Loose Lips Plot Thickens

Guido reported on Friday the tale of the Lib Dem activist boasting about his spin that got the Standard to report that Kingston Hospital was under threat. Little did he know he was sitting opposite the Mirror’s Kevin Maguire while he was yelling down the phone on a train. Well it seems this was no rogue agent and was working extremely closely with sitting MP Susan Kramer, who is desperately trying to fight off Zac Goldsmith’s advances. The Liberal Democrats spun their “Save Kingston Hospital” campaign as a reaction to Labour suggesting a London wide review of hospitals. Why if this happened this month was the websiteSaveKingstonHospital.orgregistered by Kramer herself in early December?

There is no evidence to suggest Kingston Hospital is directly threatened any more than any other hospital in London. Yet Ed Davey and Nick Clegg have been quick to weigh in and throw they support, and faces, behind the quickly unravelling fake astro-turfed campaign. Looks like Parliament, and the Tories should start coming to terms with the dreadful idea that Zac might soon be sitting on the green benches.

Zac may or may not make a good MP. Unfortunately the toff mileage Labour may get out of it means his investiture may do more harm than good. Unfortunately that’s the reality in this spin, media, soaps, reality show, global warming wafer thin excuse for a society.

So if elected he’ll be on Just a Minute in 4 and a bit years time explaining why he lost his seat. One hopes he does it as well as GB.

PS – Is there any prospect, Mr. Fawkes, that you could investigate why there are so many public information ads on at present (1 in every 5). I’ll bet you a steak (Canadian) dinner that an New Labour crony owned agency is doing rather well.

      Anonymous says:

Glad someone else has noticed that.

Back in the day, the only govt ads were about safe cycling with that old cartoon bloke, not to use your car horn when passing horses, and not to put a rug on a newly polished wooden floor (might as well be a bear trap !).

And typically they were on at about 1am in the morning, just before teletext took over.

Nowadays every prime time ad break will tell me about swin flu & chlamydia & how to shop benefit cheats. Is it part of ITV / C4′s public service remit ? Or are we paying for it ? And if so, are we paying market rates ?

      • 47

David Cameron says he will privatise the entire public health programme (all £3 billion of it). Under Cameron the ad agencies will be paid according to “outcomes” so, for example, the more people who give up smoking, drink less, have a chlamydia test, etc, the more the ad agencies will be paid. My guess is that you will see more TV ads.

Remember: Cameron is bluLabour, so don’t expect anything better from him than you already get from nuLabour.

      Lord Carrington's binoculars says:

Was driving back from Castle Bromwich the other day, listening to the local station ‘Galaxy’.

In one break of five adverts, four where from the government and one was for Coco pops.

The government ads covered asbestos (twice), child trust funds and some kind of remedial maths and English lessons for adults.

      WTF?

O/T Just read Nadines blog from the Guido’s linky thing. She has abandoned the tradtion of standing still with her back to the wall when the Speaker passes in procession. I can’t fault her logic:

If you want to drop the tradition of wearing the Speaker’s dress, then don’t expect me to honour the tradition of standing still in the corridor when you move along it. You don’t pick and choose traditions. If you do you begin to erode away at what brings millions of pounds into this country each year via our tourism economy. You erode the authority of the Speaker’s chair and, by doing so, erode the authority of Parliament itself.

This is a misunderstanding; it is not a tradition relating to the Speaker, but a tradition relating to the current incumbent. According to rumour it started when he was in halls at Oxford.

Sounds like good tactics to me. NuLab has spent the best part of the last 15 years lying its arse off, smearing opponents, not to mention bribing and cowing people into voting for them (with public money, too), so why shouldn’t the Lib Dems?

I like the Lib Dems’ strategy. Indeed, the more outrageous the accusations, the better because ministers and MPs will have to spend all their time refuting them.

We know, for instance, that Brown plans to introduce new taxes on windows and gardens: the more windows and bigger the garden, the more tax you will pay. Brown also plans to tax dog ownership, second-hand books and double garages.

I bet you won’t find this in the Labour manifesto. That is because they won’t tell you.

Moreover, Brown is also planning incentives for voting Labour: he will promise increased central government funding for those constituencies that return Labour MPs.

Dur! I forgot – his government already do this.

Susan Kramer writes: “Thanks to everyone who has joined the Kingston Hospital campaign over the last few days. Nearly 4000 people have already signed the petition and over 6500 joined the Facebook group . . Edward Davey MP and I have been told face to face, by four NHS chief executives and one senior clinician, at four separate meetings that this proposal is being actively considered . . Edward and I had hoped that the campaign to save the A&E and Maternity services and could be a cross-party campaign. Disappointingly the Conservatives seem to be seeking to undermine the campaign and are choosing to play petty party politics with the issue. But it is not too late for them to come on board . . “

No doubt she will also thank Guido for giving the campaign the oxygen of publicity on his widely read website.

Her constituency minions are forever putting junk mail through the door claiming the credit for all Zac’s campaign’s and initiatives but no-one has seen hide nor hair of her for years – except in publicity photos. That hospital is heaving with Common Purpose robots.

I was taken into a ward suffering 105 temperature, and nasty symptoms. Next day a robot woke me at 5 am, told me I must have been taking drugs to be so sick, and that my illness must be my own fault and that I should not be treated.

I left and went to a Private Hospital which diagnosed a life threatening condition of a malfunctioning nervous system. It cost me £20,000 overall to get well again, but it’s not the money that matters. Robots with programmed brains should not be running hospitals or public services.

No doubt a robot will come up with a false document to add evidence to the closure story. The nurses and doctors were first class. But the political apparatchiks in there are killing people. The Police State is alive and well inside Kingston Hospital.
