If by some chance Dave does win this time, there are plenty in his party who will push him to the right. The unknown quantity is all the babes, Muslims and other oddities that CCHQ has inflicted on local party associations.

If he should lose, he'll be out and David Davis or some other serious Conservative will take over and the Tories will move to the right. They will then win the following election, but only after a lot more folly and extra debt.

Meanwhile, the nation seems in the grip of some media circus that will decide which of the leaders is to be evicted from the Big Brother House. Piss off, Paxman; this way Davina McCall.

What a way for a once-great country to behave.

Guido, did I not read Daniel Hannan saying that the Lib Dems almost always voted with Labour in the Telegraph blog the other day. Now you are suggesting they are more Conservative than Labour. If the Lib Dems do get in a position where they can form a Government with either party and they go with Labour I for one will start working my balls off for a "Revolution".

So are you saying that Daniel Hannan, one of the few people many of us think could run a truly "conservative" Conservative party is now just another bullshitting politician.
