Calatrava was desperately engaged in making a composite pastiche of all things Scots. It is a thing of beauty, but it sits in Edinburgh like a flower amidst a sea of granite.

EU law insisted that this ‘sovereign parliament’ put the building’s design out to open tender. Fantastic though it is, there is nothing Scots about it.
