I have Manic Depression/Bipolar Disorder

I am standing as an Independent in the next General Election in Blackburn

I hope that if I win, you won't all complain that I can't do a job and should, one day, I am chosen to lead England, you won't complain

there are over 5,000,000 manic depressives in the UK, a fair percentage of the electorate

When can we get rid of the ridiculous Harperson female thingy, this latest nonsense about childminding (used to be called looking after) is madness. Does the harperson feminist thingy really believe that all men have sex with their own children AND beat their wives. We all know it happens occasionally but namby pamby social worker harperson female thingy tars all men with the same brush. She is a disgrace, a toff, in the wrong party and should not be involved in creating laws that make the decent majority guilty until proven innocent.

I think you're the one who need sthe pills John old boy! - what planet are you on?

One of the symptoms of bi-polart disorder is a total convicition of your own invincibility and power when in the manic stage. This might well explain Gordon's conviction - share dby no-one else! - that he has 'saved the world economy'. Such delusions are characteristic of the disorder.

I don't in general think a PM's medical records are any of our business - PMs from William Pitt the Ygr to Winston Churchill have had severe medical problems as well as being eg alcoholics, and still performed brilliantly. We need to be remember that brilliant people often differ from the 'norm', whilst adherence to the norm is often evidence of mediocrity. We should not exclude people with health problems from public life as a matter of course: it's important those with experience of the public's problems are allowed to represent them.

BUT - IF Broon does suffer from Bi-Polar disorder, and I think it's the most likely explanation for his strange psychology, then that is dangerous, since sufferers are frequently delusional in the manic phase and their judgement is not to be trusted. On the other hand in the depressive phase sufferers would be incapable of decisive action or indeed any kind of decision-making - sound familiar?.

It's a notoriously difficult syndrome to treat and chronic sufferers do not respond for any length of time to standard treatments (eg daily Lithium). And since symptoms manifesrt on a constantly sliding scale it's hard for observers to get a handle on stages of the problem, inc which stage a sufferer is in at any one moment.

Many extremely talented people suffer from Bi-Polar syndrome, but they usually work in eg the Arts, ie creative professions where their problems don't affect others outside their immediate families. A PM with this propblem would be a danger to his country and his party.

I tend to agree with Ollie and detect the hand of Mandelson.

Gordon's gone into this conference with a cabinet in disarray, an Attorney General potentially about to be fired for fibbing and another leadership rebellion in the offing. To keep his Euro masters happy, Mandie is desperate to keep Gordon on the throne and avoid a change of leader and the inevitable general election. He doesn't actually care about Gordon, but this has two advantages. Firstly the creation of a smokescreen, diverting attention from other issues. Secondly it gets Gordo's back up and makes him even more determined to hang on - I mean, no normal person would want to leave office known as the "PM who needed extra rations of Special Smarties", and this is Broon the Delusional we're talking about.

Then again Marr might have started to grow a pair in which case I shall collect my coat and tinfoil hat on my way out

Yes. All difference of opinion is driven by "jealousy". Seriously.

Is it that hard to believe that I simply believe it's wrong to ridicule mental health issues and call for the death of a public figure? Of course, I must just be "jealous".

And what does my blog have to do with it? It's a labour of love, nothing to do with left-right politics, created primarily for the people I know and care about.
