Quote of the Day

David Cameron said

“The moment a burglar steps over your threshold, and invades your property, with all the threat that gives to you, your family and your livelihood, I think they leave their human rights outside.”

    Common sense.

Do you have a problem with it?

Nope. Said burglar fails in his duty of responsibility towards others at that point. A level of degree must remain or we’ll have killings all over the place so it can’t be taken as simply as that, whatever people might want. Currently though if you injured a burglar in self defence the police would like as not arrest YOU.
This can’t be right, but then the police have a lot on their mind what with trying to stay the right side of New Labour’s obsession with peoples’ rights and are very busy, what with charging people for blowing their nose whilst stationary in traffic jams. Or putting 80-year old ladies in police vans for upbrading errant teenagers who were kicking footballs at their properties. I do support the police. They have a very difficult job to do on our behalf and we all should. But for heaven’s sake!

That’s just tabloid nonsense. The law offers a great deal of leeway for people to defend themselves against burglars -and it has for centuries. The laws on self defense and reasonable force have got precisely bugger all to do with this Labour government.

In the US the law is that if the burglar is between you and the door your life is at risk. If it’s the otherway around you should walk away.

  5. 6

A burglar is initiating force and so others have a SUPERIOR right to defend themselves. It is not a case of “leaving rights at the door”.

An example of how Cameron knows NOTHING and is just spewing out verbiage to secure one aim: power.

Cameron is as dangerous, if not more so, than the Clunking Fister.

In Florida / US we shoot and kill the bastard. And no, we don’t go to jail. The law is on the good people’s side.
Outside the house, if somebody assaults us and our life is in danger, we have the right to shoot and kill. No more BS “Law of equivalent proportions”, was signed into law a few years ago by Gov. Jeb Bush.
Result: we have the bad guys on the run. Put a sign on your house or fence “Protected by Smith & Wesson” and the burglar moves to an easier target.

    Ben says:

The law already allows you to defend yourself. It gives you a lot of leeway. It allows you to make mistakes. It allows you to overreact because of fear or panic.

And remember…. it’s not up to judges or the government what force is ‘reasonable’. It’s always up to a bunch of ordinary people, just like you and me. We get to decide. Not judges, not Dave.

    Brilliant quote, and absolutely right.

This sort of clear principle is what people want to hear from parties right now.
