As a British Israeli / Israeli British, brought up in England with the wonderful BBC and now living back and forwards in both places, I can actually see both sides. (It’s a weird deformity)
The collective punishment is terrible, and the fact that there are nice malls, olympic sized swimming pool and a higher standard of living than Eygpt and lower infant mortality than most other Arabs countries is actually not relevant. They need to be able to be free to leave Gaza, like we are free to travel – ie, to a country that lets us, get a visa, can afford the flights etc.
The problem is there are so many problems.
Israelis in general know there is a big issue with the way the Palestinians are treated in Gaza, but don’t actually know a way to solve it. If the government in Gaza could bring itself to recognise Israel, the problem would be over instantly, but Israel feels existentially threatened.
If you think that Israel does not want peace, why are there not the same problems in the West Bank? Because the government there understands, at least partially the need to be pragmatic.

You really should pay more attention in those Hasbara classes: Israel never annexed Gaza, simply invaded and settled some of its population there in contravention of the Geneva Conventions. Deciding to withdraw after nearly 40 years in order to comply withe the law is not making a gift of anything. Nor is simply withdrawing to one’s own side of the border and instituting a siege in place of the occupation.
