Get Down to William Hill Fast

Just got £100 on Labour to win Glasgow East tonight @ 1/2. A 50% return overnight?  Seems way too generous.  Labour should be home easily…

Same as the bankers, use a few small bonuses to ordinary members of staff to justify and hide the excessive ones paid to the ones further up the food chain.

I have always opposed bonuses except for someone doing something really exceptional.

          • Moderate Comment says:

Why is it necessary to pay bonuses? Your contract of employment should state that you do a particular line of work for a paticular salary.
If you do the job well you should get praise, if you do the job badly you should be sacked.
This policy should be adopted in all departments taking public moneys starting with members of Parliament.

Perhaps the nice folk at TJL Solictors, who helped an MOD typist to a £484,000.00 award for repetitive strain injury could also add some insight here…

In the real world, I work as an SQL DBA for a company that supplies, under contract to the MoJ, postal vote verification and counting software and hardware to local authorities and regional assemblies (not saying who I work for or which councils we supply, for obvious reasons) Did you know that a returning officer can declare results on a 20% sampling of the postal votes returned? And that some results have indeed been “fudged” this way, quite legally? Only a direct challenge in the High Court would be able to obtain all the votes cast and see what the real result would have been.

          • Inspector Cyril Blake says:

yes I am quite sure. For what it’s worth, i was shocked too when I found out. It’s been the law for some time now, certainly since 2006 which si when i came across it. Nobody talks about it much, I’ve probably only once seen it mentioned in the press, again about 3 years ago during the local elections postal voting fiasco in Scotland. Which i was actually working on at the time, which is how I know. It’s statute though.

to be fair, election officers are to a man, an honest bunch (very decent hard working people) and I haven’t ever been involved myself with any elections that weren’t at least declared for postals at less than 90%, but you can see, even there, there’s a significant margin for error. Most do insist on 100% or as close to, allowing for spoils and disqualifieds, but there have been some that I know of that have been declared for postals at 20%. It’s really quite beyond belief some of the legislation that’s been sneaked through over the years, and there’s worse to come (electronic counting of all votes, not just postals, it terrifies me, it really does.)

Alan Johnson says the bonuses are paid because MoD staff face the same risks as frontline troops.

Civil servants he said have to go into the frontline to develop mechanisms to protect troops from IEDs!!!!!

I’ve ceased being shocked at the barefaced lies these people tell when faced with more and more scandal.

But someone needs to tell Mr Johnson that if MoD staff are being given bonuses for developing mechanisms to keep our troops safe from IED’s it is a mockery as most of our troops who are dying are dying from IED’s – he’s clearly missed that point.

Good point. Do the civvies heading for the war zone also have to buy their own body armour?

Maybe it should be paid for out of their bonuses, the bonuses that those serving and dying on the front line don’t get….

          • Agent 99 says:

If the civvies get bonuses for designing shit to prevent the squaddies getting blown up why don’t the squaddies get bonuses for having to run the gauntlet?

One bonus they could give the squaddies while in a war zone is no income tax at all. I think its immoral someone fighting to protect us has to still pay to keep the labour voting Wayne and Waynetta and the little brat ‘winettes’ in fags and canned larger

          • Steve Expat says:

            Civvies don’t design, they procure.

          • thick as thieves says:

what is going on lizzie is that MOD bureaucrats are being paid bonuses to cut the funding of our soldiers.
that is what is going on.
which in turn means that the MOD staff are profiting from the deaths of British soldiers. the more they cut the military budget the more soldiers die from lack of kit. the bigger the MOD bonus, the more soldiers unnecessarily lose their lives.
such behaviour by the MOD bureacrats is not only immoral and illegal but also, I believe, constitutes an act of High Treason.
therefore any member of staff of the MOD who accepts a bonus payment should be considered a traitor and be treated as a profiteer of soldiers’ deaths and so should be hanged from their necks until they are dead.
and then their corpse should be thrown to the mob for baying crowd to rip the traitors’ corpses apart and then throw the traitors’ torn flesh and bones to the dogs.
all this would require the prior approval of a court, ofcourse.

Poor educational input = poor educational results.

I grew up near the old BL plant in Longbridge. The kids I went to school with would revel in their idiocy and how it didn’t matter ‘cos their uncle would get them a job at ‘The Austin’. And their parents would reinforce the idiocy.

Don’t worry Darren, school neva did me any good. But it didn’t really matter ‘cos I got a job down ‘the Austin’. It’s great.

These kids are failed by their parents and failed by a Labour government that panders to their defeatist, self-perpetuating idiot creed. In fact Labour relies on such a mind-set. It is Orwellian abuse of language for Blair to bang on about ‘education, education and education’. The last thing Speaker Martin or Gordon Brown could seriously want for their constituents is that they be educated. Because there is no way on God’s earth that a constituency with an aggregate IQ greater than a fish would vote in a Labour government after the complete social and economic clusterfuck they’ve perpetrated this past 12 years.

These shirkers should have the gumption to work in a Bank so they can sponge of the taxpayer in style and at a much greater cost to the taxpayer

Or they shoud pull themselves up by their bootstraps and get everything handed to them on a silver spoon from their parents like the Eton crowd. That takes real guts and independednce

The only solution is to shove them back up chimney’s get toddlers back down pits and those who can’t make it in todays 100% employment economy should be ground up into pet-food and sold for a profit

          • jgm2 says:

Naaah. What they should do is vote in a Labour government that has promised an end to boom and bust. Then they can sit there and watch it rig record low interest rates to ramp up the price of houses and fuel a massive borrowing binge PLUS piss 35bn quid a year in a ‘boom’ into the economy to pay one million arseholes, bedwetters and bastards that we could easily mange without.

And then, when it all goes tits up they can blame the yanks and the banks. And, lest we forget – not blame the banks for lending them too much money soi that they’re now all in hock to their eyeballs. Fuck no.

They’re going to blame the banks because they’ve stopped fucking lending them money.

            That’s what they should do.

Reckless borrowing and squandering of un-earned income got us into this shitty mess. So, what we need to do to fix this is to return to the same rate of reckless borrowing and squandering as 2007. That’ll fix it.

            Jackasses.

          • Hooray for the Bankers! says:

“Reckless borrowing and squandering of un-earned income got us into this shitty mess”

Yes, it was called leveraging yourself to the hilt (40-1 anyone?) to bet on worthless Credit Default Swaps and Collaterallised Loan Obligations so they could reap hundreds of Billions in short term Bonuses while fucking their own companies and the entire economy

look it up sometime when you can tear yourself away from scapegoating the poor
and look up what Dave ever said or did to discourage the lending you seem so upset over and his many wise warning words reproaching the City that gambled on shit and lost

Brown fucked it but Dave didn’t say a peep against it when it was happening

          • jgm2 says:

I don’t know what Dave had to say. I do know Michael Howard got stuck into Brown one budget for his borrow and squander profligacy. I’m not Pro-Tory at this point. I’m anybody but Labour. And the Tories are the party best positioned to throw the incompetent bastards out.

I’m afraid it is that simple.

I do know that Brown ignored years of warnings from the IMF. I do know Brown deliberately changed the inflation proxy to justify even lower interest rate back in 2004/2005 in good time for the election when house prices started to flag a little.

I do know I was flagging this up on other fora for years before it all went pear-shaped. And I do know that I was hounded by Labour-party-scripted jackasses.

If I said ‘Look – this borrowing is insane’ they would come back with ‘No, it’s great that people feel so confident under a Labour government that they’re prepared to take on these levels of debt’.

            I shit you not.

Prudence was officially defenestrated back in 2004.

I don’t know what the fucking banks were playing at either but countries with sensible regulators like Australia and Canada have sailed through this ‘global recession which started in America and has fuck-all to do with me Gordon Brown’.

I could even forgive Brown for his recklessness if he acknowl;edged his guilt and started to fix the problem. But what galls me to the point that my piss is boiling is that, just as he couldn’t even admit he’s spelled that dead soldiers anme wrong when it was there in black and white so he cannot admit he fucked up totally and so he’s steering the entire UK a further 18 months down the shitter out of sheer stubborness.

The equivilent would be the Tories refusing to admit defeat on Black Wednesday and continuing to pour money into propping up the pound for the next 18 months. Rather than just taking their beating.

Can you imagine Brown in the same situation?

Oh. Of course. We don’t need to imagine it.

From what I read yesterday the stupid bugger is promising clampdowns on letting engineers, IT specialists and so on into the country.

          WTF?

With the state of the British education system, the country needs to import skilled professionals. Even worse, they’re not even the problem.

The small number of educated professionals who arrive in Britain, work, pay their taxes and integrate. The people Brown should be worrying about (because they’re the ones getting the Beans ‘n’ Peas in a tizzy) are the armies of goatherders and tree dwellers who have no chance of ever working, claim everything they can and jump the housing queues (at least that’s what Mr Griffin and his chums believe).

Either Brown is a complete moron who has lost the plot or he’s simply pretending to be concerned for electoral advantage. Either way, the Hoon shouldn’t be in office.

Spam, the only thing that will cause a ‘huge house price rise’ is the return of cheap and easy credit. It was that that caused the massively inflated bubble we have now and which will implode with a vengeance once the futility of QE ends. To turn on the credit tap again we need millions of people eager to borrow recklessly and we need the return of the mortgage backed securities market.

Neither are going to happen so you can kiss the house price bubble goodbye. A conservative estimate is that UK house prices will fall 35 to 40% within 2 years. I expect it to be more than that.

Brown Wants Us to Watch the Ashes!

The Prime Mentalist has made his second personal call of the week, this time to Rupert Murdoch to whinge about the Sun. He followed this up by arranging for TV coverage of the Ashes to be re-admitted to the sporting “crown jewels” tomorrow, in order to deprive Sky Sports of its exclusive broadcast rights.

Can we expect another telephone transcript in the Sun?

It’s encouraging to see McDoom rates cricket so highly. This being the case, perhaps we won’t need to pay for his Sky Sports subscription any more?

The nation should be reassured: the demand for “ashes” on terrestrial TV will be met far sooner than the next visit of the Australian cricket team.

If you believe that then you clearly have no idea of the changes that have taken place in many working class communities inc Glasgow and the NE, over the past 12 years.

Some places had succumbed to the benefits culture already back then but it has spread hugely under Labour particularly among school leavers, many of whom go straight onto benefits with no intention of even looking for work even when there are jobs on the doorstep.

Such behaviour was far less prevalent 12 years ago.

Anyone who can’t see the degradation and corruption wrought on sections of the working class by years of Labour policies, must be very naive.

This theory that Labours vote is comprised of dole bludgers is bollocks. In my experience most professional layabouts, and i meet plenty, don’t bother to vote. They work on the theory that they’ll get on with their business whoevers in government. After all,Thatcher put millions on benefits, but had the grace to leave them in peace to sort out their little scams and bunts, without putting any pressure on them to get a job, unlike Labour’s present blitz on the idle. The turnout in areas of high benefit claimants is usually below the national average.

There is one teeny flaw in that argument though. To be redeemed in person. At Morrisons.

And ll those one million ‘middle class professional’ bedwetters, diversity co-ordinators, arseholes and bastards recruited since 2001. And I know their recruitment has been targetted into tradiotional Labour areas.

          • A fly on the bunker wall says:

The Labour meltdown of 1979 in fairness was not entirely their fault. That decade had seen great industrial and social decay. Am i right in saying we had 5 elections in just over ten years? The memory dims with age,but it was a roller coaster ride that led to disaster. However, this government has had virtually unopposed total control for twelve years and has pulled off a political spectacular on a par with the fall of the Roman empire or Adolfs farewell concert.
It’s hard to see future historians not using this example as a classic study in failure.

          • jgm2 says:

You have said it before and I take some small crumb of comfort from it.

          • jgm2 says:

however, this government has had virtually unopposed total control for twelve years and has pulled off a political spectacular on a par with the fall of the Roman empire or Adolfs farewell concert.

And therein lies the tragedy. They had a free run at it for 12 years. They couldn’t blame having to make compromises or cut deals with coalition partners or internal dissenters.

They inherited a balanced and growing economy. They had enormous public goodwill. There was no devisive class-war undertones.

Politically, socially and economically it couldn’t get more perfect.

And they completely fucked it up. They lost control of the economy, they destroyed our socail cohesion, they got us involved in not one but two wars – at least one of them for purely political reasons, they reignited the class war by spending more parliamentary time trying to piss off ‘toff’ fox-hunters than they did considering the Iraq war, the began the process of breaking up the UK in the belief that while they’d eventullay lose the UK election they’d always have Scotland to practice their idiot policies in.

In short it has been a 12 year masterclass in devisiveness, disingenuity and utter incompetence. It’s been like Lord of the Flies – like letting some adolescents loose with A-bombs and a printing press.

            It’s been a fucking disaster.

And all Labour have to say for themselves is. It’s not our fault. It’s the yanks. It’s the banks.

          • Dack Blog says:

I agree. As a public sector worker I’m not blind to the problems. I’d love to see the incompetents thrown out of my workplace. But the sun shining out of the arse of the private sector is bullshit. Fucking hell we’ve just spent billions bailing out the private sector, and little/no accountability. Privatisation of previously public services hasn’t turned out to be the promised land in many cases. I don’t blindly defend the public sector just because I work in it. A bit of balance and a reality check would be good from both ’sides’.

          • Egg and Cheese says:

Unfortunately, lots of the rabid right wingers seem to believe that public sector workers are all PC obsessed scum.Just because a man emptying your dustbin doesn’t require a high intellectual capacity doesn’t make him any less of a key worker and member of society, than the doctor or dare i say politician.

          • Steve Expat says:

DB, I agree with you to a point.

A certain sector may have been bailed out in the last year, but the vast majority of the private sector are staring at redundancies (I was without work for 6 months) and pay cuts – while some of those employed by us go on strike because their pay rise wasn’t high enough!

          • Engineer says:

I’ve seen both public and private sectors. Both contain dedicated, hard-working people, and both contain incompetents and malingerers. The difference seems to be that whilst many (not all) companies in the private sector cannot afford to ‘carry passengers’ – and consequently doesn’t, the public sector (again – not always) is often prepared to tolerate them. Also, there tends to be more direction in the private sector, because a profit has to be turned, but fatter bureaucracies in the public sector tend to slow things down, and tend to breed tasks that would not be regarded as essential in the private sector (e.g. the oft-quoted ‘diversity co-ordinators’ etc).

          • Dack Blog says:

Some do, yes. But tarring a whole sector with the same brush isn’t (if you don’t mind me saying) very intelligent. Anyway, not all said strikes are about pay. I’m sure some in the private sector would be justified in withdrawing their labour in some circumstances, but then unions are not allowed/encouraged for that very reason. I’ve worked about half and half in the public and private sectors, so I do have experience of both, and neither was ‘all good’ nor ‘all bad’.

          • A fly on the bunker wall says:

A lot of the bureaucracy, health and safety, diversity monitors and the like,is down to the litigious nature of our legal system. How many cases do you see of people sueing public bodies over often perceived injustice?Trip on a paving slab?Turned down for promotion because you’re a c’unt?Where there’s blame, there’s a claim.

I’m afraid blaming the bankers is mere parrotting of Labour deflection propaganda.

Did you not see those ads they put on before the last election to try and encourage folk to vote? People giving it ‘I’m not interested in politics…’ and then finding nobody would talk to them about any subject because, guess what, politics touches practically every aspect of our lives?

Do you remember? Well that’s what we have here. If the banks were lending money recklessly to the point where it could crash the entire economic well-being of the UK then where was the government while all this was going on?

Massive boom in consumer indebtedness going on. The IMF warning them regularly about the levels of government deficit and consumer indebtedness and they (the government) simply ignored it?

Why do you think that was?

          Incompetence? Recklessness? Stubborness? Political expediency?

          All of the above?

Brown’s an incompetent cun’t for getting into bed with them and doing everything they wanted while turning his back on actually regulating the Square mile branch of Gamblers Anonymous so he could reap the growth and ask no questions about it’s long term viability

But Dave and the other Conservative leaders said sweet fuck all about properly regulating them or slowing down growth or unaffordable consumer spending while it was happening either. Did they ?

They weren’t the Government so they rightly don’t take the electoral hit
but it proves they were as clueless as Brown

High credit levels were just a small part of this
The orgy of Bonus hunting reckless gambling on CDS and CLOs was what turned it into far more than a mere downturn and into the worst recession in decades

You can blame Brown for failing to reign in the excess and you’d be right

But there was discomfort among all the mainstream political parties at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, with early reports suggesting the (party we cannot name) had clinched third place.

This is despite the Conservatives dispatching a series of shadow Cabinet heavyweights to the constituency, including David Cameron and George Osborne. Ruth Davidson, the Tory candidate, was also perceived to have run a strong campaign.

Furious Tory and Labour sources claimed the BBC were to blame for providing the party with unprecedented exposure.

    Total votes cast – 20,595
    Voter turnout – 32.97%
    Rejected ballots – 43

Funny watching Zanu and their mates at Pravda trying to spin this as a great victory for Labour. If Glasgow North East ever became close then Labour would really be in trouble. The result cannot really have been in any doubt;a traditionally Labour seat, one of the poorest in the country;massive increase in registration of postal votes; if Labour lost this one even with the SNP snapping at their heels it would be catastrophic for the party with the likelihood of them holding less than 100 seats after an election. Interesting for the fact that the BeanNpee came close to overtaking the Tory vote. Labour has real problems in their “traditional areas” with this party hence Gordon’s “new” immigration stance yesterday

Interesting as the result is and no doubt Labour and its “Master’s Voice” the BBC will be trumpetting it as a “famous victory” – the general election will not be won in Scotland. The Midlands where there are significant numbers of marginal will I predict will go Tory in droves as will some parts of the North AND what about Wales where strangely the Tory vote is starting to worrry sitting Labour politicians.

Labour may hang on to Scotland but it’s unlikely they’ll hang on in England and Wales
