Nadine Dorries, who compared the MPs’ expenses scandal to a “McCarthyite witch-hunt”, claimed the funds from her allowances to pay for marketing and research work she said was done by Lynn Elson.
New figures released by the Parliamentary authorities yesterday showed Mrs Dorries claimed £17,825 to pay Mrs Elson’s marketing company between July and December last year.
The MP for Mid-Bedfordshire also paid £34,000 to her friend between September 2008 and June last year – making a total of more than £51,000 in 15 months.
Before being amended in March 2009, the Commons “Green Book” of expenses rules said MPs could not use their allowances to pay for “self promotion or PR for individuals or political parties”.
Mrs Dorries also claimed almost £20,000 in expenses for “research” from Media Intelligence Partners, a PR company run by a former Tory chief spin doctor, between November 2006 and May 2008.
A photograph featuring a group of Mrs Dorries’s friends, including Mrs Elson, wearing eveningwear and drinking wine was posted on the MP’s official website until earlier this year.
Following an earlier Daily Telegraph report on the MP’s payments of parliamentary expenses to Mrs Elson’s company, the picture was removed.

Two women have been arrested after a British motor racing boss was found dead in a shower at a sadomasochistic sex club in Belgium.
Robin Mortimer, 58, owner of RPM Motorsport, was found in the village of Brecht, near Antwerp, on Tuesday.
The public prosecutor in Antwerp said an initial investigation suggested he did not die of natural causes.
He said the women had been charged with “assault and battery leading to death, without intent to kill”.
In a statement released on their behalf, Mr Mortimer’s family said it was “understood that Robin died of natural causes in his sleep at a hotel”.
However, prosecutors said this did not appear to be the case.
A post-mortem examination is being carried out to try to determine exactly what happened. It is understood that Mr Mortimer was found in a shower, but died in another part of the club.
Spokesman Paul Van Tigchelt said: “We have arrested two women who worked with him in that club. Now the file is with a judge who is leading the investigation.
A judge must now decide whether there is sufficient evidence to bring the women – who call themselves Mistress Lucrezia and Mistress Juno – to court.
According to her website, Mistress Lucrezia offers clients “bondage, humiliation, torture, education and cross-dressing”.
Mr Mortimer, who was from Coventry, was the son of Grand Prix driver Charles Mortimer. He leaves behind his wife Bridget and son, motor racing champion Alex Mortimer.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: “We can confirm the death of 58-year-old British man Robin Mortimer near Antwerp on June 22. Next of kin are aware and we are providing consular assistance.”

In the interview she talked about the balance between cuts and tax rises to balance the budget and I think this is what he was referring to. SIMPLE RICE AND PEAS RECIPE
INGREDIENTS:
Serves: 4-5 (Or 1)
1 medium sized can red kidney beans
1 can coconut milk
2 cups of rice
1 small onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1 table spoon oil
1 scotch bonnet pepper (whole, do not chop up)
water
Drain the liquid from the can of beans into a measuring cup and add the can of coconut milk and enough water to make four cups of liquid. Place liquids in a pot with beans, onions, garlic, thyme and oil, bring to a boil. Add rice and stir for a minute. Reduce heat to Medium-Low. Place scotch bonnet pepper on top of liquid and cover tightly for 30 minutes or until rice is cooked. Remove scotch bonnet pepper before serving.
This recipes can also be made using other peas.

You might also consider looking at the relevant part of EU law that makes it illegal for a government to restrict access to news. Someone I know (here in the UK) quoted the relevant law to the TV licensing authority and said that, if pressed, they would use this in court to argue that they only watched news on TV and requiring a license for this was illegal. Using your example, the BBC and other UK broadcasters have been pushing to get rid of FM in favour of DAB radio [wikipedia.org] (digital audio broadcasting). DAB has terrible audio quality, terrible error correction, and pretty bad reception compared to FM. The rest of the world is dumping or not implementing DAB and implementing DAB+ instead. DAB+ is a more up to date CODEC which is more efficient, better audio quality, better error correction, cheaper to transmit than DAB, etc. etc. So the BBC are trying to get people to accept inferior technology (just like the DVB-T “Freeview” system).
The BBC have long since given up the pretense of quality transmission, the last decent innovation of theirs being the contribution to the NICAM 728 project [wikipedia.org]…. Stereo transmission of audio in the analogue TV signal….

The hacker also accessed her Facebook, Yahoo email and personal blog and used them to put out unpleasant remarks.
Some of Miss Coffey’s friends immediately alerted her to the security breach when they read the messages.
She could not immediately access any of her own accounts because the hacker had changed her password – the same for all her accounts. But after telling service providers she regained control of Facebook, her email and the blog within an hour.
But Twitter is based in San Francisco and it took Miss Coffey FIVE DAYS to sort out that account. She has posted an apology saying: “Hallelujah, back in control. Have updated security policy.”
Have different passwords for different accounts. What is it with women MPs and internet security?
And don’t use stupid passwords based on names, etc, or anything where all someone has to do is throw the dictionary at it.
