‘we do our best’ type of responses, no longer with a complaint number I hasten to add.
From that moment any other complaint you send using the same email gets stonewalled – no response, no acknowledgent, nothing.
How many fucking news readers have they got!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a Brit living in Chile, I only have access to BBC World News and BBC America, both of which are pretty much a waste of time. Although it is nice to hear an RP accent from time to time and see that old tart Sackur hamming it up on Hardtalk, I am constantly amazed by the resources that are spent on the world service, s’pose they have to give their army of foreign corespondants something to do in between the sun loungers. What I don’t understand though, is while it is funded by adverts and free to air on cable, it still features shows (either fully or in abbreviated form) paid for by Licence Payers back in blighty. BBC America is, of course, thrown in as part of a subscription package and is dire, repetitive nonesense, full of Dr Who and Top Gear. I’d gladly pay a fiver a month just to get my fix of Brillo and Paxo instead of that rubbish Dateline London thing stuffed full of Guardian hacks. That said, I’m stealing my cable from the next door neighbour….and no sign of the detector vans yet.
I now wish that I had stayed in Jellystone Park with Boo-Boo and not bothered with inventing television.
On Radio 4 (a.k.a. Guardian Radio) this morning, the Today program featured that odious Marxist cretin, Mark Steel advocating civil dissobedience in protest to the ‘yet to be annouced’ cuts.
The BBC should be first in line for some serious cutting.
Every time I see Nick Robinson on TV, I get an uncontrollable urge to commit violence on his face
Isn’t he pals with Mark Oaten? Cleveland Steamer anyone?
I wish I would have read your post. But unfortunately the code is messed up on my end. Is it just me? I can barely see the box for leaving comments. You may want to give it a check…
