As Paul Waugh points out, George Osborne and his team are rather pleased with this effective endorsement of their position by the Fed Chairman. Bernanke’s quote does rather show that Brown isn’t leading the world in quite the way that he likes to claim.

Please do not forget that he was aided and abetted by Brown and all the other members of the ‘cabinet’ – except for Claire Short. Ms Short is a woman I long had little regard for until she distanced herself from the war mongering Labour government. Then, Parliament should consider re-instating the death penalty and retrospectively have Blair executed for his crime.
I also believe that his wife should be investigated for abuse of her husband’s public office. If it is found that she used his position to enrich herself she should be imprisoned. If she is found to have supported her husband in his treason, that is a separate charge.
Those members of the ‘cabinet’ who were in a position to bear direct responsibility for defence matters, for the rule of law and for the democratic process of government should, I submit, be investigated, also, for treason.

A quick search into a series of NGO websites concerning Third World Issues leaves me in no doubt that as far as these pressure groups are concerned, Climate Change a.k.a Global Warming is a fact.
One example of how the mind set operates.

Given that farmers throughout the ages have been highly weather sensitive and that drought comes and goes throughout the world, it is interesting that she has been ‘fed’ global warming’ as the cause of her deprivation. 50 years ago it would have been the ‘juju’ or witches curse.
Admirable how the ambassadors of climate change, whose funding depends on its ‘existence’ ,can provide a peasant woman with a throughly 21st Century view of her problem.

They fight like cats for research grants, fight emotional hate campaigns against rivals over decades, seduce their students, of both sexes and generally enjoy, at the top of the career tree, a very well funded and leisured life-style jetting around the world to conferences and visiting-professorships. In Britain ‘honours’ play a role at the very top.
They have a lot to gain by raising the profile and importance of their research fields in terms of grants and prestige both for themselves and their academic institutions.
And a lot to lose should their science be found wanting.

I’ve just watched Newsnight – IMO Watson (the warmie) was allowed to deliver his ‘message’ repeatedly (“Climate Change is real, deniers have nothing to contribute except abuse, no I can’t justify the actions suggested in the emails”).
Mark Marono tried to raise the issues of bad science, warmie scientists who’d resiled from their previous position and whether global warming was actually taking place at all. Predictably the Newsnight presenter either had no comprehension whatsoever of the issues, or was controlling the debate to stifle criticism of warmie science by deniers.
Watson’s aside at the end just illustrates the arrogance of the warmie brigade.
And what prey tell has that got to do with “Science”?

JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Morgan Stanley will be watching closely as 192 nations gather in Copenhagen next week to try to forge a new climate-change treaty that would, for the first time, include the U.S. and China.
U.S. Cap and Trade
Those two economies are the biggest emitters of CO2 , the most ubiquitous of the gases found to cause global warming. The Kyoto Protocol, whose emissions targets will expire in 2012, spawned a carbon-trading system in Europe that the banks hope will be replicated in the U.S. The U.S. Senate is debating a clean-energy bill that would introduce cap and trade for U.S. emissions. A similar bill passed the House of Representatives in June. The plan would transform U.S. industry by forcing the biggest companies — such as utilities, oil and gas drillers and cement makers — to calculate the amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases they emit and then pay for them.
Estimates of the potential size of the U.S. cap-and-trade market range from $300 billion to $2 trillion.
Banks Moving In
Banks intend to become the intermediaries in this fledgling market. Although U.S. carbon legislation may not pass for a year or more, Wall Street has already spent hundreds of millions of dollars hiring lobbyists and making deals with companies that can supply them with “carbon offsets” to sell to clients. JPMorgan, for instance, purchased ClimateCare in early 2008 for an undisclosed sum. This month, it paid $210 million for Eco-Securities Group Plc, the biggest developer of projects used to generate credits offsetting government-regulated carbon emissions.
Financial institutions have also been investing in alternative energy, such as wind and solar power, and lending to clean-technology entrepreneurs. The banks are preparing to do with carbon what they’ve done before: design and market derivatives contracts that will help client companies hedge their price risk over the long term. They’re also ready to sell carbon-related financial products to outside investors. Masters says banks must be allowed to lead the way if a mandatory carbon-trading system is going to help save the planet at the lowest possible cost. And derivatives related to carbon must be part of the mix, she says.
Derivatives are securities whose value is derived from the value of an underlying commodity — in this case, CO2 and other greenhouse gases.
‘Heavy Involvement’
“This requires a massive redirection of capital,” Masters says. “You can’t have a successful climate policy without the heavy, heavy involvement of financial institutions.”
In 2008, after U.S. home prices plunged, the cost of protection against subprime-mortgage bond defaults jumped. Insurer American International Group Inc. , which had sold billions in CDSs, was forced into government ownership, roiling markets and helping trigger the worst global recession since the 1930s. Lawmakers Leery Now, that story — and the entire role the banks played in the credit crisis — has become central to the U.S. carbon debate. Washington lawmakers are leery of handing Wall Street anything new to trade because the bitter taste of the credit debacle lingers.
And their focus is on derivatives.
Along with CDSs, the most-notorious derivatives are the collateralized-debt obligations they often insured. CDOs are bundles of subprime mortgages and other debt that were sliced into tranches and sold to investors. “

Meanwhile, the U.S. EPA is expected to finalize its endangerment ruling on CO2 on Monday—the kickoff day of Copenhagen—making regulations on CO2 legally mandated and all but inevitable. That’s likely to help motivate the Senate, where Sens. John Kerry (D-Mass.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) are busy working out a compromise bill that can get 60 votes. Kerry released the Foreign Relations Committee’s contribution to the bill today, which would authorize programs, including adaptation funding and technology transfer, that the U.S. is expected to offer as part of a deal in Copenhagen..

I listened to p.m. yesterday interviewing Prof Watson, one of Jones colleagues, he appeared to admit that they had manipulated tree ring data because it did not fit the theory but that it was not an important factor.
You have to ask yourself does a tree that details its own trauma give a truer picture of what is happening or a so called scientist deleting or ignoring data because it does not give him the answer he expects?
