This ‘no figures are definite’ is the excuse he’s been using since 2001.
2001. He sets out a five year deficit plan. 40bn this year, 35bn next year, 25bn following year 10bn, 4th year and 2bn surplus in five years time. Very specific figures but the news is that the deficit requirement will reduce year-on-year and in five years time we’ll be into budget surplus territory. Good-ho.

2005. Same. By now of course we should be at his 2bn surplus point. Fuck no. Still 40bn this year…

2008. Oops. 60bn deficit this year…

When the only miracle is how he managed to get away with such lies in full view of 60 million people and an allegedly free press.

I think his argument up to 2007 was to not tell us where the goalposts were,so no-one could tell what was going on. He pledged to meet many targets within the economic cycle which he never defined. The problem with the Scotland story is that, essentially, it’s the word of the attorney general against the word of a housekeeper who, in effect, has already admitted to deception. All of which is a good thing, in the sense that it keeps a septic story running, growing more septic by the moment, whereas a swift sacking a week or two ago would have avoided some of the damage. Campbell must be losing his touch – or not trying very hard.
The trouble is that probably 90% of the public believe the housekeeper’s rather that the UK’s Chief Law Officer. “Lolo”’s(as the Mail is affectionately calling her)story has the “ring of truth” particularly in the small details pertaining to the interview at Baroness Scotland’s house and the final killer blow is that instead of paying “Lolo” the going rate of £8 p.h the Baroness accepted “Lolo”’s offer to work for 6.00 ph whch as the Mail puts it was “considerably less than she was paying her previos cleaner and much less than one would expect to pay a cleaner in that area” So ask yourself – Why would the cleaner accept under the “market rate” and why wasn’t this fact a clear sign to the Baroness that “summat wasn’t right” with her work status ?
If this goes much further, law abiding people are going to have to take up the Fenian Defence, as a matter of course: ‘I refuse to accept the validity of this Court, or the Government it represents…’, or risk breaking the law!

I’m still interested, though, in why no one has had the wit to sack Scotland, given how obvious most of this should have been to them all. I think what is not clear about Baroness Patricia Scotland is that she is well connected. All reports that she was the “first to..” do not make clear that her husband is Barrister Richard Mawhinney and her brother-in-law Baron Brian Mawhinney who was Conservative MP from 1979 to 2005 and in the Cabinet from 1994 to 1997.
Knowingly cutting the pay rate from £8 to her previous cleaner to £6 per hour is perhaps the biggest indictment of New Labour – absolutely sickening….. and this is a woman who calls for , and lauded for her campaign on woman’s rights!!!!!!!!!
