While UNemployment decreased 7000 last quarter, employment decreased by 14,000. The gap being explained by flows into “economic inactivity”.

Sheer journalistic laziness meant that they got away with the outrageous spin, given that it is employment, not unemployment that should reflect economic growth, and that most people will never imagine that both fell.
