+++ Jim Devine MP Referred to Met Police +++

little porkbusterHopefully Jim will have got his story straight by the time they ask him to explain the fake invoice from a fake company with a fake VAT number.  He has given the Scottish press various explanations involving pubs and cash.  That should work Jim…  Not.

The reality is that no MP is going to do time over this, and anyone who thinks otherwise is pretty gullible.

But I dont see how Brown can justify his lame duck govt any further when he has clearly no mandate now.

The ONLY solution to this is to go to the people now.

        Hamish Macbeth says:

Does there need to be a “trial”?

Surely any charges against the 6 or so who have reallly taken the piss should merit an early “guilty plea”.

How do you explain away claiming for a mortgage you paid off 18 months ago – or fake invoices from fake companies and fake VAT numbers – or claiming to live in a run down flat miles away when your websites and the neighbours say otherwise.

Most hardened lags would throw a guilty plea into charges of fraud under these circs at court…. with mitigation that “everyone was at it” – “I paid it straight back” – “I had less than others who’s legal claims were equally as morally wrong” etc etc

Devine DONE BY HIS OWN SIDE! says:

LABOUR ACTIVISTS are to take the unprecedented step of calling on police to investigate one of their party’s MPs for alleged fraud. Jim Devine, the member for Livingston, will today face his local constituency party over his expenses claims.

The Sunday Herald has a copy of a “round robin” letter, signed by six Labour members in Livingston, which activists say will be handed to Lothian and Borders Police this evening.

It states: “We wish to formally lodge a complaint of fraud and embezzlement against Jim Devine MP.”

Devine also pulled out of a meeting with local councillors on Friday due to “ill-health”.

Devine is a goner. As for Uddin, it gets even worse. OK there is the south London flat she had designated as her main home which she had never lived in. But between 2001 & 2005 she was claiming for a property that didn’t exist, allegedly! Prepare HMP Holloway. There can be no doubt that this will be the main residence of the Baroness. Send her down.

Shouldn’t someone be taking her passport away in case she tries to disappear off to her Bangladeshi brothel permanently?
If she did do that, wouldn’t she be able to carry on claiming her H.O.L. wage indefinitely?

Call me an old sceptic, but I predict that we will hear nothing more for many months and then it will be quietly announced that there will be no prosecutions. The reason given will be ‘insufficient evidence’, ‘not in the public interest’,'irresponsible leaks of information by the media prejudicing a free trail’ (i.e. deliberate leaks by the police),’frankly we can’t be arsed’ or ‘total politicisation of the Metroploitan Police’.

This Sunday Herald article may be of interest. “The Livingston MP claimed £2157 for “rewiring” his London flat after producing an invoice from a company that does not exist. The document also contained a bogus VAT number, dodgy postcode and fictitious address.”

    Dear All

What I like about the Jim Devine case is the way he has changed his story three times regarding shelves.

1/ The shelfs were billed as being in his office.

2/ The shelfs are in his London flat.

3/ The shelfs are in a basement of a pub.

All of these explanations are bogus, complete bullshit.

Devine can’t even get his witnesses to back his story.

I also hear that his former Union, Unison has been saying that there are no jobs at the inn for him.

    He’s knackered!

I wonder if he will be struck off the nursing register as well as he previously was a nurse?

    Yours sincerely

Business Questions. Thursday 18 January 2007.

    City bonus levels.

    Jim Devine MP (Livingston, Labour)

“Will my right hon. Friend set aside time to debate the obscene bonuses paid to 4,000 staff who work in the City of London? The payments ranged from £1 million to £50 million, and this week it was reported that another individual received a payment of £58 million as a bonus. Most of that money, it is alleged, goes into offshore trusts, so not even the Treasury benefits from the payments. Those bonuses distort not only the housing market, but society, and surely something needs to be done.”

Jack Straw MP (Leader of the House of Commons)

“I understand my hon. Friend’s concern. I think that everybody in the House believes that people’s rewards should be proportionate to their effort and achievement, and where payments are very high, those making the awards have to be very clear that they are justified.”

Jim has taken guidance from none other than the leader of the House. He obviosly felt that his “bonus” was proportional to his “effort and achievement”.
