Stat Porn : Guido v the Best of the Left

Guido on BlackThe blog you love, and they hate, had 1,526,279 page views from 882,794 visits from 206,965 visitors last month. To which, via the feed, is to be added another 721,280 views from 63,856 visits by 7,365 subscribers.  So a not unhealthy 2 million plus hits

Left-of-centre bloggers always claim that they will become more popular when they are in opposition, so Guido was curious to check their traffic levels before they go into opposition.  (They perhaps forget that Guido will still be in opposition to the government).  The self-styled most popular left-of-centre politics blog had, according to Guido’s web spies, some 220,000 page-views from some 76,000 visits by some 36,000 visitors. These figures are necessarily estimates as they are derived from competitive intelligence.  LabourList, according to the same source, actually has more traffic with some 320,000 page views from 92,000 visits by some 25,000 visitors.  The data will allow them to argue who is more popular in what terms…

You can enter the url of competitor sites on alexa.com to find their traffic rankings and a host of other information. You can also see sites linking in and also preceding sites (on the Clickstream links).

As far as I am aware, alexa.com is owned by google.

        Well done Guido!!!

The GramscoFabiaNazis will never be “in opposition”, because they genuinely and sicerely believe that they never are: that “history is on their side”.

They, and in the incarnation which we have sadly to deal with in the 21st-century UK, are the single most dangerous event to befall this planet in its entire history. (And I’m not exaggerating.) if they succeed and we fail, then churchill’s grave hypothesisations in his “Finest Hour” speech will pale by comparison with what humanity will then suffer.

Be alert. (No glib jokes please, all you underemployed forex guys. Your cause, and people’s, is not served by snide one-liners.)

Look, I’m trying to make a serious point here, and all you drunken bonus-earners do is shout rude names at the Enemy Class, instead of calmly sneaking up on them in their Starbuck’s coffee-break in Victoria street (or wherever) and slicing off their heads with a cheeswire.

Every PM needs an effective opposition says:

Glad to see you will be in opposition guido.

All governments need an effective opposition in order to be effective themselves.

I believe one of the reasons why New Labour made such a hash of things was that the Conservative opposition was totally useless and at times non existent.

          Hildegard Hinxey says:

Oh ye of little faith! Labour ARE on course to win the general election and anyone who thinks the Sun will shape the voting intentions of the British people seriously underestimates their intelligence. The people will vote Labour when they recall with gratitude the minimum wage, Sure Start, the tripling in size of the NHS, the fact that 2.5 million children have been lifted out of poverty, the Equality Bill and Gordon Brown’s single-handed salvage of the world banking system with literally seconds to spare.

People sympathise with Gordon Brown as they would with anyone carrying the world on his shoulders and anyone who has met him will commend him as a warm human being with an infectious sense of humour and natural affinity with the underdog. The few doubters and nay-sayers will come to their senses when Gordon Brown sets out his vision, possibly as early as next March. The scales will then fall from their eyes and they will realise that all the Tories have to offer is an inheritance tax cut for about 500 closet racists in the Cotswolds and nothing for the hard-working majority that have worked their fingers to the bone to build the New Jerusalem.

After thirteen years in government, Labour have delivered on seven eighths of their promises although nobody denies that there is much still to do and I for one still love this old party even though it sometimes seems to me that I have lived my life like a candle in the wind.

          • Great Granddad says:

May the wind blow on the party and you, both. May the party wither on the vine for not delivering on any of its promises, but most of all for not delivering on the PROMISED referendum.

I will ban men after – women can reproduce forever using IVF. I will also demand a cosy appointment to run a survey into this fact, paid for by the sexist males who work everyday.

Just because Latvia is a small country does not give the Foreign Secretary the right to put cheap party spin before the national interest.

His accusation of anti-Semitism against Michal Kaminski is shameful and is based on remarks which the Chief Rabbi of Poland has said were misrepresented. This kind of shoddy politics should be beneath a Foreign Secretary.

It is also indecent to allege that Eric Pickles, who has an admirable record campaigning against anti-Semitism and other forms of racism, was defending the Waffen SS. Mr Miliband should withdraw that suggestion.”

    http://www.labourlist.org/voters-ignore-the-sun-as-camerons-lead-is-slashed-to-7-points

According to a new YouGov tracking poll, released tonight, the Tories have dropped three points and Labour have gone up six – slashing the Tories’ 16 point advantage to just seven.

It’s Labour’s most significant poll spike for months, and shows that – in spite of the Sun’s best efforts – people are still willing to listen to Labour’s vision for Britain as set out by Gordon Brown yesterday.

The topline results of the poll, with the changes since last Friday in brackets, are:

    Conservatives: 37% (-3)

    Labour: 30% (+6)

    Liberal Democrats: 21% (no change)

Labour are the insurgents. As the economy continues to recover, people will return to Gordon brown because he is the only man who can deliver long-term change for Britain’s hard-working families.

Here are some highlights from Harriet Harman’s inspiring speech.

We all know that without Gordon’s leadership, with David Cameron’s policies – this country would have faced not just a recession – from which we are beginning to recover – but a devastating global depression – which would have lasted a decade.

And Gordon, we are proud of what you have done for Britain over the last 12 months. A Labour government has given people real help to cope through the recession.

Our task as a government is to make sure that we keep on with that help –
Our task as a party is to make sure that we don’t let the Tories wreck it.

Like building 20,000 new affordable homes, most of which will be council homes, the Tories oppose it.
Like the car scrappage scheme. – the Tories opposed it.
Like backing up families where both mother and father go out to work and often, now care for older relatives too. The Tories oppose it.

We mended the roof when the sun shone – the Tory plans would be like a wrecking ball which would demolish the recovery.

When it comes to public investment and public services, let’s be clear about something. This is not just a question of their misjudgement.
Its not a question of competing sets of figures.
This is a question of what you believe in.

The Tories see public investment as a millstone round the country’s neck and a drain on the public purse – we see public services as a vital part of what makes Britain prosperous and fair.

The Tories opposed every single policy which has helped us get out of recession and protect those who would have been hardest hit.

The Tories are eagerly planning cuts to vital public services

The Tories oppose our new 50% tax rate for income over £150,000 and pledge instead to cut inheritance tax for the wealthiest.

They’re beginning to set out their stall for the General Election – and it’s going to be a millionaires’ manifesto.

Gone is Cameron’s faltering attempt to move towards a more progressive position. The Tories are back to their true nature.

To know the Tory plans for the Health Service – look at what Daniel Hannan said in America

To know the Tory plans for turning against international co-operation and international trade – look at what Daniel Hannan says in Europe

To know the Tory plans to turn back progress to equality – look at Hannan’s homophobic, racist friends in Europe

Hannon is not the eccentric fringe. He is the beating heart of the Tory party.

Gordon has said we will help the hard-working majority, not the privileged few

And we will take that message out into our local communities. We are determined. We are committed. Together we’ll fight for those we represent. Together we’ll fight for a prosperous and fair Britian. And most importantly, we’ll fight to win.

They would have cut public sector jobs and done nothing to help hardworking families, sending us spiralling into depression.

They can’t all be wrong.

Never "Glad Confident Morning"- again ! says:

It’s like stopping a “tsunami” with a kitchen towel. After all the excellent work that the BBC has done over the past 12 years and the veritable orgasm of delight at Brown’s Coronation in 2007 as well but like most parties it’s all coming to a ghastly end for them and all they’re left with is the clearing up and cleaning the vomit off the carpets.

Still – it WAS good whilst it lasted but now comes the “payback” for all those good times.

I well remember the election of 2010. The corridors of Broadcasting house were strewn with an empty champagne bottle, and we now know who it belonged to.

now that is interesting – do please keep us informed, but there again, you may not want to blow your cover and put your job at risk
and no.49 @ 2.57: I too read LabourList and it is indeed full of people who hate Nulabour. Many of the articles on LL are facile and never reach beyond student politics level. But its quite sad that some of older Labour supporters (whose posts often come across as thoughtful and principled), feel terribly let down and angry with the current shower. But my sympathy doesn’t last long, because even these very fed up old Labour types will never bring themselves to vote any different. I’m an ex-labour voter, saw the error of my ways a few years ago.

The Al Yamamah deal, worth £43bn in total, has long been the subject of allegations of secret commissions to Lady Thatcher’s son Mark, and to several members of the Saudi royal family.

Successive government administrations were up to their necks in it. It was all part of doing business. If you did not do it then the French or whoever would. Try thinking Mandy and the Hinduja brothers for instance. The problem for BAE Systems is if they plea bargin and accept fraud allegations then it puts their contracts with the Pentagon at risk from Boeing, Lockheed, Rockwell et al who will canvass Capitol Hill to rescind and bar BAE from future contracts in the US.

It’s the price of keeping ‘hard working families’ in jobs. Mandy is busy pouring (bribing) money into foreign motor manufacturers (Tata to name but one) to preserve Liebour heartland jobs.

guido…presenter james obrien lbc97.3 this morning championing gordon brown’s defence, happened to mention, that the only reason marr asked the pm about his medication, was not because there wer’e rumours abound, but because of a blogger that no one has ever heard of, and that no one is even interested in (made a big point of not mentioning any names) that probably took drugs himself, based on info re pm diet. i did laugh, i thought im sure i ave heard of that blogger and i am certainly interested,
honestly the labourites are getting more and more manic.

So, you get two million a month. StackOverflow, by contrast, gets one million a day so they have about ten times your traffic.

They manage to employ four people on the ad revenue from that.

So you would get about 0.4 of a salary. Except their demographic is pretty much perfect for on-line advertising and yours is terrible, so you’re getting about 10%-20% of a salary from the ads. What do you live off?

    Guido,

It’s reassuring to know that my links to Photoshopped pictures on my apology for a blog are being advertised on such a high traffic site.

    Keep up the good work!

    Beyond Cynicism says:

A more interesting figure would be how many visits to a blog were broadly supportive of the blogger and how many were hostile towards him or her.

I have read a few of the left of centre blogs and found them, for the most part, unpalatable. Presumably, though, such visits count as ‘proving’ the popularity of and, by implication, my support for, such blog sites. By extension, the very fact that I did visit implies that I support left of centre political parties in general and perhaps the Labour party in particular.

None of this is actually true. I have visited such sites in order to understand better what my political oppressors and opponents are thinking and saying.

What we need is some way of determining the true level of support for a blogger so that they can say “I had so many unique visitors of whom x declared they were generally supportive: y declared that they were generally hostile and z kept their opinions to themselves”.

Now that would make for interesting viewing!
