O/T, but I’ve been thinking hard about yesterday’s ruling against the party that dare not speak its name.
Basically, the ruling implies that it is illegal to have a political party with core aims that disagree with the equality legislation, since such core aims would make it unpalatable for minorities to become members of such a party.
The idea that a law should contain within itself a prohibition against opposition to it seems, to me, to be either paradoxical or intentionally totalitarian. Old Holborn’s revelation of the sentencing guidelines given to magistrates on the anti-freedom smoking legislation gives a further insight into the mentality of those who pass such illiberal and unBritish measures. No law should prevent opposition to itself – in a democratic society, such legislation should be unacceptable as a matter of principle.
I was worried that we were slipping into totalitarianism under the New Labour experiment – now I am worried no longer, as I realise that we are already there, and without a concerted effort to reverse at least the last 13 years (and probably more) of anti-citizen legislation, we are all enemies of the state.

You miss my point. The House of Lords is currently a disgrace, but before it was “reformed” by the current government, it discharged its constitutional function very effectively, despite being all wrong in theory. Long experience and maturity brought steadiness and wisdom in general – no doubt there were odd scandals, but nowhere near as often, or as serious, as the during the last few years.
Reform has not served the country well. It may have served the Labour party well, but that is not good governance for the nation as a whole.
The HoL should be a revisionary chamber which would review and moderate legisation coming from the HoC. The incumbents of the HoL should be people who have experieced life in ways that the politicards of the HoC have not and so would have ex-military, businessmen, professional engineers and scientists – in short, people who know a bit and could apply a bit of knowledge to things beyond the range of the likes of Sarah Teather, Harriet’s Hormones et al. Moreover, if such people are to be elected, they should be elected with MPs but only one-third at any election thus giving them a maximum 15-year service and a degree of freedom of action and thought.
If the HoL is elected and enters into dispute with the HoC, then both can claim democratic mandate. That’s a bit of a quagmire. But to abolish the HoL entirely means that there is no check nor balance to the treasonous ideologues who have now taken over the Establishment’s political and legal machines – see the ruling against the PNB as mentioned above.

He also spread the cost of a nine thousand pound kitchen from Ikea, over 2 financial years. This allowed him to stay just within the maximum second home allowance limit.
But Gordon became PM as we all know and just like a very shrewd business man looking to keep things all for himself and not to give anything to the taxman, HE PUT HIS FLAT IN HIS WIFE’S NAME! As you do if you are a capitalist. This means of course that if he sells the flat, no capital gains tax is liable.
Hang on though, I’m not finished yet.
This of course left him free to now nominate his home in Scotland as his second home. This has allowed him to extensively renovate it at the taxpayer’s expenses. The taxpayer also forks out for the cost of the cleaner and the gardener.
All this AND he lives virtually cost-free in Downing Street for the past 12 years. So why has he charged anything to the taxpayer? Just because you can, doesn’t mean you have to does it? What about his moral compass? He also earns £194250 as PM and an MP. In addition, he has a 6 figure index linked pension to look forward to. The tax payer even pays for a sky sports subscription.

1. William Hague has now confirmed that he has known about Lord Ashcroft’s tax status for a “few months”. When exactly did he discover your party’s deputy chairman was a non-dom?
2. Why did Mr Hague not immediately publicly clarify Lord Ashcroft’s status which both he and the peer had previously pledged would be that of a permanent UK resident?
3. Did he immediately tell David Cameron about Lord Ashcroft’s true status? If not, why not?
4. Why did Mr Hague take more than nine years to establish Lord Ashcroft’s status when he had personally offered written assurances to both Tony Blair and the honours committee that Ashcroft would become a permanent UK resident and pay “tens of millions a year” in tax as a condition for receiving the peerage?
5. Why did Mr Cameron not establish Lord Ashcroft’s true status until more than four years after becoming party leader?
Yes the electorate are desperate to know the answer to these questions. Never mind the usual post labour economic mess. Never mind the years of unrest to come due to labour’s immigration policy. Scottish Labour’s biggest donor faces allegations of “cash for favours” over his links to Steven Purcell, the disgraced leader of Glasgow city council who resigned last week after he confessed to using cocaine.

A Sunday Times investigation has identified publicsector contracts and awards of millions of pounds of public money for his companies.
Purcell, who resigned earlier this month after admitting his drugs habit, chaired a meeting which agreed to hand Haughey nearly £1m of public funds. At least one council official raised concerns with Purcell about his close links to Haughey.
Ben Wallace, MP for Lancaster and Wyre and the Conservative spokesman for Scotland, said: “Scotland’s biggest Labour donor is in receipt of millions of pounds of Labour-controlled government funds.
“There needs to be an investigation to expose Labour’s links to its donors in Scotland and contracts placed by Labour authorities.”
Wallace said he would write to the Scottish justice minister this week asking for an investigation.
A spokesman for Strathclyde police said the chief constable was aware of allegations, but that no complaint had been made and an official investigation had not been launched.

OK so Lord Paul has repaid but only because he has been found out. Did he repay the interest on the money and how can the money be accepted without any admission of liability ?
